Kaedan ran through the forest swiftly. He was excited; of course he was. There was some news that he would be meeting some people and starting a new journey of his life. He had heard tales of the Jedi and what they stood for. He, along with his parents, had also discovered that he was force sensitive. After many conversations, his parents had decided it was probably best that he be trained by people equipped for that. He was already a good shot and pretty skilled with a melee weapon thanks to the slight training he had received from his parents.

His mother being a former bounty hunter had tons of gear at her disposal and many skills to go with it. It was probably why she started training her son to use a blaster at 4 years old. Now two years later, he could hit many targets. With the discovery of him being force sensitive, both parents speculated that the force was also a tool that assisted him with his shooting. His physical training started with his father teaching him, using the military training he once learned to prepare his son. That eventually extended to both parents including melee weapon training.

Kaedan arrived at the house to see his parents speaking with people who were dressed in robes. These Jedi were ready to take him in to begin his Jedi training. That was the reason they were here. What the 6 year old Kaedan didn't know was that would be the last time he physically saw his parents for a while. He rushed off to grab a few things to put in the satchel his mother provided him with. With a holo-communicator packed as well, the boy left Rion and his parents behind and started his journey as a Jedi Initiate.

Kaedan woke up from seeing that memory. It was strange. He hadn't dreamt of the past like that before. Maybe it was because he and his master Ashen were set to go to Rion. It had been a month since they had began their journey as master and apprentice. The boy had made the request to go home to see his folks and Ashen agreed. He was beyond excited and now they were going. He boarded the Atlatl-class Starhopper and sat in the passenger seat. "Off to Rion we go."

Space Port || Rion

After the Starhopper arrived on the planet, Kaedan looked out of the ship at the arrival hangar. It looked just like the hangar he departed Rion save for some technological upgrades. The young padawan walked off the ship and stretched. They would have to go through customs and other checks before being able to go anywhere on the planet. He slowly walked out the hangar and to the area where they would have to go through customs. Luckily, they weren't traveling heavy so that in itself should make the process quicker. There weren't that many lines of people like one would find on a capital planet. The few people before the Jedi duo moved through the scanners and then was logged by the droid who was working.

When Kaedan got to the front, he took his lightsaber off and placed it in his satchel and walked through the scanners. Once he had been through, he pulled his satchel with the force towards him. He opened the satchel and the droid scanned the contents of it. "Welcome to Rion, we hope you enjoy your stay." Kaedan nodded and walked forward, waiting for his master to walk through and be scanned as well.

Rion. Ashen's never been there before but the place seemed to mean a lot to Kaedan. "Are you excited?" he asked the young padawan as their ship entered hyperspace. Ashen's starhopper itself wasn't anything impressive, never mind spacious but it served him well so far.

As the ship neared the spaceport, it emitted a distinct buzzing sound before touching down inside one of the hangars with a loud clatter. Ashen watched as Kaedan rose from his seat and proceeded to leave the ship. He would follow the padawan shortly after deactivating and securing the starhopper's systems.

Ashen dreaded the prospect of going through customs once again. Past encounters with the guards had consistently resulted in unpleasant experiences; they always seemed to find some arbitrary fault with him. As they neared the scanner, Ashen eyed it warily before surrendering his lightsaber to the droid for inspection. Though he felt uneasy about this, he had no alternative but to comply and follow Kaedan through the scanner. Thankfully, there were no alarms triggered, and the droid showed no sign of concern regarding his lightsaber either.

"Not a fan of spaceports," Ashen murmured to Kaedan, avoiding direct eye contact. "Let's go," he smiled, eager to get out of the place. Since he wasn't sure of the exact location they were headed, nor was he familiar with the planet, he'd let the padawan take the lead.

Kaedan and Ashen were inside the star hopper which was about to jump to hyperspace. "Yes. Very much so. Haven't been there since I was six years old. I wonder how much has changed. Since we're heading to my home planet, I will bring you up to speed on social norms there." And so, they made the jump.

