Onderon, Raxx Estate

The Nakadr would exit hyperspace over the world of Onderon. It had been some time since he or one of his Clan had come to the world, centuries since their outpost on Dxun was lost. But it was finding that outpost that brought the War Priest here, he had heard of a pariah amongst the Onderonians, a man so traveled on Dxun, that he had either charted or adventured each last inch of the Demon Moon.

Kliedden Raxx, like his uncle, had gained notoriety for traversing Dxun, an act that had earned both a black mark and it was perhaps because of that, that Srucayr was now seeking the man out. Srucayr had seen the man only briefly at the Huttball game, but that itself wasn't the proper moment to discuss anything. So, Srucayr would figure out where the man operated and visit him there. It was on the list of places, with Manaan being next.

Srucayr would walk aboard his Kom'rk class carrier, accompanied by a few of his warriors and a younger War Priestess. Most would stay aboard the craft, while he and the trainee dealt with the matters at hand. Kad willing, it would be a short stop before they could continue on. Forward scouts had managed to make contact with locals who could get the precise location and means for contacting the owner of the state and now, they would be taking advantage of that. The pilot would activate the comm and hail the estate. "Raxx estate, this is the Nakadr, a Mandalorian vessel looking to get some respite from a long journey and a business proposition."

Srucayr would slap the mans pauldron before heading back to the main hold as the Nakadr dipped downwards and began it's descent through the Onderonian atmosphere. Several moments would pass before they pierced through the clouds and the estate slowly began to shift into view. The leader of the War Priests would say a silent prayer for guidance. This meeting could either make or break their efforts on Dxun.

Klied's time on the Daedalus had been a mixed bag. Poffo had essentially won the Huttball game singlehandedly, destroying the competition and making himself a household name, thus promising them many future clients for their burgeoning mercenary company. He himself had made some good deals with some very wealthy people as well. But he found he couldn't enjoy it much. The situation with Aska and Ali only seemed to be eating at him more now. He couldn't stop thinking about it, so he dealt with the issue the way he normally did. He isolated himself and shot things.

While the rest of the gang was off taking a victory lap throughout Iziz, he had elected to remain home, arming himself with all the weapons he could carry and letting loose down range with vicious determination. Even now he stood crouched carefully at the stall of the outdoor range, sun beating down on him as he took aim and fired. He hit his target again, but there was still no satisfaction. The hunter grumbled as he pulled back the bolt on his slugthrower and the casing popped out. What he really needed right now was to kill something.

He took aim again and prepared to fire when he was interrupted by one of the new servants approaching him from behind, looking awfully confused. "Lord Raxx?" she called somewhat cautiously. Already he and is usual guests had earned a reputation among the recently acquired staff of being exceedingly odd. Nothing like the puffed up nobles they typically served. "You're receiving a call..."

"Tell them I'm busy." Klied replied curtly. He had no interest in talking to investors or potential clients right now. The servant didn't leave though, instead scratching the back of her head awkwardly.

"Actually sir... They're requesting permission to land..." She said. Klied paused, then put down his rifle and turned around to face her.

"What?" He asked confusedly.

From above the crew of the Nakadr would find that their coordinates had brought them right into Iziz air space, flying over the capital city. The estate below, while certainly sizeable, was clearly not made for the purpose of accepting starships. The pilot would hear the crackle of the com as a somewhat frustrated voice replied. "If you want respite find a commercial hangar." The lord of the house replied. "This is a private residence not a landing pad!"

Srucayr would find his charge seated near one of the viewports in the main hold, her hallikset on her lap and her fingers at the strings plucking out a gentle tune as she seemed to look out over the planet they were approaching. It was how he often found her, honey brown eyes set off on some distant place while the rest of her remained behind to fill the void with music. She was already decked out and ready to go, silver durasteel covering most of her body with thick green and purple fabric peeking out from in between. One heel rested on the knee of her other leg to support her instrument as she played, her armorweave and fur skirts sinking between her legs to do the same. Despite her fugue state, Riye's gaze would snap to meet her teacher's as he approached her all the same, the young woman taking to her feet without a moment wasted.

