Larson Kao was a male businessman and entrepreneur who lived during the 'Force Eternal' period of galactic history. Born on the once notable world of Vardos, he spent a period of time in the planetary defence forces, before breaking into the world of galactic commerce. He is currently a citizen of the Corporate Sector.

Biography

Born to a family with strong historic ties to the galactic empire, and one of its successor 'remnant states', a family that could trace their lineage back to the age of the Empire. His parents were well off, with his father already a businessman in his own right, and founder of KaoTech, at the time a small engineering workshop that restored out of date droid models. Growing up in a modest family home just outside the planetary capital of Kestro, he became involved in the family business from a young age, and as a young adult showed an excellent work ethic, and a natural talent which encouraged his father to trust him with more and more of the day-to-day running of the shop.

However, his career was to be interrupted by the advent of a period of considerable unrest in the region. With threats from off-world motivating the planetary Governor to expand the starfighter corp of the world, he was quickly encouraged to enlist as a pilot and signed on to the Vardos 19th Ace Squadron shortly after his twenty-third birthday. A natural at the helm of a starfighter, he rapidly rose through the ranks, and soon attained the rank of Wing-Commander. A skilled piloting ace, he mostly flew ex-Imperial Tie Fighters, a fact that delighted his parents immensely.

Undertaking nearly ten years of active combat service, he was honourable discharged after a combat injury and returned to his family home thereafter. His injuries, which left him unable to meet the requirements of his assignment without significant (and expensive) medical aid, rendered him out of service. However, not one to allow such an occurrence to slow him down, he started his own security outfit, bringing the wealthy and powerful clientele of Vardos and the surrounding moons into contact with a well-spring of veterans, all looking for work and better conditions. Fuelled by a committed belief that Vardos, one the crown jewel in the Imperial Crown of old, had fallen by the wayside due to weak and lacklustre leadership, he saw it as a personal mission of his to do what he could to bring his world, and his family, back to the glory days they had once known.

Yet, as the galaxy evolved beyond the need for Empires and warlords, the young man understood that the domination and progress he sought would be won in the world of commerce, not on the field of battle. Capitalising on the instability created by the rise of the Sith Empire, and the fracturing of the Galactic Senate, he threw himself into his work, focusing on the security and manufacturing sector as the ones he would make a play for. He envisioned a new 'Empire', one that would dominate the galaxy politically and economically, and believed that he was the man to make it happen.

Ever since he has refused to look back on his time in the Vardos Armed Forces and devoted his total and complete attention to the work that lay before him. Studying economics, engineering, finance and much more, he attempted to expand the name of his family, and build a fortune and status that would put Vardos, and the Empire of old, to shame.

Personality & Traits

A man of immense focus, he is possessed by a degree of arrogance and self-belief that motivates him to push further and harder than others might attempt. Working tirelessly to see the ideal for which he stands, namely the establishment of a new form of a pan-galactic empire, he believes his dedication and hard work to this cause to be the only thing worth striving for. Firmly believing in 'Imperial Values', his upbringing as the scion of a once notable Imperial Family is obvious. In spite of being a cold person, he genuinely believes he is a fundamentally good person, owing to his belief that the 'end goal' he seeks to achieve would be a net positive for the wider galaxy.

He is loyal to his family and places their interests (which he believes are intertwined with the broader interests of his mission) above everything else. A proud man, he has a somewhat traditional code of ethics. Looking back on the history of the Empire and its successor states, he doesn't believe that the Empire will ever return to its old form and instead believes that the old-Imperial class should seek to reimpose their power through economic and commercial means.

Constantly striving for perfection, he is exceptionally well-educated, having studied finance, economics and history at the University of Kuat, and continues to ensure he is well-read in galactic affairs to this day. He harbours a deep mistrust, bordering on hatred, for the Jedi Order, which he believes to be a fanatic religious cult, that toppled the 'one true government' in the galaxy. He has a ruthless streak in business, and believes in using underhand methods, such as blackmail, assassination, bribery and more to assure the desired outcome is achieved. To this end, he considered influence and information a more valuable set of resources than mere credits.

Equipment

A man of means, Kao made use of a Guild d'Lanseaux Star Yacht for his personal travel and was often wearing an Armored Suit when out and about.

Skills & Abilities

Kao was a capable and effective operator, not only behind the controls of a starfighter but also in a wide range of commercially-minded pursuits. A keen advocate of the idea that a "healthy body makes a healthy mind", he was skilled in the martial arts form of Teräs Käsi. Having worked in business for much of his adult life, he had a commendable understanding of data and finance, and could quickly and effectively analyse information.

A man of the galaxy, he was always on the move. As such, he could speak several languages and could carry out repairs on ships and droids without the need for external help. He was not force sensitive but was well aware of its existence, and the considerable power of its wielders.

Commercial Interests

The Kao Commercial Combine (known as KCC) was a multi-planetary corporation that was active during the Force Eternal period of Galactic history. Founded by Larson Kao, the company initially operated in the security, logistics, and investment market.

Structure

KCC has an adaptive structure, consisting of multiple business units focusing on specific fields of operation. With KCC itself serving as the holding company, overseen by a board of directors, it currently consists of the following companies:
  • AutoMate Solution: A droid leasing company focusing on the provision of droid labor and security services, mostly based out of orbital platforms in and around the access and egress points of populated worlds. It provides stevedore droids, utility droids, and guard units, as well as their associated maintenance and upkeep services, on lease.
  • Star Security: A cybersecurity firm, specializing in on-site security, Star Security provides droids and white-hat slicers, which secure the holonet and technical infrastructure of a location. The firm also offers remote ship-bound facilities as well.
  • Kao AgriTech: Consisting of a range of automated protein farms, Kao AgriTech operates primarily in the outer rim. Setting up operations on remote worlds and moons, it provides a range of base food products that are used as ingredients in the broader fast-food sector.
KCC provides for a wide-spanning degree of 'business flexibility' within the companies it controls, enabling the firms to expand however they wish, provided that they meet the extensive commercial targets set by their owners. At the holding company level, the KCC itself merely extracts profits from the companies it owns, to pay its directors, and the associated costs of their undertakings, including but not limited to their legal teams.

The KCC currently works the Government of Vandor, and the Sith Imperial Detention Service
