You spend 700 billion on your military a year. If you can't even bother to bomb a few tanks belonging to a third world country in order to avoid a genocide then you might as well disband your military altogether and rename your country "New New Zealand"

Our military is already strained and exhausted fighting a war of attrition in Afghanistan. Ironically the place where empires go to die.

And we shouldn't be spending 700 billion on our military, that is one of the main reasons our country is in the red.

Sending in a few fighter jets to bomb a tin pot dictator doesn't further strain our military. It diverts a few aircraft from elsewhere -- which, by the way, is done to help people who are fighting to get rid of an asshole dictator.

Seriously, we're not talking about sending in ground troops here.

This made me laugh.

Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, says that Germany will not take part in the no-fly zone, but that they support the UN aims;

"As everyone know, Germany will not take part in the military intervention and only because of this ... we decided to abstain. We unreservedly share the aim of this resolution. Our abstention should not be confused with neutrality."

That's to say "We're not touching this with a barge pole but you we support your aims"

It's great that it has already had an effect, but I am going to remain skeptical.

Our country has a bad habit of not sticking to outlined objectives.

I love how:
Canada's six war planes will join an international effort authorized by the United Nations Security Council on Thursday night.
makes it sound like that is the entirety of Canada's air-force

but then they are sending CF-18

you may think that means Canadian F-18... but the C actually stands for Charlie Sheen F-18

That video was uploaded on March 6th....

He was clearly being sarcastic.

Afghanistan comes to mind. I don't recall it being originally outlined that we would be there for a decade.

There was no set time frame or date for withdrawal. Being there for a decade doesn't stray from outlined objectives.

From what I am reading, seems the Americans aren't actually gonna do anything bar logistical support.
