It's an excellent movie. It reads like it'd be a black comedy but it actually becomes a good political commentary, an intense chase-thriller, and sort of a poignant drama (especially the climax with final confrontation between Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall --the water gun bit alone has inspired plenty of other films.)
As for this? A lot depends on the acting and writing. Too much levity and it'll come off as tiresome comedic sociopathy. Too much drama and the commentary becomes less barbed amidst the pathos.
It was riddled with plot holes and it was a little too in your face for my tastes. The execution was okay, and the acting of the two main characters was great but everything else kind of falls short. It's like the movie Kick Ass meets Falling Down.
The ending was also pretty awful.
But it was still an okay ride, so it's definitely worth a watch I guess.
