Kain al'Thor
My grandfather always said that life was a journey, all you had to do was find your path and start putting one foot in front of the other. Ever since I could remember I have struggled to find my path. My grandfather prepared the foundations for my training as a Jedi, back when we lived among the Aing-Tii, but even then the teachings and beliefs of the Aing-Tii monks left me confused and unsure about what the Force really was. When I reached Tython I thought that I would be able to find the answers that I was searching for, and I did find some of the answers, but not all of them. One question still remained unanswered, a itch that just wouldn't go away. What was the Force?

My expeditions into the Archives lead me to many possible answers, uncountable views about the Force, numerous different interpretations of what the Force was. The Potentium, the Living Force, the Unifying Force, the principles of Ashla and Bogan, the Living Force, within the ranks of the Jedi alone there was no single belief about the Force. Outside the Order there was even more interesting material, the Fallanassi devotion to the White Current, the Aing-Tii reverence of the Force as a gift from their gods. The more I read the more I started to come up with my own interpretation of the Force, founded in the Jedi beliefs but an amalgamation of the various beliefs. But just when I thought I had started find my own way with the Force everything went wrong. The Alliance fell, Jedi retreated to fight another day and Coruscant was run over by the Sith, completely changed at the hands of their Empress. I saw many Jedi die that day, my father among them, but I managed to get off planet before it fell. A group of Jedi led by Jedi Master Larik Novan lead me to Naboo, but there I fled the group, unsure of my future with the Jedi, unsure if it was even the path for me. I survived on Naboo for a time, ultimately making my way off planet, skipping from planet to planet until I finally ended up on Taris.

I lived in the Lower City for almost two years, disillusioned with the Jedi way, unsure of what the future had in store for me; picking pockets, stealing food, barely surviving. I made friends among the lower fringes of Taris’ population, my talents with the Force serving me well as I temporarily took up a life of crime. Those two years taught me more about the realities of life than all the books I had read till then. I saw a young boy steal and fight to get some credits and use it all to feed his young sister, was he a bad person or just looking out for those he loved? I saw good men forced to commit horrendous crimes to survive, they weren't evil, or corrupt, they were simply victims of circumstances. I realized that life was not simple black and white, life was too complex to describe with something like that. Through those observations of life around me I started to gain a better understanding of the Force. I realized that though they were forced to live this life because of a lack of options, I myself had a choice.

I managed to steal a freighter and headed out to the one place I hoped I could find some answers, back to the Embrace. The Aing-Tii welcomed me back with open arms, especially after I told them I was willing to help them sort through the artifacts in the Embrace once more. They had much more than just relics in there, there were rare, millennia old manuscripts, texts that had most probably not been read by anyone for thousands of years, and even a few holocrons. It was there that I first came upon the teachings of the Je'daii Order. Their philosophy immediately interested me, unique yet echoing a lot that I had read in the archives. They sought balance, moderation between light and dark, between Bogan and Ashla. That approach worked for them, at least until the Force Wars, which lead to the splintering of the Je'daii and the birth of the Jedi Order.

I stayed among the Aing-Tii for a long time after having gone through everything I could find about the Force. I simply meditated, and slowly everything I had read till then, pieces of a giant jigsaw that I had been trying to put together for as long as I remember, finally started to fall into place. I came to the conclusion that it was not what the Force was, or what its true nature was that made a difference, but how you chose to use it that made the difference. Life was balance, filled with both light and dark, but those used the Force had already forsaken that balance. History was full of examples of the corrupting nature of the Dark side, but the Light too wasn't without its corruption. That was where the Je'daii had been wrong. Balance was life, but being Jedi meant putting aside that balance, sacrificing it for the greater good. It was about moderation, using the Force only when needed, using it only when he felt the Force itself whispering in his ear to do so. My teachers had taught me to be a good man, an honorable man, taught me to be able to distinguish right from wrong, good from bad. Living by those ideals, using the Force by those ideals, that was what it meant to be a Jedi. I left the Aing-Tii soon after, if not with a better understanding of the Force then at least with a better understanding of myself and what it meant to be a Jedi. I sought out other Jedi, though in the end it was they who found me, taking me back to the Light of the Force where I resumed my training. I am a Knight now, ready to face the Galaxy, ready to face the Sith, ready to face whatever the Force had planned out for me.

