Heh, they should read the ASWS then. They might explode.

Don't tempt me. They were a-holes to me, then when I left, they apparently just started being rude to everyone but, at most, two guys at a time. That's a group of about 5 people they had to patronize.

Interestingly enough, only one of them even comes around anymore.:CSly
I really honestly wonder what would happen if I took only a fraction of the folks I've met here onto Xfire. Hmm...

Probably more hell would break loose today than just earlier today, when I attempted to get the guys to just bloody well get outside of their tightly closed box (unfortunatly, apparently I am not a great lock picker).

Actually, I think Green Ranger had it earlier. If you study the dynamics of the stories, you'll find that the Original Trilogy was 'Space Opera', not Science Fiction. That is to say, it's character and story driven, not technolagy driven like the Prequel trilogy and every single EU novel that wasn't written by Timothy Zahn.

If you try to follow any story, especially ones set in a futuristic environment, to its logical conclusion you will end up with crap like FotJ. If he'd left the original movies alone, with Timothy Zahn's postscripts, we would have a whole different attitude towards Star Wars (and this thread would probably be about why George Lucas isn't touching it).

That's what happened in the Marvel Universe, that's what happened in the DC Multiverse, that's what happened to Star Trek and countless other franchises.

Not to ignore the rest of your post, but this is just flat out wrong. There are a LOT of EU books, comics, and sources that have great stories. A brief list, to prove my point-

The Han Solo Trilogy
Jedi Academy Trilogy
KOTOR (for you fans)
I, Jedi
NJO
X-Wing Series
Millennium Falcon
Republic, Rebellion, and Empire Comics

Zahn has some good books- maybe some of the best SW ones, but by no means were they they only good EU material.

Zahn is cannon. The vong were terrible, and after that got outrageously out of hand Force-wise.

I never said that they weren't great. I intensely enjoy most of that list. But I've read every single one of the ones you've just cited, and without exception they fall into the 'Science Fiction' catagory. If you switch styles in the middle of a franchise, you set yourself on an extremely slippery slope. There have been hundreds of Star Trek books written, and some of them were all right. Same goes with Marvel and DC Multiverse. But if you start playing around, there's no end to it. Where do you propose drawing the line?

By saying it's exactly like Starship Troopers, strangly horned person (or are they attennae?) Needless to say, I do notice things become more sci-fi than space opera, but getting people to actually want to do a space opera that they don't have complete control over seems like trying to convince SyFy channel to not make their own version of Being Human (it's never gonna work out, I tell ya. They're hiring the guy who played Starkiller to be Mitchell!).

Frankly, I liked the first trilogy by Zahn, and the Outbound Flight story. Alliegance, however (as I've stated before), was hell to read and generally I just couldn't care enough. And really, even though you say space opera, Mass Effect manages to both have a stronger sci-fi base, yet focuses on characters, so what is its definition? Sci-fi Opera? Space-fiction? Eh? EH? :CAbove
