I was thinking of buying one just to give them a try. I've heard good things from people who've had them and I can always dual boot it with linux in order to do propper programing or what not should the need arise.

Seriously though, I go to the website for 'em and it's like "Starting at only 1,299 dollars!" for a freaking laptop. Seriously I can go to newegg.com and get a brand knew notebook with the same hardware spec's for 600 bucks.

Is there something I'm missing here? Like I said, never owned a macbook before so I'm more than willing to say I'm out of the loop on this one.

No, apple somehow has been able to justify not giving you flowers for it either.

MAC OS is actualy a solid OS and one of the best, the reason the prices are so high is because 1. they are mostly used by buisnesses and schools. 2. MAC base code is not distributed out like Windows is so they don't sell millions of units in a single day, so that drives up the cost a bit, and 3. good old Supply and Demand pull shit you demand it we supply it but at the cost we want. the price tag is the only thing keeping me from getting a MAC and to be honest MAC laptops are up there with gameing laptops in Hardware department. so also factor that into the price.

That is utter bull. Mac is used mostly by casual users and SOME music producers. Most real music producers use PC's because of high end music editing programs that work for both Mac and PC. Pc's is more bang for your buck and you can actually have control of what your computer is doing in a much more controlled manner.

Mac is elitist crap.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Mac. Most of the negative crap you hear people saying is because they've never spent a long amount of time on it, or because they have no need for the OS.
I had to get a MacBook for classes. I love it, and won't go back to a normal Windows computer. Why? Because I have Windows on a partition, so my computer can do anything other laptops can, plus some, and faster.

No, THAT'S utter bull. A very high percentage of the entertainment industry is on Mac computers, and a lot of other industries are starting to use them too.
If anything, your "lolmacsucks" mentality is awful elitist. Just how long have you spent on one? Is it because you think it can't play games, or because you can't afford one?

Seriously, people who for some reason hate Mac annoy the piss out of me. It's flat out inexperience with the OS. I don't know a single person who doesn't love the OS who has spent any length of time on it.

What makes them so popular in the entertainment industry?

I am a Music Major(that's changing and the year is done Monday but I spent a year as one), in one studio we use macs and they do alright. It's the Piano studio where they're hooked up to one Piano and we work with synthesizers. We still use a PC in the Main studio and to record real performances. Macs just can't compete with the high end stuff, it's for the amateurs.

I have at a minimum 100 hours on a Mac. Using a Mac is like driving a stick shift without the gear stick. This is a fairly simple comparison, don't try and search for a deeper meaning in it.

You typically work with more editing of media, which is Mac OS's forte. Lots of suites and programs have extended versions for Mac, and most of the industry editing software for video is on Mac (Final Cut Pro and Avid, although Avid ported to Windows later on).

And I'm a media major, and we use Macs exclusively for professional work and projects. Hardly for amateurs, considering at least half of the Video Editing field uses Final Cut, a Mac only software. Web design can go either way, although Mac has any software you'd like, and photo editing is a HUGE deal on Mac computers. As for audio, I know a few sound studios who use Macs for editing. I'm not sure where you're getting the impression they can't compete, considering they obviously do.

I'm not even sure what you're trying to say here, considering Mac does plenty of things better than PC. I'll admit, Windows does plenty of things better than Mac, but that hardly means it's a better OS- it's for a different market and I use it occasionally. However, I find I can do everything I need on a Mac with a percentage of the problems I have on a Windows machine, much faster.

Final cut was made by Apple to be exclusive. :CDumb:

Speed is relative to hardware. PC's out-benchmark Macs when they have identical hardware. Saying a Mac is faster is simply false.

That's not relevant- FCP is still and industry standard and Mac exclusive. :CDumb:

There's plenty of tests that show otherwise- these really don't mean anything except proving those two instances Windows runs faster.

Oh hey, those two programs (and only those two programs) you brought up were mentioned. Fuuuunny.

Fuuuuny that the Hitachi HD they sue has faster boot speeds than the Western Digital does not. I don't think you know what you're reading when you read the benchmarks.

From the article itself:
Secondly, performance-wise, Windows 7 is probably a better choice

Win7 performs better, that's just the way it is.

Macs are the standard for music/film programs etc. They are more user friendly, and have less bugs.

PCs is for everything else.
