Ugh, Matt-matt!
What Cassa said.

Folks pretty please wrap your Olympic race results and etc spoiler tags. Folks, like me, don’t get to SEE the matches after it’s occurred. :/

/rants

The event in question was aired in the US two hours ago.

We interrupt this scheduled broadcast for...

...my word.

Wow. She is quite beautiful.

Also, why are Olympic gymnastics always such an emotional rollercoaster?

...

Well, seeing as I am at the mercy of our local NBC station, I don’t get to SEE the event in question until later tonight. You guys ruined it for me. :/

EDIT: Thus the reason why I love Yahoo news. They actually put spoiler alerts on all the Olympic reports.

NBC appear to be royally ****ing up their broadcasts of the Olympics constantly, since the opening.

Kaeb, and Matt-matt, I believe you're looking for the Pink, thread. :-]

Hmmm… Go figure…

- U.S. IRS has a hefty price for Olympic medalist. Like the author of the article, I think they should be exeptmed from the aforementioned tax. Come on ‘military members are exempt from taxes when they're deployed overseas’!!!

Full article <----

EDIT: Yes, I concur with your point about NBC, Kaeb. Frugality gets the best of me, and I refuse to purchase cable. So yah- I basically have to watch what NBC [ST]arbitrarily [/ST]decides to air during the week.

All the Canadian athletes who won a medal were from Quebec. Not sure why we bother putting up with them.

Had to re-read it twice! I thought it was Pros' rants...

Except my rants are more stylistically composed and written with the same technical ability that goes into all of my posts.

/Haughty sniff

Though I don't particularly disagree with BN's interpretation. I did gymnastics in my younger days as well, and while I know about pressure and whatnot, completion of mastered skills is much better than floundering at routines beyond one's ken.

^ said it before I could :P

True.
Although they are experiencing a ton of pressure, one has to remind himself that they were picked to go because others believed they could handle it and they assured them that they could. Gymnastics is a completely individual sport, winning pommels depends solely on how hard the gymnast competing the event trained. If you botch, you either didn't train hard enough, or you let frazzled nerves get the best of you. Neither of which should happen to someone entrusted, and assured others they were trustworthy, to represent our country in the Olympics.

EDIT: now the above has nothing to do with not winning, it has to do with screwing up(As in, falling). You could be beaten just because the other guy is better than you, sometimes it doesn't have to do with training or effort. But if you fall, that is solely the individual's fault.

Woot

Tour De France winner Bradley Wiggans becomes Britains most decorated Olympian with a gold in the time trail today.

Double woot
Now it's Chris Hoy who is the most successful.

Hooray for Gabby Douglas and her all-around women's gold. Boo for arcane Olympic procedure keeping Aly Raisman in fourth (just give her and Mustafina both a bronze, for goodness' sake.)

And in some related Olympic silliness (and an interesting reminder that assholes exist in all sorts of contexts):

Huh.

For what it's worth (and it shouldn't be, it's male privilege to try and completely dictate aesthetic standards for the fairer sex), I think Gabby Douglas is adorable. Though that elides the wider point of some people can't keep things in their proper place and context. An amazing athlete with an inspiring life story just did amazing feats for one of the greatest sporting honors in the world.

And... her hair looks bad?

Oy vey.

Let's just say I was not amused- ruined the race for me.

I found this satire on the The New Yorker website. It clearly expresses the sentiments that I feel.

Today NBC Sports issued the following message to viewers of its prime-time coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games in London:

Andy Borowitz said:
Dear NBC Viewers:

Last night, millions of you were thrilled to see the U.S.A.’s Missy Franklin win the gold medal in the hundred-metre backstroke race. That is, you would have been thrilled, except that just before the race we showed promos of Missy Franklin appearing on the Today show with the gold medal she won for the hundred-metre backstroke race.

If you’ve been watching NBC in prime time the past few nights, you’ve probably noticed how, night in, night out, we’ve been wrecking the Olympics for you. All we can say is, our bad. At NBC we’re just not used to broadcasting things that people want to watch.

But all that’s about to change.

Tonight, for those of you who like watching the Olympics without having every moment drained of its entertainment value, we are launching a new premium service called NBCFree: the Olympics without any contributions from NBC whatsoever.

For only $29.95 you can watch the Olympics with no spoilers, no maudlin “personal narratives,” and no promos for NBC’s new fall shows like that egregious one with the doctor and the monkey we show like every five minutes. And for $39.95, no Ryan Seacrest.

So contact your cable or satellite provider and order NBCFree today. And if you don’t? Well, all we can say is, we already know what other medals Missy has won, and we’re not afraid to tell you.

Sincerely,

NBC