"It's time, isn't it." She asked, setting the hallikset aside only to trade it for her gauntlets, silver and freshly polished just as the rest of her armor was. For this very mission, in fact. "I'm ready."

Srucayr would pause nearby, listening to the young woman play. It was probably one of her best gifts and she had played at his and Kiva's wedding. When she noticed him, she immediately popped up. "It is. Pack away your gear and get ready to disembark.".

"Srucayr!" The pilot would call back and the War Priest would head back to the cockpit.

"Yes?" he'd ask, less than amused.

"Said they don't have room to land. And it checks out. We're flying over Iziz right now."

"Perfect." Srucayr would press the comm botton. "It's about to become one." he'd cut the signal then head for the back. "Lower the ramp, don't land." Reaching the ramp, he'd hit the manual release, speeding up the process.

On the ground, the Nakadr would hover low over the estate grounds, the ramp a mere four feet off the ground. "Riye! Let's go." The War Priest would descend the ramp and hop to the ground. Once Riye jumped, the ramp would lift and the Mandalorian troop ship would take off, heading for beyond the city limits.

"On your command," Riye replied in kind, grabbing the instrument by the neck and rushing off to stow it with her other belongings. It wouldn't take her but a minute or two to catch up with Srucayr at the ramp, arriving just as he hit the manual release and looking down over the courtyard below as the wind rushed into the ship to whip her hair around into a dark tornado of curls.

She didn't wait for the order to be given this time, following the war priest down the ramp and jumping down beside him onto the grass of the estate, bending at her knees to absorb the shock of landing in full armor. Then she turned to watch as the ship ascended and disappeared over the walls behind the house - which she only now seemed to notice. "A man who lives in such a place... will he even speak with us?"

"Excuse me?" Klied asked angrily, but the Mandalorian had already cut the signal. Then he looked up as he heard the distinct roar of engines as a ship swooped in from above. Wordlessly he grabbed his belt and clipped it on, his Westar heavy blaster holstered on one side and his hunting knife on the other. The servant looked far less collected.

"Should I call the police sir?" She asked nervously.

"Hell no." Klied replied bluntly as he started making his way towards the front courtyard. "If these people are looking for trouble I'll give it to them myself. Tell everyone else to get inside."

In the main courtyard of the estate the wind produced by the hovering starship ripped leaves from the finely groomed trees and hedges and sent the gardeners running for cover. Not two seconds after the Mandalorians had jumped down onto the grounds did six security droids appear, forming a line between them and the manor house and raising their weapons. "Halt!" One of the droids called to them forcefully. "You are trespassing on private property. Depart immediately or you will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Failure to comply will be met with forceful detention."

As the droids stood with blasters ready Klied emerged from the front door and approached the scene. Already he had one hand on his blaster, ready to draw it in a heartbeat. He was not dressed for combat. The man wore nothing but a simple maroon shirt, black pants and comfortable shoes, but he wore the expression of an experienced and fearless warrior. His eyes bounced between the two Mandalorians as he stopped alongside his droids, analyzing them and guessing at their ability.

"You people are aware there's a front gate right?" He asked, voice dripping with sarcasm and edged with hostility. "I sincerely hope this is just a cultural misunderstanding. Otherwise we might have a problem..." He waited patiently for a response, prepared to give them the chance to explain themselves. But he didn't order his droids to lower their weapons. Not yet.

The young brunette was actually impressed by how quickly the estate responded to their arrival. She made no sudden moves nor did she even remove her gauntlets from her belt as the humanoid inhabitants ran from the courtyard and a half dozen droids appeared to make their demands against their less-than-invited guests. It was surprisingly efficient and, looking over the droids, she couldn't help but consider which of her weapons would work best against them if they should attack herself or Srucayr - a force of habit though neither of the two intended to be the ones to start that fight.

Then the master of the estate appeared, and Riye offered him a smile at his sarcastic comment. He certainly wasn't dressed for a fight, but he sounded like he was ready for one even so. She respected that grit. "I assure you we mean neither you nor yours any harm." She replied cooly to his threat, nodding with respect to the taller Mandalorian next to her. "I am called Riye, and this is the War Priest Srucayr."

