How far can humor go?

Jokes can just be made out of anything, but should some be made at all? Granted, some use the "It's been long enough" or "It was X years ago, time to let go" or something related. To me, and I am sure others, some things won't be funny like some would find it.

The question, how far... or should I say low can jokes get without making yourself seem like an absolute horrible person, if you care about such things?

Joke about anything, joke about everything, as long as there's no actual verbal abuse being tossed around. Allowing oneself to be offended by something so insignificant as humor is really very immature and not impressive in the least.

I sometimes feel like a hypocrite. I do say things like "if everything can't be funny, then nothing can be", when it comes to if a topic can be made fun of. Yet, I find a lot of humor that's on television and the internet to be mean spirited beyond belief. I try to do my best not to rain on someone else's parade, but I can't help but feel like vulgarity has become the default for someone trying to be funny.

I suppose I try to look at the intent of the humor. Being teased is something I can deal with easily, especially when I don't detect any animosity. Watching someone rip another human being to pieces over a vendetta and trying to disguise it as humor is where I feel like the line is drawn for me. Trust me, I've seen the difference, regardless of the topic.

I do contribute to the problem, I suppose. When someone makes a joke that I'm actually offended by, I say nothing. I just feel like if I do complain, that I am being prudish.

Anything. Humor is humor is humor.

So say someone very, very close and dear to you died, and someone you personaly knew made a very distasteful joke about them and the way they died, it's all good?

Obvs' has never had this done to him.

Actually have. And that's not bringing in stuff like Irish wakes. There's something IMHO life-affirming and reassuring about humor. And all of the people that I know tend to have pretty a pretty ribald sense of humor.

What, that people can look beyond personal tragedies and still be able to joke about it? Even though humor, in the end, doesn't mean shit besides the fact that, if it's funny, it's funny, if it's not funny, it's not funny?

I'm starting to see a pattern here with some individuals.

Are you kidding? I was the one cracking the joke.
