So it's just a flimsy gimmick then, rather than anything practical.

Yeah, as an admin I won't support this idea.

However, it is up to the faction leadership.

Can somebody explain to me how its a flimsy gimmick? I have put a lot of thought into this and how the combat style would be, so I don't understand how it's flimsy

Maybe you'll understand if you try it in a non-canon duel. Find someone who'll fight you.

love how the trailer shows the republic soldiers dressed in katarn style armor. How is this going to work since Katarn armor didn't show up for a while? Also two blades work better than three. Ask her, she'll know :D

So, he would be trying to make the opponent confused by giving this 'Optical Illusion'?

That is a good point, but I guess it really isn't up to us to judge.

The way I think about it is to use trakata to switch hold of the blade. Moving from a regularly held blade to the reverse style of Unleashed (or whats her face from clone wars) without spinning the pommel.

You do know wrist strength is even weaker for a reverse grip to attempt blocking a blow from a two-handed strike? Imaging holding a bat reverse grip, and someone smacks you with their bat with two hands. Chances are, your bats going to fling back and smack you. Whereas if you just moved your arm down/back and kept it regular grip, that wouldn't have been as much of as issue. And, while in canon they might like to defy physics for cool factor, I doubt people would in a duel that's life or death for their character.

That said, I won't oppose you on this anymore. I just don't see how it would be any more effective than regular dual wielding.

Katarn is actually Mark II clone trooper armor, which is even more ludicrous because Republic troopers in SWTOR aren't even clones. It's even MORE ridiculous because the stupid Jedi looks like she's casting wizard spells and not using the Force. I never saw blue shit during Force Pushes in the movies, and Lucas' had a hardon for over-the-top CGI.

I just want to say I am aware of the grip difference, your assuming my character would chance that and use a reverse grip to block it... There are strengths and weaknesses that I have already thought about. Thanks for the input either way.

I also think I am done with this idea, thanks for the input all this idea will not be made into a character... if a GM could close this that would be great thanks all.

The surprise factor will be nil. Unless you can somehow hide the overly large hilt of the double bladed lightsaber, you're not going to catch any jedi by surprise. Unless, they're horribly unobservant.

Jedi: "Hey, why do you have what looks like a double bladed lightsaber hilt in your hands when you're only using one blade?"

You: "...uh, it's not double bladed, I like big hilts and I can not lie."

Jedi:"..Riiiiiight."

I hope I wasn't overly offensive. I just think there's a fundamental difference between the way we imagine things in our head, the way they play out in roleplay, and even then the way they play out in real life. I s'pose it's my jaded side that came out. It's sort of like when people have 500 planes they can use to defend a RP nation the size of New York, and they launch them all at once. Do you know how much havoc that causes on the basic FoF systems modern planes have, how much friendly fire you're going to suffer, and how difficult it is to keep the runway clear of damaged planes, as well as how difficult it would be for the planes to communicate and coordinate with each other taking into account jamming limited radar bands. But more often than not people only consider the way things work when they work right, and not the way they work when shit hits the fan.

I wasn't trying to convince Pyronide his idea was absolutely terrible, in truth using two doublebladed lightsabers as regular lightsabers most of the time isn't such a bad idea. The force-controlled double-bladed lightsaber wasn't a good idea though. I just want him to consider not only what situations he can use his move, but what counters his opponent can do, and whether or not it's really worth it.

if a GM could close this that would be great thanks all.

The thread'll be closed the moment people stop posting valid opinions, concerns, and insight. With few exceptions, we don't close threads here until a discussion has run its course.

I know its not on topic but the "reason", as the SWTOR developers say, the armor looks the same is that the Clone Troopers were actually copying the armor from back then, which is a really lame excuse I think. Also a few games use the blue effects for the force simply because its a game. It doesn't really bother me because I just see it as an effect added for gameplay enjoyment.

I s'pose, though I always preferred the fact that they *didn't* look like magic spells.

That said, I do think this thread has indeed run out of brain matter on this topic; not that it should be closed, though, could always lead to future discussions.

You might want to read this:
Wookieepidia said:
Shado Vao carried a blue-bladed lightsaber with a hilt that resembled a regular lightsaber, if only slightly longer. By all outward appearances, there were no indications that a second blade could be ignited, turning the weapon into a dual-bladed lightsaber. Shado often did not ignite this second blade right away when engaging an enemy, either due to his prowess with a single blade, or for the element of surprise. Due to the notable length difference of the lightsaber hilt when both blades were active, it is possible that Shado's lightsaber hilt extended when using the second blade.
