A new comic series called Star Wars: Kanan has been announced. The first arc, "The Last Padawan," will be written by Greg Weisman. The story shows Kanan Jarrus, who was then known as Caleb Dume, train as a Jedi under Depa Billaba and then escape Order 66.

Seems pretty interesting, though one thing is currently perturbing me. How do you pronounce Kanan? Ka-non? Canon? Kane-an?

Didn't Deepa turn to the darkside or something in old canon? XD `This sounds awesome though. Cant wait.

In old, EU canon, yeah. In official canon stories, she was only in Episode I and Episode II before they decided to make her Kanan's master.

Fun fact. In the storyboard reel episodes of TCW that were released on SW.com recently, there's a Jedi Master with a name that I think is spelled Tu Anh. There's concept art in the Crystal Crisis on Utapau page on SW.com that shows concept art for Depa Billaba. I'm pretty sure, though this is speculation, that Tu Anh was supposed to be Depa Billaba (they look a lot a like) but they changed it after making her Kanan's master.

I'm already torn over Rebels, I always give a show a couple of episodes before deciding if I'm going to pass on it. Given the track record this far, and my history with the EU, I can't say this interests me at all. It's a little too much prequel in my Star Wars I guess.

Did my research on Wookiepeedia and now Deepa fascinates me. ^_^ Can't wait. :D

And... don't they kinda have to have a little prequel in there to tell the stories of the characters? This IS the inbetween after all. ^_^

Kaeb's not saying that a prequel story of a person who existed during the prequels shouldn't be prequely. Just that, because he doesn't really like anything about the prequels (including the design, which will of course influence this comic), he's not interested in the comic.

Yeah, it's not just that it involves prequel elements, it's that I don't really like much of any prequel elements. It's like they're an entire franchise onto themselves that I just don't have any interest in. When I say something is too prequely, it's essentially me saying that something is too similar to bad elements that are a result of or simply inherent to those movies.

Hopefully this comic won't deal with that too much. Sounds like they'll show Kanan's training, but once Order 66 happens, he'll probably go into the more grungy parts of the galaxy and it'll start finding an OT look.

Even reading the title 'Order 66' makes me feel like I'm killing brain cells as a result.

Still the dumbest, ill-fitting name for anything ever.

I hope in things like this, Rebels and the new movies, it's a series of words that is just never used.

'Fall of the Jedi' or 'Jedi Purge' work just fine.

No one has said the words Order 66 because no one has heard the words Order 66. That's something that the Sith knew. Not even the Jedi knew it.
