Shane blew a stray lcok of hair out of his eyes and re-donned the helmet.

"No. Nothing at all," Shane retrieved his knife, holding it in the defensive position again he motioned for Krysta to resume her attack.

For a moment she felt suspicion well up in her before she shook it off with a small shrug. She reached for her helmet and put it on, adjusting it a bit in a nitpick way. As she was adjusting, she suddenly made a kick towards his midsection, while setting herself up to grab her short vibrosword.

Shane had been ready for an attack at anytime. He was over joyed that this girl attacked out of the ordinary when another opponent might not be ready. He jumped back enough so the foot wuld just miss him. Using her foot would be a bad choice since her balance was now focused on one leg. Shane grabbed hold of her limb before she could withdraw it completely and shoved it aside. The force would most likely put her off balance or cause her to fall over completely. To fill in the factor that she would just go off balance, Shane charged with his knife in hand ready to use a body check to knock her to the ground.

She spoke something in Mando'a just as she felt him grab her leg in self-defense. She should have known better than that. Before she could retaliate, though, he had tossed her leg to the side, throwing her off-balance. She lost her footing and fell to the side, on her back. Knowing he would come down on her, she raised her vibrosword up towards him as she fell, so that, should he tackle her, he would end up with a nice hole through his midsection. In this position she couldn't do much else except gauge his response and act accordingly, and she still wasn't sure of what he would do.

Shane backed up allowed the Recruit to stand up again.

"Like I said before I was a little into the fighting and I attacked you while you were down. I believe I also said that this was just an excercise to gauge your current abilities. We are done and you are an exceptional fighter, for a medic."

Shane sheathed his knife and walked towards her, extending his hand to help her up.

She looked up at him, confused before she lowered her blade. She knew full well it might be a trap, but he looked sincere. Krysta grasped his hand and pulled herself to her feet before sheathing her short sword.

She smiled at him as she said, "That's all right, I was trying to run you through, so I guess I was a bit into it, too. And I can't be too good, twice you knocked me off my feet within ten seconds of starting." She said with a sheepish grin, but she was pleased with his comment. She pulled her helmet off and shook her head to loosen herself a bit before looking up at him again.

"So you maid a few mistakes. Sure, if this were real your enemy wouldn't hesitate to kill you. But, you also did evade my attack when I followed you to the ground. Nothing some training can't help."

Shane went to a piece of foliage and swept aside to reveal a small greenish crate. He slid the top away from him to reveal a slew of weaponry. Selecting a rifle and binoculars he walked back towards the medic.

"I'd hate to do this but I would be remiss if I didn't atleast make you shoot at some targets. You can undo your hair if you please, we shouldn't be needing the helmet's for awhile. I'll keep mine on though, makes me look imposing."

Shane laughed a little and handed the rifle over and began to adjust the binoculars for his use.

She stifled a moan when she saw him bring out the funny-looking blaster. She was hoping this would come later. She sighed and undid her hair as 'ordered,' as it were, but still held it back in a loose, messy bun, with sidelocks running down her cheeks. She had to keep her hair out of her eyes, especially if the wind picked up.

Reluctantly, she reached out and grasped the rifle, handling it a bit in disgust before she looked back up at him. "Where would these targets be?"

"There out there across the canyon. Some are low and others are high. The low ones are to depict other soldiers and the ones in the trees will be more concealed and depict enemy marksman. The shine of their scope is a big thing to look for."

Shane sat on a nearby rock and raised his binoculars to his eyes to make visual adjustments. Lowering them again to see where Krysta would be shooting.

"Great," she muttered to herself as she lifted the rifle up to her shoulder and peered down the sight. She hadn't the most perfect of eyesight, but it had always been enough before, so she would utilize it now. She was very careful in trying to set up her aim, watching the targets carefully to see if there were any patterns in their movements before swinging the barrel around to one, straightening out the shot, and firing. Fortunately, the gun was low powered; on normal power she might have been thrown off her feet the force from the blast was so great. As it was, still, the scope bounced back with such velocity that it caught her right in the eye. She muttered something before putting one hand up to her right eye, before putting it down again. She now had a half-moon-shaped cut/bruise beneath her eye, lovely.

She once more blew a lock of hair out of herface to help in concentration as she took aim again, not at all surprised that her first shot hadn't even grazed the target. She picked another subject before lining it up, this time moving her head back a bit to avoid hitting herself again. Once more she squeezed the trigger, able to watch the shot as it went towards it... went towards it...

Once more she muttered as the shot passed a foot or so to one side of it, repeating the cycle over and over as she fired at them in turn, only sighting one or two of the supposedly sniper ones. She grazed three of the targets, which she took pride in, though she knew they were probably just lucky shots.

"It might help if you lay down and use the bipod folded under the barrel. The ground would be a more satbel firing base. Try to steady your breathing. Squeeze the trigger, don't pull."

