Well today I took my first step into Muay Thai. I went to my first session of a Muay Thai class and i signed up in the end. I gotta say it was alot of fun compared to karate, which i did when i was younger, a lot less discipline and a lot more shin kicks. The first half of the class was just a non stop intense work out with a medicine ball, which i must say was probably the hardest thing ive done in my life; It was okay in the beginning, but after 25 or so minutes i started to get sick because i hadn't eaten before i came. After a few minutes a sitting out I got to punch and kick which really got my adrenalin going and the pushed me through till the end.

So i'm wondering what kind of martial arts if any you guys do?

I did Judo for two years or so, then I switched over to Karate, which I practiced for three years. Currently? Ages since I quit, but the basics stayed with me. So I know how to pack a punch and send someone flying.

Anyway, this shit is for self-defense. What more, a few lil' tricks here and there wont do you any good in reality, so you should sign up for sparring matches and get some hands-on experience. Kicking ass doesn't do you any good if you're drunk, get in a fight and manage to fracture someone's bones. Moderation is good - so immerse yourself in it properly, that way, you'll avoid hurting someone badly.

Just some... Y'know. Advice. Martial arts is king - keeps you healthy of mind and spirit.

Yeah, im gunna wait till im at least decent at it and start sparing. The place i go offers Jujitsu, kick boxing and boxing and well so i think it would be interesting to try them all out.

I did some MMA for like 8 months which basically equated to Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and then had a separate Muay Thai class. I really enjoyed the Thai class, but I still have permanent scarring/bruising from the training. (We had to kick a Thai Pad that had a thin sheet of steel behind the pad to increase your bone density in the shins.)

I did a class in Krav Maga in college as a Defensive Weapons and Tactics course; was a lot of fun I might try and find a school in it around me, but the closest I could find was a 20 mile drive and I wasn't about to make that kind of a cruise.

I looked into krav maga but the only place in tucson had really bad reviews. The only problem is its not very well known so not many people teach it.

I did Muay Thai for a little over a year and a half, it was fun as all hell and I miss it very much. My right shin is basically forged from steel because of all the shin-to-shin striking and my left is pretty tough too. I had one amateur fight which was a, erm, good experience but I haven't fought since.

I'm a massive MMA fan and have quite a bit of general knowledge on the subject. No formal training in BJJ but I know a good deal of the transitions/submissions/positions well enough to explain it to someone.

Martial Arts are awesome :D

Did Young Mu Do, Tai Kwon Do, Ju Do, and Kum Do.

Did Kum Do for only a couple days, in Ju Do, I believe I got to an orange belt, in Tai Kwon Do I got to somewhere around the brown belt, and I managed to get to Black Belt in Young Mu Do, although I had to drop it a few months afterward due to wrist problems.

Been about a year or two since I last used any martial arts, maybe more.

NOTE: Don't let your Black Belt tutor twist your wrists in ways that shouldn't be physically possible, or you may end up with a nasty medical bill and two scarred wrists from surgery... -_-;

EDIT:
Kum Do - Involves swords. That is all.
Ju Do - Throwing and grappling... It was painful.
Tai Kwon Do - Involves tons of memorization and stances; I suck at memorizing stuff.
Young Mu Do - Somewhat of a mixing pot; sparring, kicking, throwing, memorizing, self-defense, etc. Also incredibly painful, but more wrist-wise.

I was never interested in martial arts, but I'm considering looking at Taekwondo

I remember, growing up, this kid who went to karate would always want to fight me and I'd just toss him around.

Taekwondo is a sport man, not a martial art. Its fun, but i wouldn't recommend it if you want to learn how to fight, or are planning to get into fights.

Army taught me Brazilian ju-jitsu and my MP training has taught me to take down criminals. I know how to kill people efficiently.

I bet saying that last part feels a more satisfying than it should.