Ancient blue and silver beskar had touched down on a world it hadn't walked since the days of the Old Republic and even now, something about it would feel.. familiar. The droids were quick to respond, it was to be expected. His visor shifted over them, noting their joints and already coming up with a plan should they attack.

He would take a step closer as the owner of the estate spoke, he'd heard of the man's reputation and knew full well he would be eager for such a hire. "There is, but the price for beskar is through the roof and I'd trust none in the city to stay their hands. For one thing is a constant amongst your kind, greed. And where my kind are known for their desire to wage battle, I'd rather kill three birds with one stone. You have a new merc company so this can help you with your desire for more wealth and given your own reputation, the promise of more adventure. We seek out members of our kind that reside on the Demon Moon. And as the young one said, we mean no harm.. Nor would you like the direction this would go if we did."

The War Priests hands would stay near away from his weapons, though decades of warfare meant he was able to reach for his sword or shield if needed. He would take another step forward, still mindful of the droids. "So what say you, Olkturilyr?"

Klied's eyes went first to the woman as she spoke, though he kept a neutral expression. At least she was polite enough to offer their names and try to defuse the situation. The priest on the other hand, his words caused Klied to glare contemptuously. This one was arrogant. Barging into his home, insulting his integrity by making accusations to a nature dominated by greed, and presuming they somehow had the upper hand on him. He certainly wasn't giving a good first impression.

"I say you need to learn some goddamn manners." He said in response to Srucayr's question, unmoved by his approach. "Your offer intrigues me, but you conspicuous lack of respect makes me reluctant to accept." He moved his hand away from his blaster and signaled his droids to lower their weapons. "I'm no common thug you can throw pocket change at and demand their services Mandalorian. Like you my life has been dedicated to my craft. I won't be dishonored in my own home." He turned and started walking towards the manor house.

"Come inside and we'll discuss this offer of yours." He explained without looking back at them. "And I suggest you leave the superior attitude at the door, or this will be very expensive for you." Klied didn't expect the two Mandalorians to attack without provocation, so had no fear in turning his back to them. Srucayr was right about one thing. Reputation was indeed important to him, and he wouldn't allow some strangers to drop in unannounced and presume to demand his assistance in their mission. As his circumstances should have made apparent, credits were of very little issue to him. Whether or not someone was worthy of his services was. The Onderonian would stop once inside the foyer of the house and look back, waiting for his 'guests'.

Riye's eyes widened slightly in surprise at the response their host offered them, unable to recognize what Srucayr said could be taken as an insult. "We would not be here if we did not respect you or your abilities." She started, looking to the more seasoned War Priest for guidance before moving to follow after Klied, trying to smooth over the misunderstanding in whatever way ended with the two of them getting what they needed from the man. "They are why we are here, in fact. You have particular knowledge that no one else in the galaxy is in possession of, and we need that knowledge to find our brethren."

She followed their host into the foyer, making motions with her hands as she tried to bring the three of them back onto equal ground with her words, always looking to Srucayr for cues in case she was speaking out of turn. All that mattered to her was their end goal, the will of Kad, and there was little she wouldn't do to reach that goal. "I believe this to be one of those... cultural misunderstandings you just spoke of. There was no insult intended."

"Only the weak-willed seek insult where there is none." Srucayr would say firmly. If this outsider wanted to take offense at words, that was between him and his gods. "And the need for increasing the cost would be the cost of your pride. Had I thought you were worth pocket change, I would have seized the estate and given you much worse options than a pay out."

The War Priest continued to walk forward. "Pride and greed are very dangerous things for the one who carries them. That said, for a man who has faced ridicule for being an Olkturilyr, or an Explorer, in your tongue. I would never presume you to be weak-willed, for to do what you have, requires the opposite. And given those marks, you should be above pride and greed."

As for Riye, Srucayr would let her speak freely, as that would be the way for her to learn, by doing. All the while, as they walked, his hands were never once near his weapons. And he would take a moment to admire any trophies in the foyer. If there was an increase in cost, Srucayr wasn't concerned. The Orar'da'yadr had thrived for centuries and though they were 'barbarians' they were far from poor. "Surely, you don't want to keep your mercenaries stationed here. Not because it wouldn't be fitting, but because it would make your holdings a target and them, easy to find. Our needs take us to Dxun.. as you know, there are many abandoned fortresses there.. but as you also know, the beasts of Dxun are often harder to kill than the people there.." He'd let his words hang in the air for a moment. "..In addition to payment, I will personally help you locate one and claim it. Just me, and with my word as my bond, I will take the location with me to the Gods."