Once they were on Rion, Kaedan guided Ashen through the spaceport. If he could simply run towards their destination, he would but it was best not to. Once they both were scanned, the droid allowed them to be on their way. As they walked, his master spoke to him, informing him about his dislike of spaceports. "I'm guessing it usually doesn't be this easy most of the time." He continued to walk as they finally exited the ports and stepped out into the world. The planet was filled with beautiful trees around. It was more nature than other industrial planets. Kaedan took in a deep breath, enjoying the clean air of his home.

The boy looked around for a taxi speeder, seeing one nearby. "Let's get a ride. It would be much quicker." He practically rocketed towards the taxi and hopped in. The droid that drove the taxi turned its head and greeted them, asking where they were headed. The padawan gave the location and paid credits so that they could take the trip. After a 10 minute trip, they had arrived at their destination.

Kaedan disembarked the taxi and looked at his home. It was much different from how he remembered it. He stood in awe as he took a moment to admire the place. "This is where I live." He couldn't believe that he was there again. He smiled as he took a few steps towards the house. His eyes landed on the forest that was on the eastern side of the house. He remembered all the times he played in it and even used it to have practice exercises. When he got to the door, he buzzed the door.

The door opened and a woman stood before the two. She immediately smiled and stepped out, embracing the boy. "Kaedan! I missed you so much." She released the boy and looked up at Ashen. "Master Jedi, it's nice to meet you. Come on inside." She guided the two inside and allowed them to get comfortable. "I am Lyra, Kaedan's mother. I take it that you are his master, Ashen."

Ashen couldn't help but smile as he watched the padawan sprint towards the taxi with excitement. It warmed his heart to see Kaedan so eager to return home. The brief taxi ride was also rather pleasant, with the serene beauty of the trees and buildings passing by. Although he didn't have much opportunity to admire the scenery, they arrived at Kaedan's parents' house in no time. Ashen thanked the droid driver for the ride before stepping out of the taxi and joining the padawan by his side.

"It's a nice place, let's go say hello."

Kaedan was already walking towards the house before Ashen could add anything else and followed the boy to the door. It was only a few moments before a woman opened the door, introducing herself as Kaedan's mother.

"I am yes, it's lovely to meet you too," he smiled as Lyra led them inside, before looking over at Kaedan with an affectionate smile. Ashen entered without saying much more for the time being, giving Kaedan and Lyra a chance to reconnect after such a long time.

After introducing herself as Kaedan's mother, Lyra assumed that the man with her son was his master, Ashen. When he confirmed such, she nodded. "Welcome to my home. Kaedan has spoken a lot about you. I am glad that you have taken up his training. Hopefully he's not too much of a handful." She joked, laughing right after. "Anyway, can I get you anything to drink?"

If Ashen agreed, she went and got him something to drink; if not, she stayed put. She turned her attention on Kaedan again, looking at the boy he grew into. She felt a bit guilty, having missed 9 years of him growing but it couldn't be helped. She knew what duty meant and just like her husband, Kaedan had a duty to the institution of the order he was inducted into. This also meant that Kaedan would be looked after well and not have to worry about the fear of hurting them with the force without knowing how to control it. The bright side of it was that they got to speak over the holo often so that was an upside.

"Your father should be home soon. I'm sure he will be surprised to see you." She spoke affectionately. "Normally, I wouldn't wait for you to regale me with the latest adventure but I know you probably will have to tell the story again once your father returned so we can wait on that."

Kaedan nodded and smiled. "That's fair. In the meantime, I think Master Ashen and I can get some training in and you let me know when dad returns." The young padawan stood up and looked over to his master. "I'll show you the forest area where I used to run around in. It's also a good place to train. Are you coming?"

