KRO VAR
8.17am local time

Ships?! Sailing ships?! But who’s? From where?

None of it made any sense. Dash had seen it in his dreams before the message had even been brought to him. Great ships, of an unfamiliar design, beaching on a frozen shore. A small camp, anxious faces and burgeoning fortifications.

The Rhinnalian pulled on his armour and over robe, sweeping out the rudimentary bedchamber of the new Kro Var temple, down towards the exit out onto the ice flats. If these visitors were real, they were establishing a beachhead barely a kilometre to the south and Dash had to find out more. He had not thought a soul lived on Kro Var outside the mountain he was making a home for the Jedi. Where had these newcomers come from?

He tried to give reassuring looks to the few workers and droids toiling away inside the icy halls, moving rock and carving entryways. This was all totally unexpected, but they were looking to him to keep their fledgling sanctuary safe. None of them were equipped to help and Kro Var currently had few visitors.

Dash told himself he wouldn’t need help. This was his place now, his land and he was ready for anything that might threaten it.

The work never ended for a Jedi. Not even a few days after his return from Coruscant to the Starlight Station and news had come that an enterprising Jedi Knight was establishing a new temple on the little known planet of Kro Var in the unknown regions. Not something Mako would normally put much effort into investigating, but a quiet whisper carried on the currents of the force had turned his attention it's way.

And so he arrived, gliding through the icy air towards the temple in an E-wing starfighter. Reports coming back from the newly under construction temple had claimed the planet was uninhabited. Looking down from his vantage point as he crossed over the icy shores, sailing ships and fresh fortifications claimed otherwise as he watched the native soldiers point up at his starfighter as he buzzed past them.

The R5 droid behind Mako twirped and shrilled as it claimed they were being fired upon. No laser blasts came however, and Mako almost didn't spot the rocks and bolts of flame that seemed to fly up from underneath, ultimately falling short as he zoomed past the fortifications and towards the temple.

Curious. Very curious. Mako was still trying to decide what he made of the situation as he brought the E-wing in to land at the temple. He hopped out of the starfighter and his boots hit the icy makeshift landing pad. The Pyke Jedi looked around at the various laborers and droids that were sparse in the area.

"Who's in charge here?" He asked the nearest man, who seemed surprised by the sudden appearance and pointed in a direction while mumbling something incoherent. Mako stared at him for a moment with dark eyes as he tried to decide if he had merely not properly heard the man, or if he had actually just mumbled incoherently.

Dash was nearly out the door when he distantly heard the exchange. It stuck out immediately given how few visitors Kro Var had.

The Rhinnalian turned, spying the Pyke Jedi who had appeared quite without warning. Quite an achievement for one so prominent.

I am in charge” Dash said, as authoritatively as he could. It was the first time he had said anything of the kind, but he felt it intrinsically. He had built this place, such as it was, from the ground up. If the Pyke was a fellow Jedi, then he was welcome if he planned to help. But Dash had little time for anything else, he had quite enough on.

He took a few steps back in the Pyke’s direction, no taller for it but his blue gaze was as hard as iron. “Dash Pavan. Seems we have something kicking off down at the water. If you’re here to help, might not be a bad thing to have another Jedi by my side?.“. Dash looked the newcomer up and down, finding it hard to read anyone so alien. But maybe his arrival could be good news after all.

Mako turned his head as a new voice rang out and a silver haired Jedi crossed the landing platform and approached him. Mako gave a nod of gratitude to the man he couldn't understand and the worker seemed relieved to return to his duties.

Mako took a moment to appraise the Jedi as he introduced himself. His eyes were hard, like ore mined from the earth. He had a look about him that spoke of imminent threat to those who had encroached upon what he considered his. Mako's own dark alien eyes would be hard to read as he continued to get a grasp of the situation.

"Mako Krim." He said, offering a small, calming smile as he continued. "I heard about the temple you had begun construction on and thought I might come check it out." He said with a nod of his overly large head. The lightsaber at his belt and markings on his starship would be more than enough to indicate his membership of the Jedi Order to Dash.

"I noticed you had company on my way in." Mako said in response to the comment about things kicking off. He wasn't quite sure what the situation was but it didn't seem favorable. "If you wouldn't mind filling me in on the situation while we walk." Mako finished, he would follow Dash to wherever his destination was as he gained his bearings.

"Mako" Dash nodded, trying to commit the name to memory. The Pyke smiled and Dash decided not to go for a handshake. He had never met Mako and knew virtually nothing about his species. He would have been excited to learn if not for the situation.

"Thanks for coming" he added, motioning them through the archway and out onto the ice flats down toward the coast. The mountain was several kilometres from the ocean proper, but a large fissure in the land meant a finger of seawater reached much closer inland. Apparently that was where the newcomers had landed.

"You saw them did you?" Dash's heart sank at the confirmation. The sightings had not been mistakes after all. "We thought this planet was deserted" he explained "we've never seen any people or animal life in the area and ships' sensors never picked up anything further afield". He clenched his jaw. They had not searched the planet in full in truth, but there had been no reason to.

"The histories tell of the Shapers of Kro Var" he continued, "elemental Force users who made this world their home. But there has been no word of them for hundreds of years. If these people are Shapers, they must be here because of the change in the land".

The Rhinnalian paused, staring at the snow as they hurried up a ridge. This was difficult with a stranger to events. How did he explain to Mako that he had brought the ice and snow down on the mountain? That he had released his malevolent ancestor Jadis Charn from centuries of imprisonment, only to kill her, but not before the icy nexus she nurtured was loosed on the world.

They crested the ridge and stopped. Large sail ships were beached on the frozen shore, at least three of them, and a burgeoning encampment was being erected in their shadow. Fires burned at regular intervals along its perimeter and at least two dozen people hurried about in plain sight. They were real enough, that was for sure.

"I released a force nexus beneath the mountain" Dash said finally "it can be useful to us, but freeing it froze over everything you see. I can work the ice and I thought it was a good thing. But whoever these people are, they may not agree". He gave Mako a serious look. "We will need to be very careful".