SKILLS
Kain's biggest strengths are his brains and resourcefulness. Exceptionally intelligent and curious, he has picked up myriad skills, many of which would seem to be odd for a Jedi to possess. The years he spent in the Taris Lower City have taught him how to survive in almost any situation. Not only did he learn how to fend for himself in a highly dangerous environment, he ended up becoming exceedingly self-sufficient. He learnt how to pick pockets, slip into buildings and make himself invisible when the need so arose. Interacting with thieves, smugglers and other criminals has given him a distinct advantage compared to other Jedi as he can talk to such beings as one of their own and to a degree earn their trust, a skill that could turn out to invaluable in the coming times. He is an intuitive and highly skilled mechanic, a more than capable pilot and a fairly good slicer. He is also reasonably good with weapons and, with the Force to guide his hand, a very good shot.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
As a child he was physically weak, but a training regimen and a specialized diet set up by Jedi Master Juno Armstrong was meant to help him build up his strength. The two years spent in the Taris Lower City, barely managing to lead a hand to mouth existence, limited any benefits he might have received because of her tutelage, but the time spent since his return to the Aing-Tii allowed him to follow her regimen more strictly and reap the benefits. His body is in peak physical condition, possessing great agility, quick reflexes and tremendous speed. He is extremely agile and quick on his feet, possessing tremendous speed, and his movements in battle are fluid and graceful. While on Taris, though his preference was to escape fights whenever possible, more often than not he found himself in a situation where he had to fight to survive. As a result he is a more than capable brawler and can hold his own in a fight, even without using the Force.
FORCE ABILITIES
Coming from a line of Jedi Masters, Kain possesses a very deep connection to the Force. He has received training in the Force since a very young age, but because he received his initial training at the hands of the Aing-Tii Monks his approach and usage are very different from what you would expect from a Jedi. While living in the Tarus Lower City Kain had to spend a lot of time running away from one threat or another. This acted as an unconventional training that greatly increased his skills with the arts of movement that he had started learning as a padawan and later training has only sharpened those skills. Further training with other Jedi has allowed him to become highly skilled with using the Force to enhance his own physical abilities, be it strength, speed, agility, or endurance. But primarily being a Force user he has also explored the mental aspects of Force usage, in some ways following the path of a Jedi Consular, and as such has honed his abilities with the Force to a great degree. He has also sought out training in Force healing and is a capable practitioner of the art.
LIGHTSABER FORMS
Wielding a simple green lightsaber, as was often common with Consulars of old, Kain has not ignored his training with the blade, opting to follow the path of past Consulars such as Nomi Sunrider and Kit Fisto who were lightsaber duelists of renown despite being Jedi Consulars. Kain is a skilled practitioner of Makashi, the form considered by some to be the the ultimate refinement of lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat. Makashi relies on the usage of swift, elegant, powerful and accurate techniques, while using as little energy as possible. Kain can execute offensive and defensive moves with extreme precision and minimal effort, thereby tiring out his opponent. Having been suggested the form in order to compensate for his weakness as a youth, Kain relies on timing, accuracy, and skill, rather than brute strength, using jabs, parries and light cuts rather than slashes, blocks and chops.

PRE TIME-SKIP BIOGRAPHY
Little is known of Kain's mother, for the first that anyone saw or heard of him was when his father, Jedi Master Luthair al'Thor, arrived on his family estates on Eriadu with a new born child in his arms. Kain was raised by servants and relatives until he was three years old. At this time his grandfather, Rees al'Thor, left for the Aing-Tii homeworld and took young Kain with him.

Kain was raised as much by his grandfather as by some of the younger Aing-Tii monks, who were more than willing to do so in exchange for Rees helping them organize and better understand the numerous artifacts they had stored within the Embrace. As the years passed on Kain started helping his grandfather to study and catalog the numerous contents of the Embrace. During this time he had little if any contact with his father, with the two of them exchanging messages regularly but never actually meeting due to the secretive nature of the Aing-Tii and the difficulty in finding their world.

Kain learned a lot in those years, not only from his grandfather, but from the monks and the many manuscripts that were stored within the Embrace. He would also spend a great deal of time helping Rees work on maintaining his ship. The Aing-Tii monks also taught Kain of the Force, teaching him their culture, their beliefs and ways and the basics of some of their techniques. By the time he was ten, his grandfather came to the conclusion that he was ready to become a padawan. Sending a message to Luthair to pick up the young boy, he packed up and left, letting him know that his work there was done and that he would have to continue his work on his own. Instructing him to wait for his father, the Jedi Master left, and it would be almost a year before Luthair would finally be able to arrive on the hidden planet to take him home.

Kain was ultimately brought into the Jedi fold by two of his father's old pupils, Jedi Master Juno Armstrong and Jedi Knight Moridin Zerga. His training began aboard the Light Force, initially in the form of a smattering of classes under Master Armstrong and other teachers and finally under the formal tutelage of Kiro Haas. Under her careful eye he trained, he learned and he grew, both mentally and physically.

Indeed, they're similar enough to gel really well once they get over their initial awkward shyness. :D

Not to be mean or throw a spanner in the works, but isn't Fold Space against the rules? Teleportation and all that.

No biggie, the Aing-Tii philosophy is more important for him, the ability was just a cool bonus I found along the way. :P And yes, he does need a haircut.

Let the Dragon ride again on the Winds of Time...

Couldn't help myself xD good profile though! Maybe Cal-doran and Kain could meet sometime (: considering they are the same age, I think they'd get along quite well (:

Been avoiding it for a long time, but finally updated for the time-skip. Also played around with the formatting a little.