Shane walked up to her to try an adjust her arms and the rifle in them. He really wasn't trying to make her feel bad. He jsut didn't want the girl to be in this situation in the field and be ill equipped. He noticed the bruise on her face and frowned. Maybe if she had been wearing her helmet that wouldn't of happened. Or if he had given these pointers earlier. He was used to training soldiers who had been out of basic and knew how to handle a rifle. He bottled up the guilt however, thr bruise didn't look bad at all and didn't seem to hinder her beauty or look unsightly.

She nodded as he advised her, mentally kicking herself for being such a dunce. She decided to take his advice - after all, the ground was much more sturdy than her grip - and lay down, sniper stretched out in front of her, its two little legs supporting its barrel. She licked her lips as she once more took aim and fired, keeping in mind his suggestions about her grip and how she should treat the gun. She knew he understood exactly what he was doing, so even though her low experience had a tendency at times to want to go opposite his directions, she forced herself to do it his way.

Happily, she found that her rate for grazing the targets was higher, and she actually hit one, once. However, she still could not spot any more than one of the hidden snipers than she had already hit, and she managed to miss him.

It was a good thing he had his helmet on because he was frowning slightly. He didn't want to tdiscurage the girl but she was really bad. Instead of forcing her to take out all ten targets he had set up he would end it now.

"All right, Krysta. That will be enough today. I'll try to improve your aim on another day. I'm afraid you most likely won't get out of here without being able to hit something."

Shane offered her a hand up and put the binoculars on his belt, freeing up his hand so he could reach it out to grab the rifle from her when she offered to give it up.

She could tell he was disappointed, and it hurt her. She felt a lot like a failure, but she wasn't going to show it, and she knew she had to beat the feeling. "All right," she said, quietly, as she handed the sniper over to him. Though she hated shooting, his stopping her only made her want to keep practicing until doomsday trying to improve her aim, but it was too late now. "But that might take a while." She replied before a small grin crept across her face at a thought as she reached down to her belt to grab something to soothe the scrape beneath her eye. "It's okay, I wouldn't trust you with a scalpel."

Shane chuckled and walked away a few paces. When he stopped he immediatly turned back to her.

"Well, it would seem we got to the point that you should choose what we do next. Something that you want to practice or improve in. We could do another melee sparring or some other excercise if you please."

Once again he was having problems in how he should train the medic. Teaching her tracking skills wasn't that essential and he wasn't about to shoot himself in the knee cap so she could attempt to fix it up.

"Well," she said, thinking, before shrugging. "I dunno, I'm not a trainer. Just teach me -or attempt to teach me - whatever you would normally train a soldier. I learn my medical stuff from another trainer, so you don't have to worry about that. Besides, we usually just work on cadavers. Not always, but usually." She clarified, getting the feeling that he was a bit unsure as to how to approach her training.

"Alright, then we will proceed as I have with other recruits. Staff training."

Shane placed the rifle back into the container and withdrew two staffs. He tossed the one in his right to Krysta.

"Staffs, of course, offer better range than a sword. These weapons are made out of wood so don't feel like you have to hold back. In fact, if anyone knew that me and you fought our first day with sharp weapons I'd probably be ripped back down to the rank of corporal before the night was over."

"Staff training, okay," she said, mostly to herself as she once more donned her helmet. Fortunately, she kept from further classifying herself as a dunce by deftly catching the staff as it was thrown at her.

"So we whack each other," she said, less a question than a statement. She began adjusting her grip - the staff was a bit heavy, though the wood was fairly light. One of the problems with being small. as she was adjusting, she suddenly moved her lower hand out, causing the bottom half of the staff to swing as she aimed its swift strike towards the sergeant's gun hand, hoping to hit it and perhaps 'maim' his grip for a few seconds as she tried to figure out what to do next.

Shane blocked her blow. Quickly and with a little foot work. The armor made him look like a brute but years of combat teaches you to be light on your feet.

"Staffs are easier to defend with. pretty much everything on them is the weapon and a means of blocking. I prefer them over swords for these reasons. Also the added fact that they can keep asword wielder's reach out of reach of yourself but still allow you to attack them. Cheap and cowardly? No, in battle every soldier comes to the table with what they are skilled with. It should matter little with what your opponent is armed with. Unless you have a pistol and they have a tank. then worry."

Shane moved into a defensive stance again. After seeing her attack few times he would give some more pointers.

((I'm so sorry! I forgot...))

"Depends on the tank." was all she said in reply. She carefully examined his stance, obviously defensive, difficult to break through. She didn't dare try to get in a lock with him, it wouldn't take but a few seconds max for him to overpower her. He seemed to have pretty quick reflexes, so making another strike would only get them into a regular fight, in which he, as the more experienced, would end up victorious in a matter of approximately ten seconds, about the length of her other fights with him. He made her seem inferior, but for some reason she found herself not really minding. She kind of more admired the ability he had.

Taking another split second in through, she made a jab at his stomach, using the end of the staff which would be difficult to block. She didn't know how he would respond, she hadn't used staffs in... oh... forever. Maybe never. Whatever.
