Shane side stepped the blow causing Krysta to move past him. As she passed he aimed a strike towards the small of her back. that area would leave a slight sting and the Commander always found that small annoyances and pain drove people to subconciously get better to avoid future treatments.

She managed to keep from letting out a surprised yelp when the staff smacked her lower back. It stung. She straightened for a moment, gripping the staff hard before giving her staff a twist, like a windmill, to catch Oderyn's staff as it pulled back from the strike, hoping to catch it and move it upwards as she made an attempt to bring the other end towards his side.

He wasn't expect such a quick reaction. But then again that was a personal fault and he'd have to curse himself for it later. The top of his staff went high as her collided with his side. He let out a slight groan before smacking her staff to the side and trying a one armed attack. He was holding it like a large sword, this would make his attacks towards the base hit harder. She was in range for that.

She held back a whoop of joy when she saw that her attack hit, she was happy she was at least able to hit him, that meant something compared to one with such experience. However, another side of her wanted to stop and make sure Sgt. Oderyn was okay, she didn't mean to hurt him, just hit him. He left her no time to think about checking up on him, though, as he swiftly began to move. Not as experienced in a staff, his swing loosened her grip, forcing one had to let go as the other fought to hold on as she tried to compensate.

He was using some kind of broadsword technique thing with the staff. It was a little long for hat usage, but whatever. She made an attempt to utilize the swing of the bumped staff to make into a kind of arc, but it was slow-ish in coming for his shoulder.

Shane ducked and utilized the now recovered staff as a spear. Though it couldn't pierce anything. He aimed carefully and amde a sharp thrusting motion at her abdomen. Hell, for reference point he used where he thought her belly button would be.

She was not at all prepared to block or in any other way react to Shane's attack, and really, she barely saw it happen, his move was so quick. Suddenly, she could feel an intense pain as the staff was thrust into her abdomen. She felt out of breath as the pain caused her to reflexively drop her staff before clutching her stomach. She knew she should have been tough enough to take that, by he had gotten a soft part of her abdominal armor, a flexible part that allowed her to move freely, right in between two ridges in it.

She wanted to say something and continue, but she blow had knocked the wind right out of her and she found herself unable to do either for a few seconds.

Shane immediatly stopped. He set his stick aside and waited for her to catch her breath. He had done that a tad too hard for a training excercise and she may have bruising there.

"Sorry, Krysta. Don't want you to think I am trying to beat the crap out of you."

He offered his hand to her. It was a bit easier to breath when you weren't bending over. That compressed the lungs. So you'd either lay down or stand. It seemed a bit odd for her to lay down out here.

"It's nothing, really, Shane," she replied as soon as she could. "After all, I got you in the side and... stuff," she said between breaths. It wasn't comfortable to straighten, but her head knew it was better for her if she did. She shook her head a bit to try to regain her bearings before looking around for her staff. She was sure that she'd be fine in a few more seconds.

OOC: Shane? Getting a tad friendly with your CO, lol.

Oderyn shrugged off the use of his firstname. The girl must have let it slip or she considered them to be on first anme basis. True, it was probably 'unfair' for him to use hers when she couldn't use his.

"Well, anyways training is over for today. Go home and get some sleep. Meet me back here tommorow and we will continue."

OOC2: Just RP you going home and coming back. Also, just refer to me as Commander now like nothing happened in between the promotion.

((I let it slip on purpose. I doesn't mean anything, she just likes 'Shane' better. If I get anything wrong about the facility, let me know and I'll change it))

She looked up at him for a moment, and wondered whether this scene was the cause for such an early retirement. She felt terribly guilty inside, as that seemed very likely. "Yes, sir," She replied, simply, before giving him a small salute. She proceeded to pick up her staff and hand it back to him before giving him a small grin. She then made her way back to her barracks, and prepared herself for the night.

Before she hit the sack, however, she put some kolto on the scope bite on her eye, that way it would be fully healed by morning.

-------

It hadn't been a very restful night, but oh, well. She made her way back to where Shane... Sgt. Oderyn was last time, expecting to meet him there again. She had her helmet already on this time, wanting to be prepared for anything.

Shane was walking up the hill. His chest plate, gauntlets, and helmet was at the stump near his location yesterday. He was wearing the black under layer of the armor with the sleeves rolled up. His hair was a bit matted and his breath was coming out in a few infrequent bursts. He had woken early to get a morning run of about four miles done. Then he had to comeback. Next time he would just go out two, still kicking himself for his poor foresight. When he caught hold of the Recruit he tried to slow his breathing more and put his hands on his hips.

"Good morning, Krysta. Hope you are all rested for today's training and excercises. Now before we start I would like you to do... say about fifty or so pushups and ajog out to that outpost. It's about a fifth a mile from here."

((.......-_-; ))

She gave him a cheery "Good morning," upon seeing him. He looked more casual and more tired today, as if he'd just been running. At his order, however, for a moment she just gave him a blank stare, almost as if to say, you can't be serious. However, just as quickly as it had come, she wiped it away - she had signed up to be trained, and this was training. Sometimes it stunk. This was one of those times.

She was glad her hair was already tied back, it would get in her way when she did the - urg - pushups. Sure, she'd done them before, she wasn't some ninny, but fifty at once? She wasn't some male, after all; or even a full-fleged soldier - just a medic. Suddenly things looked very bleak.

Despite her inner turmoil, she knew she'd never get them done if she never started. She wasn't sure if she could make it, but she wasn't about to give only half a try.