The foyer of the home, while certainly opulent, likely wouldn't have been very impressive to the Mandalorians. Portraits and busts of old reputed ancestors, aesthetically beautiful paintings and other decorations, though no trophies. As the group of three walked down the hall, nervous servants gave the guests a wide berth. Klied looked to Riye more sympathetically as she spoke. Of the two of them, she certainly struck him as the more prudent. Again she tried to smooth things over, and again Srucayr's little lecture succeeded in getting under his skin. No wonder he was a priest. The hunter shook his head and chuckled.

"You two seriously need to learn how to approach people if you want to get anywhere without starting a fight." He commented as he walked. They claimed that they meant no disrespect, but that didn't stop them from coming here as though they were invaders. He could think of any number of ways this nonsense could have been avoided had they not charged in headlong like a pair of berserkers. And he certainly wasn't impressed by the priest's repeated insinuations of violence.

"But you are right about one thing though Mandalorian..." He said as he stopped at a pair of doors and glanced back at Srucayr. "The beasts of Dxun are often harder to kill then men." To punctuate his statement he turned forward and opened the doors to the trophy room. A large, high ceilinged chamber with several tall windows along the far wall filtering light in. The other three walls were covered from floor to ceiling in the mounted heads of various creatures. Not only those native to the Demon Moon, but from seemingly every corner of the galaxy. The largest being that of a Lesser Krayt Dragon. The wooden floor was covered with a series of animal pelt rugs and comfortable arm chairs and end tables. Wordlessly the hunter approached a cabinet and bent over to open it and pull out a bottle of whiskey and three glasses. He set the two aside and poured one glass for himself, leaving the other two if his guests decided to partake. Stepping back from the cabinet he leaned against an open section of the wall and looked them both over.

"I'll admit we have been looking in to setting up shop on Dxun." He confessed to Srucayr. "It makes for an excellent training ground. Would produce only the strongest warriors." He paused to take a sip of his drink. "Taking over an occupied base would be more desirable than pouring resources into renovating an abandoned one." He tilted his head slightly. "That being said I'm quite confident in my own and my comrades' abilities to take over a Mandalorian base on our own. What expertise exactly would I be getting by cutting you in on the operation?" Klied was open to the idea, but he wanted to hear exactly what Srucayr had to say for himself. More than just talent, he needed to know if the Mandalorian was going to be a tolerable presence. He certainly hadn't been so far.

It may not have been 'opulent' to most, but it certainly was to Riye. Being raised in the A'den Kal meant she spent more time in her armor than out of it, and more time sleeping on the ground than in a bed. Blankets were a luxury to her, and this? This was the first time she had ever seen a house of this size. Her first time seeing such an unapologetic display of wealth. Her wide eyes made that much perfectly clear - though she was just as much disgusted as she was fascinated by what she considered a huge waste of space. Such a large estate and yet so few people lived here? Shameful.

Following silently after Klied as they traversed the house, the young woman would give a warm smile and a nod of her head to each servant they passed. She had no intention of sowing fear here, and she hoped her freckled cheeks and soft eyes would at least do that much for her. At Klied's first comment, she gave a slight frown. "In our culture, we value honesty more than we do courtesy. Even if it results in a fight, we will still learn something of one another, will we not? There is no better way to know a man than to face him in battle."

As they moved into the trophy room, Riye's eyes were drawn up the walls by the variety of heads mounted there. It was yet another wonder of the estate that dazzled the eyes yet could house several families or a whole platoon of warriors if not for the aesthetic. Her jaw may have dropped just a little as she lifted her gaze all the way to the ceiling, though when their host spoke of 'taking over' a Mandalorian base he'd see her expression shift from prudent and curious to deathly serious. She did not like that he would even suggest such a thing. "You would receive the blessing of Kad." She replied curtly to his question. "Which would mean we will not attempt to retake that base from you."

