Ok. Good news is I have a audition at Berklee in Boston ( A really really really really really good music school) on august the 15th. Bad news? I just found out, my electric guitar is out of commission and the piece I had picked to practice I haven't played in....months. This is however, the last audition for the spring semesters which start in January. There are other auditions but not until December will they come to Atlanta

I am really nervous about this. Should I go up there, pay out of the pocket for this? I really don't think I am ready for this audition, its pretty major. I would have to buy the plane ticket to go up to Boston, and haul my electric up there too.......

Any suggestions? I'm pretty torn about this

If I were you (assuming you serious about attending Berklee) I would borrow, or rent a guitar and practice my ass off. Then I would go and audition.

What I am saying is that you should go. You may not have the opportunity again.

You should do it- Its a great opportunity and you should at least try, it could change your life if you really want it.

Nothing is free, you gotta take a chance if you want to reap the rewards!

Do it, and don't regret it. Try your best, because you don't want to end up in life in 20 years wondering. "What if?" Go for it anyway possible

The ear training part seems the most difficult.

Oh it is, I have a horrible ear. I'll just have to make do with that. I've taken courses in ear training before so I think I can wing it.

Well, you shouldn't pick a song that's too difficult then. Like they said, pick something that you can "put you forward." You don't want to screw up the song infront of them and then doing horribly in the ear training part. How good are you anyway?

I don't think he'll be taken seriously if he just plays three different chords over and over again.

Honestly. You can learn any piece of music in a month. If you're lazy and practice once a week then no, you can't. But once a day for an hour, you'll learn it.

I had to do an audition to get into Winthrop. Although the school is more classically geared, I did an all state piece that showed off all of the points of what I play. It showed the high end, some on the low end, my knowledge of the key. Including skill and style.

You need to show the judge(s) that you have the skills of a guitarist. Flexibility, the ability to play in the style. 'Tone', really I'm not big on guitar but a good guitarist has a good sound, it's not just his instrument. You need to show these things in the solo.

Good luck.

I agree completely, I also have to audition for the upcoming semester for Appalachian State University's music program. I think I am doing an original piece. If not that I am at least doing my own variant of one of my favorite songs. I suggest the same. Just pick a song you like if you want, and create your own variation, show them YOUR skill. Also, Good Luck!
