He held still during her time of importance, making sure he gave off a vibe of understanding just as she was making sure he understood the importance in value. When he felt it necessary, he nodded to confirm all that she had said. Her words would indeed repeat in his head many times to come.

And then came a more... technical question. Such was Joss' specialty, as he had spent much time in literature; and in this setting, he felt more obligated to give what answer he knew to be true as he saw it.

"The Force is an energy created by and surrounding all living things."

Simply putting it, Joss sounded like a computer regurgitating a straight answer; not over-excited to deliver it, but ready as if rehearsed. It lacked a personal touch but also gave hint to Joss' eagerness to separate himself from his raw and true person deep down. He was clearly holding back a more intuitive reply, almost cutting himself off before expounding upon his answer.

His heart thumped within his chest, rupturing an echo out along his nervous system to his ears. A breeze glided across the windows and the rays of suns shifted like providence. Joss took a deep breath, covering the complete sentences of thought running around in circles about the reaches of his mind - all tangled into a bottled up over-stimulation of eye movement.

Anastasia nodded and smiled as she closed her eyes in amusement. It was rare to find a Jedi so willing to see things so simply and plain. In fact, it was almost refreshing. She knew full well that Joss was aware there was more to the Force than omnipresence and its connection to life, but it was still vital that she explain it in full to him nonetheless.

"That's certainly a rudimentary way to put it, but it is nonetheless true. After all, the Force is many things. Ubiquitous, binding, and omnipotent - even if those who wield it are not. Although it itself is metaphysical, the Force creates life, and in turn, life creates the Force. It is a symbiotic relationship, and even we who can touch the Force can only grasp a fraction of its nature."

Anastasia's eyes drifted away as she thought for a moment, then turned her sights back to Joss.

"In fact, the nature of the Force is something even we Jedi do not unitedly agree on."

Anastasia paused for a moment as she slightly embarrasedly closed her eyes shut, and realized that her statement could have been prone to misinterpretation. She by no means meant to relay that some Jedi do not believe in following the Light Side, but meant debate on trivial matters of the Force. She could not help but chuckle to herself quietly.

"You'll have to excuse your master, Joss. I must still be tired from my earlier meditations. Indeed, in doctrinal creeds yes, the Jedi are whole - there is no doubt in that. But it is on sundry philosophies that some may see differently. For example, some Jedi see the Force as an element of the universe, much like gravity. Others believe that the Force is a sentient entity, intelligent, much like one would call a god."

Anastasia paused for a moment and sat upright again, realizing she was leaning in as she talked.

"In time, you will come to hear different viewpoints... perhaps even adopt some, as many other Jedi have."

At that, Anastasia saw the oppertunity to move onward and see how deeply Joss studied the Force in his education.

"While we are on the subject, it is known that the Jedi adhere to two aspects of the Force above all others. Granted, there are many philosophies, but above the rest are only two that are widely accepted by the Jedi, in many cases... light and dark alike. Are you aware of them?"

Joss was intent on finding meaning in his Master's words, and connecting it to his evolving youth. While he tried not to show it, he enjoyed learning; rather he held back the most opportune moments in learning for fear of showing great growth and drawing attention.

In light of recent events, Joss found himself curious of the meaning behind an omnipotent - almost godlike presence to the Force, unable to deny the pulling towards certain events and moments in his life. Though, his refusal to accept a larger fate in the big picture leads him to hold onto the simple and the vague; hoping, if only, to push away at arms distance from that which called to him.

Looking up, in notice of his Master's moment in pause, Joss only felt the desire to help; overtaking all other emotions, as Joss himself had trailed off in reflecting thought. He was indeed processing every word, and maybe taking it more seriously than most; in the sense of a weighted choice to carry around upon his back. He almost felt that choosing a belief, any belief but this one at the forefront, meant taking and being forced to head down that road and what it hold for its travelers.

Joss sat there still, relaxing back into his seat; though not having moved much during this entire explanation, much was racing through this one's head. So little went on physically, though so much was that polar opposite internally booming in galactic proportions as if creation itself was debating its own reasons for existing.

Joss so barely nodded and smiled, his pupils wide and lips pursed. She was moving on.

Intensely coming to focus, his pupils shrunk and he gulped into a stammer.

"T-The uh, the light and dark? I mean, I am aware of them. Yes."

Joss cleared his throat, that last possibly being interpreted many different ways; especially for this one, as Joss had trouble breaking his long silences into speaking.

"The light side is aligned with positive emotions, and the dark side is aligned with negative emotions."

Again, Joss almost went monotone like a computer in his regurgitated explanation.

"The Light Side and the Dark Side..." Anastasia said, almost under her breath as she looked upward.

"I suppose you are correct, actually. Many in the galaxy, Jedi and non-Jedi, see the Light Side and the Dark Side of the Force as moral compasses. Akin to a virtuous or noble confidence and endeavor. In short, it decides how we determine right from wrong, and our way of life."

Anastasia felt the need to clarify her words further for Joss. It was a given that he wouldn't inherently know everything she meant to relay to him. But in the current case, even being correct in technicality, was not correct in drawing the distinction between secular philosophies and moral philosophies.

"But in a sense, these are also two aspects of the Force, so in a way, you are indeed correct. What I was referring to were concepts of the Force that give specific focus - not to the ethics - but to the views of the Force itself."

Anastasia wanted to give Joss a second chance, since she wasn't specific enough beforehand, to see if he was aware of them. If not, it was a simple matter of giving him a brief overview of them.
