SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Biologist and lepidopterist: His heart and passion lie with his butterflies and moths and he's an excellent researcher.
- Form VI: Niman specialist: Garvenhal chose Niman for its ease to learn and, although he's capable in a fight, he'll be outclassed saber-wise by most Force-wielding duelists. He hopes to improve though
- Diplomat: His time on Cato Neimoidia has made him adept at navigating complex societies, caste systems, and dangerous political arenas
- Neimoidian Knowledge: Naturally, his time on the dark planet made him quite knowledgeable about it, the native species
- Militia Training: During his residency, he enrolled in basic training with the Nemoidian militia and knows the ins and outs of tank combat and military tactics.
- Hand To Hand Combat: During his time with the militia, he also picked up some basic hand-to-hand knowledge
- Linguist: His research has taken him to remote regions of the galaxy and he's picked up a few languages as a result including Basic, Huttese, Umbarese, Pak Pak, and Aqualish.
- Physical Fitness: His relatively large size and build help him compensate for his less-than-elite lightsaber skills.
- Lab Procedure: If Garvenhal is brought into a subpar lab, he'll have it sterile, functional and professional in a matter of hours.
PERSONALITY:
Garvenhal is a subtle man, who knows when to keep quiet and observe. It's what makes him a brilliant scientist and enabled him to survive the sometimes fraught political world of Cato Nemoidia. However, sometimes that trait can come across as cold or uncaring to those that don't know him well. A true specialist, Garvenhal likes finding the specific things he is good at and excelling in them. It's why he narrowed his focus to lepidoptology instead of becoming a more broad biologist in the Jedi Research Corps and why he chose to focus in Niman instead of blending Forms. Despite that, he is a courageous Jedi with a passion for protecting people (and the environment). He's also naturally curious, a trait that makes him a good scientist and also leads him to have a bit of an adventurous streak as he's always looking for new knowledge, new experiences, and new skills to pick up.
BIOGRAPHY:
Garvenhal, in many ways, had a typical Jedi upbringing. Discovered during an orphanage to be Force Sensitive, the Lutrillian was raised by the Order almost from birth and became a capable Jedi Padawan. However, unlike his peers, Garvenhal found himself dreaming not of epic lightsaber duels with the Sith but, rather, discovering some new species. He gravitated towards research and science and pursued that path under the guidance (and sometimes exasperation) of his Master Sheena Nimzo. He chose to specialize in the field of lepidoptology, finding fascination in the small moths and butterflies that made up the field.
Unfortunately, Nimzo was killed during the Sith invasion of Yavin not even a month after Garvenhal had earned Knighthood. Saddened, the Lutrillian Jedi elected to serve the first four years of his Knighthood under the Jedi Cultural Immersion Program, a fledgling system based on the program that existed in the days of the Old Republic. It was designed to expose Jedi to new cultures, to teach them new skills, and to open up the rest of the galaxy to the Jedi. Cato Nemoidia was chosen as his destination by the Council and Garvenhal found himself relishing the challenge of navigating the callous Nemoidians and their politically loaded culture and caste system. He learned much from his time there, especially during his residency in a biology lab, and now hopes to serve the Order in any way he can; as a scientist, as a warrior, or just a friendly ear.
