Voice Actor: Michael J Fox Sample (0:30-1:22)
Name: Kayin Tendaji
Faction: Jedi Order
Rank: Padawan Learner
Species: Cathar (Juhani subspecies)
Age: 19 years
Gender: Male
Description:
Kayin is a young male Cathar, of the Juhani subspecies. He stands five foot ten inches tall weighing 160 pounds. His body is covered in thin caramel colored fur lying flat against his skin, and he has a developing mane of slightly darker fur around his neck and scalp. However this is kept well trimmed, and is more noticeable by it's change in color than the change in hair length. The exception is his long Padawan's braid that hangs to the middle of his chest when tucked over his shoulder.
Clothing and equipment:
Kayin wears the simple tunic of a Jedi Padawan, and possesses a rebreather, grappling hook, glow-rod, and portable medkit, among other equipment standard to the Jedi order. Naturally he carries his lightsaber with him except in special circumstances. Kayin's lightsaber has a blue blade, and is similar in appearance to the lightsaber that Obi-Wan Kenobi would carry in his days in exile on Tatooine some thirteen thousand years later.
Physical attributes:
Being a Cathar, Kayin possesses greater strength than other more slight species, but is by no means a superman. His retractable claws are a dangerous weapon of last resort, but he considers using them to be dirty and unfitting for a Jedi, preferring to rely on his skills with a lightsaber and the Force. He is quick on his feet, and certainly not clumsy, however in his youth he still has not reached the grace and agility of either a fully trained Jedi or a fully grown Cathar. Kayin's Cathar biology grants him an accelerated healing rate for minor wounds, and a sturdy constitution.
Lightsaber Forms:
Kayin has chosen Form III as his preferred fighting style, feeling that it suits his balanced, but conservative nature in battle. Through his discipline and training, as well as his natural and force-augmented physical attributes he has become proficient.
Mental Attributes:
Kayin is clever for his age, and a quick study. His Jedi training has sharpened his mind, allowing him to quickly memorize and understand basic schematics, work the diverse and sometimes confusing technology of the galaxy, and come up with creative and innovative solutions on the battlefield. Naturally he has not yet gained the wisdom of a Jedi Knight, and relies on his instructors and Master for guidance.
Force Sensitivity:
Kayin is a young Padawan off to a promising start in the order. He has learned to use the Force to increase his strength, speed, and stamina, perform acrobatics beyond the normal Cathar range, and heighten his senses. He is learning to reach out to detect and touch the minds of other beings, though this still requires moderate focus on his part and is limited in range compared to a Jedi Knight.
He has also learned the skill of telekinesis, able to levitate objects and control their motion. Though this skill is still imperfect when used against living beings, he can direct the Force into a bust of telekinetic energy to knock down an unsuspecting or careless opponent.
Kayin's trademark talent would probably be an aptitude for using the force to dramatically slow his perception of time, feeling like he is underwater, watching a frozen moment from the sidelines, or to simply put more technical thought into his attacks for offense or defense.
Strengths:
Kayin's fighting skills are conservative and balanced, and combined with his Cathar stamina and constitution this gives him an edge in long battles, or in battles against multiple opponents. This is enhanced by his preference of Form III lightsaber combat. He has also shown an affinity for slowing his perception of time with the force.
Weaknesses:
Kayin's greatest weakness would probably be his inexperience, as he has limited exposure to the world outside the Jedi Temple. This makes him naive to the point of clueless in some situations.
Personality:
Kayin's personality has been influenced by his time at the Jedi Temple, and he aspires to the confidence, serenity, and gentle wisdom of a Jedi Master. Kayin takes great pride from his position in the Jedi Order, and gains satisfaction in knowing that by his presance he can help to make the Galaxy a better place. However, he is still a young man, and this can break through his developing discipline when he is excited, amused, or in rare cases frustrated or angry.
Though Cathar are often profiled as aggressive or even bloodthirsty, nothing is farther from the truth in Kayin's case. A combination of a gentle nature and his sheltered upbringing in the Jedi Temple have made him quite upbeat and cheerful, and exceptionally slow to anger. Despite his carefree nature, Kayin understands that battle is a life-and-death situation, and is disciplined enough to reign in his emotions and become a cunning and effective warrior despite the fact that he'd sometimes rather be goofing off.
As well as being quick to laugh, Kayin is quick to trust and extend the hand of friendship to those around him. This is more part of his nature than a conscious decision, and in a dangerous galaxy Kayin can even be considered gullible or naive. He must rely on his Master, and other Jedi to see through webs of deception that may be drawn around him before it is too late.
A true and devoted friend, Kayin would happily follow his Master or his companions through the heart of a Black Hole and out the other side if they asked him to.
History:
Kayin was chosen at a young age to join the Jedi Order, and has no memory of his previous life or his parents. From the Jedi he knows that he was born and cared for in his early days by Cathar colonists on a sparsely populated planet of the mid-rim, but he has put his origin behind him, feeling that the only home he has ever known is the Jedi temple.
In Kayin's time with the order he has made friends among the other students, though many of them have already left the Temple, chosen by Jedi Masters and becoming Padawans. Despite this, Kayin doesn't feel abandoned, and knows that his time to become a Padawan will come one day. He eagerly awaits a Master to teach him more about the ways of the force.
In the meantime, Kayin's age and experience relative to younger students has made him an informal mentor to those close to him, and he is happy to share what he's learned with students much younger than him. He is happy in his position, but can't help but feel that he is ready to move beyond life in the Temple and begin his Journey through the Galaxy.
