Yes.

As a New Yorker, I find the lack of effectiveness in this, hopefully well-intentioned "law" to be laughable.
If anyone asks my reasons, I have them, I just don't want to spend time to write them out and look like I'm trying to start a discussion. That is simply my opinion.
Obama called on Congress to swiftly pass legislation to ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines for civilian use and to require universal background checks for all gun buyers. Obama’s proposals include mental health and school safety measures, as well as a tough new crackdown on gun trafficking.
I'm ambivalent.
Hi, I'm Matt.
I'm ambivalent. There are some decent ammo regs, but it's mostly weak tea feature stuff. I again have a hard time knowing who to side with because on the one hand, the NRA are a bunch of violence glorifying neanderthals and yet on the other hand Andrew Cuomo is a smug corporatist douchebag. Not sure which of the two I loathe the most.
Edit: I also forgot to mention the modifications to Kendra's Law. There may be some unintended mental health consequences there, but generally the tighter regulations on mental health will be good if New York can get commensurate resources to provide compassionate, humane care.
Edit ne plus ultra: NRA is complaining about the speed/secretiveness of deliberations.
To which I say this: Albany is corrupt and secretive and does what it wants. Whiny-ass babies are whiny. Come back to me when you support more open and deliberative government and aren't content to support similarly "undemocratic" and "shadowy" deliberative processes (a la ALEC in several Plains and Midwestern States) or via court activism (see Heller.)
It was a plot on The West Wing for chrissakes. You'd think Americans would at least learn to listen to our TV shows.