The history alone, was more valuable than the trophies. There was a literal roadmap of where the house had been, which also gave the impression of what the house could become. Srucayr would wonder of this man actually had respect for his forebears, or if the décor had been the same for the last hundred or so years. The wasted wealth he saw amongst the Outsiders.

His attention would quickly return to Riye and Klied as the pair continued on. Srucayr would also bow his head respectfully to the servants, or were they slaves? And given the paltry difference in earning, he wondered if they weren't the same thing in some cases. Their gate would come to stop before a pair of double doors, likely the trophy room or some sort of lounge for business.

As the Onderonian opened the doors, Srucayr could not help but be somewhat impressed. Many of the beasts on the walls, his own people struggled to kill, but here, this nobleman had. As Klied offered them drinks, Srucayr would nod to Riye to accept the offer. He, however, would not partake. In fact, in had been some time since he had had alcohol. "No thank you." he'd say to the glass, though this time it was accompanied by a respectful head bow. "I am sure you and your comrades are quite capable, sure. But as you said, Dxun provides the training for the best troops, and the ones there will have lived on the Moon for centuries. Generations of tough bred warriors. The only Mandalorians your team has faced, for the most part, are Mandalorians that were not trying to kill, that is a whole different beast than a Clan trying to defend its home."

Srucayr would then pace around the room, his visor looking at other pieces but his voice meant for Klied. "Would you even know how to assault a Mandalorian base on Dxun? You would have less then five minutes to secure the way in. Five. And if you don't know what you're looking for, and I assure you that if don't have a Mandalorian from a Clan that has settled Dxun, you'll do it wrong. And something mercenaries always overlook is that collecting jobs, small operations, that's not waging a war, that's playing it. You don't have the experience to attack a Mandalorian base, let alone to prepare for the blowback of taking one. Intel, experience, support.. You have all three of those with me, without me, or without the Orar'da'yadr, you may take a base, but you'll lose more than you're comfortable with to take it and you certainly won't know how to hold it." As he finished speaking, his gaze would drift back to Klied.

As Riye frowned and spoke of her people valuing honesty over courtesy Klied would smile back. "They're not mutually exclusive you know." He countered. "In fact I'd say being honest with people is a large part of courtesy. But so is tact. Being observant enough to read a person and adjust your response accordingly, so as not to bring unnecessary hostility." While the Mandalorians were taught to think like soldiers, Klied had been taught to think like a predator. And predators did not risk their health without promise of reward. "When I want to know a man I sit down and talk to him. You don't learn anything if you're killed in battle. It's always better to make a friend then an enemy."

As they moved into the trophy room and talk turned back to business it seemed Klied's talk of taking over a Mandalorian base offended the girl. Strange, considering it had been her friend who made the suggestion in the first place. As she invoked her god and made another threat, the Onderonian simply smirked and took another drink from his glass. Srucayr's argument was the one he found much more convincing this time. His tone still reeked of the certain arrogance only Mandalorians possessed, and Klied was quite amused by the excuses he made for his fellows' performance in the Huttball game, but he did make a point.

"You certainly know how to pat yourselves on the back I'll give you that." He commented with a chuckle before draining the last of his glass. "And while your eternal underestimation of outsiders is somewhat disappointing, I'll grant you this: your knowledge would make things easier for me. So I'll find the strength to bear your grandstanding and accept your offer." He placed his empty glass back on the cabinet and crossed his arms.

"Now what's this about you seeking out your kind? I expect whatever you're doing to stay far removed from Onderonian affairs." Klied wasn't the most patriotic man, but he still loved his homeworld as all Onderonians did. They had a checkered past with the Madalorians, and he would in no way be accessory to renewed hostilities.

"They don't have to be mutually exclusive, but they can be." She would reply to their host, her tone decidedly non-threatening. "And a man of your experience should know well that not every fight need end in death. You can learn much more about a person by seeing what they're willing to fight for ... or not fight for ... than you can touting niceties. I have made many a friend by first cracking skulls with them." She added, flicking her eyes to Srucayr as he nodded her way and obediently moving to take one of the glasses left out for the two of them. She would pour herself a small amount of the whiskey offered and take a sip. She'd been about as offended by his comment about forcefully overtaking a Mandalorian base as he'd been about Srucayr's show of pride in the courtyard. See? Learning!