By thirty she was hurting. She somehow managed to convince herself that she had only twenty more (though it felt like infinity) to go, and kept it up, though a bit slower. She at last made it to fifty, but her arms were going to fall off and she felt like dying.

Still without a word, she willed her legs beneath her and looked around for that outpost - she wasn't so much worried by the run, she loved running. Upon finding it, she began her jog, as directed, though her legs were a bit sore from the pushups. However, she managed to make it back to Shane only a bit more out of breath than as would be usual, considering the exercise he had put her through beforehand.

The Commander was tightening up his boot and shoulder straps as Krysta returned to him. He still hadn't put on his helmet as he always preferred to wear only on missions and during excercises. Wearing it constantly just seemed a little impersonal and as if you had no faith in the comeptence in the base's security force. Instead, Shane picked up his helmet and kept it in an esier to reach place and placed it in the small circle his new bandolier and harness made around it.

Today he was sporting his camoflouge armor to better suit today's activities. Krysta already looked atad haggard from her pre-training conditioning and Shane made a mental note to tone it down for the medic. Though not that much. If she harbored ill will towards her trainer already then she may hate him a tad more today.

"Well, Krysta. It is my saddest duty to inform you that today's training will be blaster specific. Please, let out all signs of being disgruntled at this moment. I will not judge."

Despite the sinking feeling she got in her stomach at the revelation, all she said was "Oh," and a small sigh. At least blaster training was not physically intensive, she didn't need any more of that until she caught her breath. She shut her eyes as she ran her fingers through her hair. She licked her lips before looking back up at him. "Well, then, what first?"

"Well, first we will start small. Using a pistol to shoot at some targets then escalate from distance and to types of firearms."

Shane went to the equipment container and drew a training pistol. It was weaker than most basters but it had devices in it to compensate for the recoil of a regular handgun. He walked back to Krysta and handed the blaster to her, he held the barrel.

"Now, I set up some targets over here, " Shane walked in there dierection and pointed them out, twelve targets all at varying elevation and distance, "You will shoot from this area around the stump. Take a few shots and I'll give you a few pointers after that. When we get done with the initial run I'll have you do it a couple more times then we will time you."

She took up the blaster pistol in her hands, unfamiliar with its feel, leaving an uncomfortable feeling in its use. Looks like she'd have to get used to it.

"Yes, sir," she replied with little emotion. She didn't want to be a stick-in-the-mud, and at the same time she wasn't particularly excited about what was set before her, but she would try.

Looking over at the designated spot, she lifted the pistol at the normal height, about at the shoulder, and shut one eye as she looked through the scope. What she would do without a scope, she would never know. Twelve. She first found and memorized their locations before choosing a nice, juicy, semi-close one, and took very careful aim.

Before she squeezed the trigger, she made sure that she had her finger on said object and not the... round semicircle whatever-it-was-called around it. One of the times that she hadn't she had been thoroughly embarrassed. This, completed, and all other things checked off, she lightly pressed on the trigger, signaling the explosion to follow.

To her joy, she hit a place near the edge of it. Thus encouraged, she went for a few more shots, mostly grazing them, some misses, a few hits.

Shane walked over from his spot where he had been watching from a tree. The spot was cool and got a steady breeze but he now had leave its perfect condition to help the Recruit. Walking next to her he put his right hand on he shoulder and lightly tapped her on the left side, enough so it was felt through the armor.

"You will want to space you legs out to completely steady your body. Try to put the pistol somewhat situated in front of your chest," Shane made a small line in the air between the grip of the pistol and her chest plate, not making contact with either.

"Once you have a steady base you will want to try and shallow your breathing to steady your arms. Also, try to hold your arms slightly bent. This will bring the firearm in closer to your body and steady it more but don't do it too much. We don't want you braining yourself if you aren't suited for the recoil. Instead you will tense your muscles slightly but don't stiffen up."

Her head snapped to meet his face when she felt him tap her shoulder. One, because she wanted to be obedient, and, two, because she didn't know yet if he was the type to try anything. After all, they had just met.

Nodding at his direction, she spread out her legs a bit and realigned her pistol. It was a bit different than what she was used to, and as such felt somewhat uncomfortable. "Stiffen, not tense..." she said to herself, trying to fulfill the demand. She then took a relaxing breath and tried once more, mentally reminding herself to slow her breath. Once more she took aim and fired, but it was way off.

She held back a groan of frustration, telling herself that it was because she wasn't used to the stance yet. A couple more times she tried, getting better, she scraped one once, but it was still not getting it.

She took a deep breath and tried again, waging war on that idiotic little target. She hated that target, either it was going to die or she was. Once more she determinedly raised the barrel and began shooting, slowly getting the hang of the pose. She still wasn't perfect, but after fifteen minutes she definitely was shooting better than she was before she had changed her position.

Shane nodded approval at the Recruits apparent approvement. It seemed a bit hopeless at first but Krysta seemed to be getting the hang of it. If the target were an actual enemy however she would hav scored some good shots depending where she was aiming but the opposer still wouldn't be downed.

"When you think you are ready try moving onto the next target. We won't do the time trials today. But once you finsih up with pistols we may move on to something a tad bigger."

"Okay." she said, a bit timidly and embarrassed. She knew she was doing far below what an average Mando'ade would have accomplished. She would get better though, she would get better. If it took forever, she would get better.

She didn't know how long she kept practicing first on the closest, then alternating with the next three closest targets, time blurred. Over and over, repeated the motions until they were beginning to become automatic to her. Of course, she didn't know if she'd be able to mimic them after a couple hour's break, but for the moment she was getting them down pat. She was getting better though, so that she was beginning to be pleased with herself.