"No thank you," Ashen declined Lyra's offer with a soft smile. "Calling him a handful would be an understatement," he continued with her joke, slightly nudging Kaedan in the process. Of course, he didn't actually mean it, but he couldn't pass up an opportunity to tease the young padawan to his mother.

As Kaedan offered to go out into the forest to train, Ashen considered the idea briefly before nodding in approval. "If you'd like to, then sure." He had half anticipated Kaedan to prefer staying with his mother a little longer, especially considering they'd only just arrived. However, it was not at all surprising to once again witness Kaedan's unwavering commitment to his training.

Ashen glanced at Lyra, giving her a faint smile and a quick nod, before turning to follow Kaedan into the woods. During their walk, Ashen pondered about their training session for the day. He planned to provide Kaedan with a choice, although he hadn't fully decided on the specifics yet, aside from the evident options: "Force or saber?" he inquired without elaborating any further.

Offered something to drink, Ashen declined the offer. Lyra jokingly said that she hoped Kaedan wasn't a handful which Ashen added to the joke, stating that it would be an understatement to call him that. The young padawan folded his arms. "Hey! I'm sitting right here." He chuckled. "Well, I admit I could be at times. That's part of the gig though, master." After everyone had their fair share of laughter, Lyra smiled and turned her attention to her son before telling him that his father would be back soon. Knowing that there would be time to be with his folks later, he decided it would be the perfect time to get some training in which his master accepted.

Kaedan walked out to the forest with Ashen, the wind grazed their skins. When they got to the spot, Ashen asked his padawan if he wanted to train in the force or in saber combat. Over the past month, they had great training sessions with both arts. What they hadn't done yet was combine both of them. "How about both this time? I think I am ready to handle that." He said with a confidence that he carried all the time. It wasn't that he was zealous or arrogant but very sure of himself on where his level was at. What added to that was his ability to grasp concepts and apply them quickly.

Ashen walked forward with a grin on his face as Kaedan made his choice. Truthfully, he had nothing planned and was purely running on improvisation. He took hold of his lightsaber and spun a switch on the pummel, setting it into training mode before igniting the saber and turning around; the hilt held waist high, the blade pointed up and slightly forward. "What is a lightsaber?" He asked, curious about what answer the padawan would give.

After Kaedan answered the question, Ashen swung horizontally from the padawan's right without warning to test the boy's reflexes.

Now that the choice was made, Ashen took his lightsaber and activated it. He then asked the padawan what is a lightsaber at the same time the boy took the lightsaber off his waist and activated it, activating training mode. "A lightsaber is an extension of the wielder, it's a tool for self defense, it's a sacred thing to us Jedi and should be treated with the upmost respect." He held his lightsaber with his dominant hand, waiting for what was to come.

Ashen brought his blade up in response, parrying the attack. With their sabers locked, Kaedan held his hand up and tried to force push his master. He wasn't as prominent with force attacks as he was with a lightsaber but he was going to do his best. He did his best but his attempt wasn't too good at it one bit. (Rolled a 6 for force push attempt)

"Well yes. That's the textbook answer." Ashen said as he swung his saber at the padawan.

Creativity was at the core of the knight's combat philosophy. It was the sole 'strategy' he relied on during a fight; adapting to whatever his opponent threw at him. A skill he was intent on teaching Kaedan, or at the very least showing it to him. Most importantly though, it was a skill that utilised both blade work and the force for the best result.

Despite not expecting it, Ashen shrugged off his padawan's attempted force push. Regardless, however, he was impressed by the boy's initiative. It was exactly the thing he wanted to teach him. "Nice one!" Kaedan didn't need to succeed at whatever he was trying to do just yet. What mattered to Ashen was that he tried and showed understanding.

"What about offence?" He asked Kaedan in regard to his previous question. "Is it only for self-defence?" Ashen pushed his saber forward against Kaedan's, as a sort of mini-force push in an attempt to break the lock. Should it prove successful, he would move to execute a simple overhead strike against the padawan.