His acceptance of their offer brought a fresh smile to the young woman's lips though, hidden behind the lip of her glass. When their host set his glass down, she dutifully drained her own of its contents and set it down next to his, and at his suggestion of staying clear of his species' affairs, she gave a slight nod. "Of course."

"The back pat is from your own words, Lord Raxx. You said Dxun breeds the best warriors and its a widely accepted fact through the galaxy, that my kind are in that position, so mix that with Dxun, you give yourself harder odds. And it's not an underestimation of Outsiders, it's the acknowledgement that you have a partially trained team going against warriors who not only have a better defensive position, but have decades of training in the terrain. Simple, strategic facts. Anyone attacking a fortification they don't understand, is going to lose the fight. That's all there is to it." The War Priest would say, the decades of warring having left his own addition to the scarring upon his armor. It would be a miracle if they managed to take the base, even when the time came.

"As far as Onderon is concerned, they are not in my plans. We have kin on Dxun, a hidden base surrounded by cliffs and waterfalls. A thing I do know, is that they helped Onderonians during the Galactic Civil War. But any knowledge beyond that here, would require your intimate knowledge of your world. In addition to that, I would like to seek out any Clans hidden on Onderon, so that they can be removed to Dxun." His arms would cross. "A base, for a base and a mutual understanding to defend one another. Though, I will not call on your people unless it is absolutely necessary. I don't risk lives wantonly, not even those of Outsiders."

Klied chuckled slightly at Riye's rebuttal. It reminded him of how he had first met his now good friend Poffo Sauvage, and how their initial encounter had ended with him getting punched in the face. "Can't argue with you there I suppose..." He conceded as he raised a hand to rub his chin.

While Srucayr spoke up again, once more reminding him of the strength of Mandalorian warriors, Klied put his hands in his pockets and walked over to the nearest window, staring out at the estate's front yard, now returned to a state of relative normalcy. "I wouldn't say I know nothing about your fortifications..." He muttered mostly to himself, though expanded no further on that. As the priest went on to describe the people he was seeking the hunter squinted a bit, becoming thoughtful. This 'hidden' base of theirs sounded familiar to him.

"Ah, you're Thundertusk then." He said as he turned back again to face his guests. "I suppose I should have known. Your type are... Different, compared to other Mandos I've met." Srucayr's deal was appealing. And while this priest irked him a good deal, Klied had benefited from working with Mandalorians in the past. So long as they didn't drag him and his people into another one of their civil wars, he could see both of them profiting greatly from such an alliance. "I've seen this hidden fortress of yours. I can take you to it." He said as he walked forward. "A base for a base. I'll fight with you Srucayr." He extended a hand to shake, a formal seal for their pact. "I look forward to seeing how well you fare on the Demon Moon." He added with a grin.

The young war priestess returned the thoughtful smile of her host, visibly delighted that he'd taken her point without protest, though soon enough she was turning her attention onto Srucayr as he explained more of their plan for Dxun - of their plan for the people they meant to find there. And the ones they found here as well. She nodded along, letting her gaze bounce between the two men as she watched them discuss the specifics of the agreement.

"We can be." Riye chimed in, just after Klied commented that she and the war priest were 'different' than other Mandalorians. "But we all have the same soul." After some more discussion, and a hand reaching out for another in friendship, her smile would widen. It seemed that despite their less-than-admirable start on this estate, they were going to get the help they were looking for anyway. Mission accomplished.

Kad's will be done.

The fact that Klied had even known the basic name for the Coalition, was promising altogether, and so he would cross over to where the Onderonian was standing. "Then you know of them, even better." his gaze drifted to Riye, to let the young woman know she had been doin a good job with a single nod. "Hopefully not the same soul as those who sold theirs." he'd correct her, she was still young, she would not know the troubles that came from selling her blade.

"A base for a base." Srucayr mused, he would remove his right gauntlet and grip Klied's forearm firmly. If the Onderonian looked, he would see burn scars on the palm, as well as self-inflicted carvings on the backside of the hand. "As do I. These trophies and the fact you have navigated the Moon for many years, speaks well to your skill. Not many can kill a maalraas."
