DESCRIPTION
The Foray-class Blockade Runner hails from the Old Republic, around 1000 BBY. This line of ships was manufactured by the Republic Fleet Systems for use of the Republic at the time in large numbers in order to patrol Republic space. At the time, the Foray-class was frequently seen working in concert with Hammerhead-class Frigates and Aurek class fighters. Back then, the Foray was considered to then as the CR90 Corvette is to the Galactic Civil War era.At the time, the Foray was a potent combatant for it size. Although it would be classed as a corvette today, it was considered a frigate. With it's two dual turbolaser cannons, the Foray could dish out damage with ships of similar class and it's laser cannons allowed it to engage fighters with some effectiveness. The speed was also good for it's time for a capital craft, the Foray could live up to it's title of blockade runner, being able to speed past blockades, and with it's rather large cargo capacity could transport essentials off world or bring much needed relief. The ship also has a rather large passenger capacity.
In comparison to the modern CR90, the Foray has a larger crew requirement. Although the ship class was good for it's time, it's time to shine is no longer as more modern corvettes have since surpassed the Foray.
A long tenured ship, but all things must come to an end. The Republic Fleet Systems ceased to exist centuries ago and the Foray was discontinued. But however, that didn't stop the old Blockade Runners from resurfacing and joining the fight. Even the Rebel Alliance managed to obtain at least one during their war with the Galactic Empire. There have been rare sightings among pirates or planetary defense forces.
