It would probably help with writing a little bit, but I don't think practicing things IRL necessarily makes you better at putting those techniques or movements into words.

I like the idea of having combat be decided "By the better writer." But honestly all that does is screw all of the bad writers on the Site. I'm not a good writer, and I've definitely seen people in my same situation. So really, in a way, this puts a massive handicap on some people. Quite honestly it isn't fair.

It's equal, putting all of us in the same situation. Trying to out-write our peers.
But it isn't fair to some, because some are far better writers than others.
It is the responsibility of the Faction Leaders to try to match same level sort of writers, or not. Generally I as a Faction Leader tried to pair people up with the same level. In honesty, the "better writer" sort of thing exists even now. The person who is the better writer out writes their opponent. And having real life knowledge doesn't give a person full advantage (since SW physics aren't 1 to 1) or even used. I know taekwondo but in PvP I've only put "he kicked" rather than "he used a crescent kick", etc. Everyone is free to use their skills as they can.

Sometimes IRL knowledge limits what you're willing to do because your training tells you its bad rather than your experience in RP. Additionally, people with RL training overthink the description of what they're doing, don't understand that speed and range don't work in RP like they do in RL, and are at a severe disadvantage due to the "no auto-hit" rule in RP. Someone without RL experience is a blank slate, and so learns how to fight in forum-based combat, and so someone with no RL experience might conversely be at a greater advantage than someone with RL experience.

The better writer does not necessarily always win either. They're more prone to elaborate posts and fancy flourishes, which will end up killing them. Adhering to the fundamentals, focusing on objectives, and patience are the key to winning in PVP.

For example, in real life there is a maxim "He who strikes first strikes twice" because when you swing, your enemy counters, then you swing again - you have the initiative and so your foe is forced to react until you give them an opportunity to seize the initiative. In RP, this does not exist; every player is afforded the opportunity to react and then counter-attack in each post. Most martial arts, especially hand-to-hand are focused around gaining and sustaining the initiative, which doesn't work in RP.

As someone who has no experience with Post by Post PvP, anyone have any advice for the new timeline?

The most important advice is something Saul alluded to: keep it simple. PvP fights are not the place for flowery prose and descriptive text. I would rather someone's PvP post be 3 sentences of straightforward combat information than 3 paragraphs of how the character is feeling, how the sweat is dripping off their brow, and how the moonlight shimmers against the simple blue hue of their lightsaber.
