Barnabus Hex Poppington was born into rich money, the son to wealthy corporation management and had the whole world handed to him on a Phrix platter. His reaction to such privilege and easy life wasn't too uncommon - he rebelled. Rebelled against his safety nets. Stayed out past his curfew. Started hanging out in questionable chat rooms. Dyed his hair a crazy colour his mother was SURE to hate. Generally doing anything he possibly could to piss his parents off. He never succeeded though. So he started to explore ways to piss other people off instead.

He first got interested in slicing when he was 17, after somebody in one of those shadey online chatrooms going by the name 'V1P3R' told him about it and sent him a link via the holonet that he assured was going to teach him everything he needed to know. When he clicked on it his computer completely froze. His screen turned red, pixel by pixel, and a message popped up on the screen. "Lesson Number 1: Don't click anything." He got a notification on his phone. His bank again had been emptied and all his profiles over everything had been hacked to broadcast to the world that he was a complete idiot. He didn't care about the money - it wasn't his money anyway. But the humiliation is what stuck with him.

His parents were, for the first time to his memory, furious. Apparently the slicer had almost cracked into their accounts too but fortunately they had tighter security than he could crack. This kind of power was crazy. Some guy, sitting in a room on some random planet, almost ruined their lives. It was awesome. What was even more awesome was that he got grounded for a whole month!

Learning his lesson well, Barnabus Hex Poppington started doing his own research into 'slicing'. He even found a few websites on the holonet that were deliberately designed for you to practice slicing. It turned out he was something of a prodigy too. After few months of practising on extremely low risk targets and sites he decided to take it to the next level and began trying to slice random computers in the huge apartment building he lived in the penthouse off. Stealing details that weren't that important, their apartment keypad numbers for example.

After 3 years, he was stealing much more than that. He'd started remotely hacking into CCTV, opening doors, stealing card details. And after a long, long time, finally managed to track this 'Viper' down. He'd learned more about him that he ever thought he could. Turns out Viper lived on Coruscant too and was just a kid. Learning he was tricked by a child all those years ago just pissed him off more. He remotely accessed Viper's computer while he slept and downloaded numerous illegal weapon schematics, card details and other illegally obtained information onto it's hardrive.

When Viper woke up and turned on his computer he inadvertently triggered a sleeping programme which told Viper that the Coruscant Security Force had just been sent the contents of his hardrive and were on their way. An option prompted him to click if there'd been a mistake. Viper clicked, unaware that clicking the message is actually what contacted the CSF and his computer froze, with each pixel slowly turning a vibrant indigo before a message popped up - a version of the same phishing technique he'd used on Barnabus Hex 3 years ago.

Lesson Number 1: Don't Click Anything.​

Viper's jaw dropped with realisation.
Red and blue lights began glowing through his windows
screeching sirens grew closer.

The message scrolled on to reveal a new, second message.

Lesson Number 2: Don't f**k with Hex.​

Since then he has found work with some of the lower five of the Five Syndicates, notably the Know0nes

Personality

TL;DR - Barnabus Hex Poppington is a total brat.

In the 'real' world, Barnabus Hex Poppington is an anti-social spoiled brat who is usually nose deep in his holopad, texting. He's rude, snotty, arrogant and dimissive. He has little time for social grace or manners, often interupting people or bluntly stating that he doesn't like them or rolling his eyes. The only people he answers to are people who are paying him or, reluctantly, his mum and dad.

In the 'holonet' world, his alter-ego Hex puts emphasis on the 'ego' part and it is similar to his real life identity but instead of being vicious and dismissive in his rudeness he typically acts sarcastic, smug and/or mocking. He can't resist any opportunity he gets to make somebody feel stupid or powerless. There's a vanity to his online persona too, having come up with his own 'logo' that appears on screens of devices that he has hacked.

Barnabus Hex Poppington might talk a big talk and act rude and arrogant but he himself is not really capable of backing it up in person. But his years of living in the holonet have made him forget that, unlike when he's online, people in real life are more than capable of reaching through the 'screen' and throttling him. If he fails at hacking something or doesn't get what he wanted Barnabus Hex Poppington has a bad habit of 'rage quitting' and going AWOL, behaviour that might get him in trouble if he was working as a team or if he promised somebody results.

He is extremely embarassed by his funny sounding real name and has gone out of his way to try and remove it from anywhere that it is recorded. He hates being called by his real name and will immediately become even more sour and hostile to people who repeatedly use it.

Skills

Slicing - Hex is a talented slicer, capable of slicing through even military grade encryption and security if given enough time. He specialises in remote operations, running his show from the safety of his bedroom in his parent's apartment, however he is willing to do the jobs that require him to do it 'in person' if there is ample rewards and protection promised. While he specialises in dismantling other people's cyber-protections and anti-malware software he is more than capable of writing codes and encryptions for his own, or other people's digital protection. A favourite money making technique of his is to show somehow how shoddy their defenses were and then offer to improve them for a fee.

Keyboard Warrior - Hex can search the holonet for schematics, information and blueprints he needs incredibly quickly - often prepping these things well in advance of actually running a job. He's also an excellent troll AND clocks in a typing speed of 230 WPM~

Genius Level Intellect - Despite being young Hex is an incredibly intelligent person with a fantastic memory and excellent capacity for learning. He remembers almost everything he's told, even incredibly complex numbers and passwords.
