FWA removes PM role, Belasi to focus on GHO
Now former Prime Minister Belasi steps down as PM, and FWA Senate moves to abolish the role of PM altogether. Belasi to "focus on GHO" and "other scientific pursuits."
A few weeks ago, before the Sith attack on Kashyyyk, Belasi called the FWA Senate together to propose a merger with the NR. The vote to begin negotiations passed, albeit only by a small margin and the Senate remained divided even as Belasi met with the NR.
After the attack on Kashyyyk, the opinion of the Senate tipped against Belasi's attempts to centralize the FWA. The native Belascan made the decision to step down as PM, and soon after, the Senate convened and voted to remove the role of Prime Minister from the government altogether. According to the legislation formalizing the change, the FWA "...no longer has the need for a governmental head..." and that "...they will employ a Speaker of the Senate to facilitate discussions in future senates."
One senator stated he "...thought Belasi was well-intended..." but that her "...ambitions were incompatible with FWA ideals...." He added that he and his colleagues hope to see her "...remain in the political sphere."
When asked to comment, former PM Belasi said she would "be focusing on the GHO" and would likely "take a break from the political scene." She did not comment further, but did reiterate that it was her decision to step away from the role of PM.
Though further decentralization is in motion, some FWA planets still remain in favor of centralization open to merging with the NR.
