If enough fresh water from the ice caps is dumped into the salt water ocean, it can disrupt the North Atlantic Current which controls what our climate is. If it gets out of whack it can bring the cold arctic air down to the warm parts of the northern hemisphere and make it a shit load colder, especially in the winter time.
