Moksha
A legend exists amongst my people, tied to the origin of the Force.

It is but a curse cast unto mortals. For the gods—great, eldritch beings who ruled over creation—played witness to our sin. Avarice and greed. Disgusted, they turned their backs on the galaxy, imposing their silence upon us. They held their voice to the dawn of history, where they gazed once more into the mortal soul. Beneath our sin, benevolence and love rested. Seeing this, the gods deemed us worthy of their favor. However, our sin would not go unpunished. For forgiveness exists only in the aftermath of retribution.

Souls are undying things. Death merely an end to physicality. Knowing this, the gods struck down our very souls, returning us to the cycle of life to suffer through generation after generation, knowing only the strife inherent of mortality. Our children weep at birth, for themselves and their ancestors, writhing under the weight of this curse.

But the curse stemmed from the hands of gods, and their divinity empowered us beyond mortal means. Untapped, it was merely that which marked our sin. The first men to realize this power were corrupted. It bore narcissism and death to us, power over our fellow man. It gave use victory and desire, fed our vanity, but never did it give us freedom. Never could it make us free. And so the curse spread through the aeons, sin etched into our undying souls.

Never shall we break free of our fetters.

Clarity materializes in the absence of arrogance. We breathe, unfettered by hubris, eyes drawn to the abyss. What lies beyond the blackened veil, we wonder, trepidation chilling our hearts. But that fear affirms our existence—it is a gift reserved for the living. Fear binds us to this life, chains our soul much as arrogance chains our mind. Conditioned mortality wearies the soul, grinding against immeasurable time, and its absence signifies but a new beginning. Life never truly ends. Death is the gateway through which we atone for the grievances carried on our souls. Only the pure gain the strength to break free of the cycle, for purity itself is power.

Mortality corrupts us, weakens us. Sin crawls through our hearts unrestrained, driving us into the throes of weakness. Hedonism. However, purity is not the absence of sin. Only in balance can we achieve salvation. Each evil must be met with an equal good. Charity for murder... a casual vice for each justice. And eventually, our suffering will end.

Biography

Born on a colony world native to the Chistori, Moksha was raised in an insulated environment where legends and superstition ruled above rationalism and logic. His mother died after giving birth to him, leaving his father alone to raise him and his two older brothers—twins, five years older than him. In spite of this, they lived a happy life, with his father displacing his grief through love for his sons, determined to give them the best he could offer. He broke down, occasionally, and beat them severely as was custom for their people, but always apologized afterwards, offering up some kind of gift as his reconciliation.

However, shortly after his ninth birthday, Moksha began to show signs of Force sensitivity. His family initially dismissed it as coincidence, refusing to believe that he could be cursed with such an evil, but he soon demonstrated his talents in front of the local council. The village, mired in eons of superstition, heralded him as a cursed being, and forced him into exile from their colony. He was cast out, shipped to a nearby colony and began his new life at an orphanage.

His stay was a short one, lasting only a few months until pirates raided the colony, and Moksha took the opportunity to leave his life behind. Filled with anger, he felt any means justifiable to reach the end he desired, and was willing to sell his soul to achieve it. Luck followed him on his journey, as the pirates decided to facilitate his stay, and he became one of their crew for the better part of the next decade.

Around his twentieth year, he left the pirates, his adolescent rage simmering down to respectable levels. He traveled the galaxy on his savings and whatever he could scrap together through the odd job whenever he ran out of funds, fervently searching for meaning. He desired to discover who he was and why he existed. Incapable of conjuring concrete definitions, he sought relief in the arms of the galaxy, finding solace in the gentle buzz of activity that surrounded him. However, he estranged himself from society, traveling to Felucia, Dathomir, and Hoth to learn about the curse that tormented him.

The condemnation of his people constantly wore at the edges of his conscience. He could not reconcile his status as an abomination with his desire to be free, to define himself through his own means. By isolating himself from society, he created an environment in which he could immerse himself in the Force, and ultimately attempt to understand its nature. His effort paid off, ending his sojourn upon the revelation that the Force was a gift bestowed by the gods to a select few; to the select few capable of breaking free of the cycle of life. The only way to break the cycle of life was to free oneself of action and desire, or achieving a perfect balance in all things. The Force was merely a means to an end. It gave one great power, and could facilitate both death and salvation in equal measure. In its natural state, it was balance itself, perfection. To break free of existence, one must relinquish oneself to the Force, attainable only through death—but death only after achieving balance in life.

He returned to society determined to enforce his beliefs, to break away from the cycle of life. Similarly, he also desired to destroy the cycle itself, but lacked the ability to conceive of such an absolute destruction—this ideology led him to the Church of Nothing briefly, but their philosophy abhorred him. Settling on Nar Shaddaa, he began to amass a network of power, involving himself in the local crime rings to further his agenda. His efforts to balance these evils led him to Unda Chor, and began his ascension through the underworld.

Dramatis Personae

UNDA CHOR An Ithorian humanitarian activist who leads a project providing relief to victims of the war regardless of spacial boundaries. A timid but articulate man, Unda Chor was raised on a Coruscanti orphanage, his own parents losing their lives in a terrorist attack shortly after his birth. Perhaps subconsciously, his desire to help others stems from an inability to reconcile his own suffering and anxiety. Similarly, he derives a feeling of superiority from his actions, believing that he has the right, if not the duty, to help others less fortunate than him. The war has become an excuse, at this point, although he stalwartly refuses to admit his self-indulgence.

KIRIL VASILIEV Age thirty-eight, salt-and-pepper hair, a map of scars along his face, most notably on his chin, lips, and just below the right eye. Standing at five feet and seven inches, he cuts a moderate figure with a fair share of stockiness under his belt. Wealth and age have treated him well, but he still knows his way around a blaster. Life taught him the value of silence early on, preferring to allow his actions to speak for him. Former mercenary and slaver, Kiril wound up in Moksha's employ after the Chistori saved his life several years prior. He lives for the credits, and death is merely a means to an end.

SERA Former prostitute and part-time assassin, this aging Togruta is a shell of humanity. She spent the majority of her life on Nar Shaddaa, where her mother desperately attempted to provide for her and her seven siblings following the untimely demise of her father. Debt ruled their lives, forcing the women of her family into servitude for a local Quarren underlord who had a taste for interracial relations. Three of her siblings died through various circumstances, and her mother followed shortly thereafter. Alone, fending for herself and four siblings—one girl and three boys—she strived for an escape, turning to drugs when she realized that she lacked the strength necessary to survive in these circumstances. The underworld led her to the employ of a particular Hutt who boasted connections and power, but ultimately failed to provide. She became his personal assassin—in multiple ways—and fled after a decade of work. Back on Nar Shaddaa, she met her current employer, Moksha, and has catered to his idealism ever since.

RAYMOND ANDROSSI Raised on the streets of Metellos in a poor family that could barely make ends meet on a monthly basis, Raymond quickly turned to crime in order to get by. As one of the few humans in the vicinity, he was often a target for bullying and assault. While he was never the strongest of kids, nor the swiftest, he had a bright mind, and a way with words. He assembled a small gang of bigger, tougher kids around him and used this artificial muscle as protection. Eventually, his small-time ring got involved in a rebellion, where Ray lost his freedom to a band of mercenaries. They used him for his pretty face and mostly unblemished figure, tossing him off on Nar Shaddaa when they were done. Still a youth at the time, the trauma crippled his sense of morality and he attempted suicide several times before resolving to destroy the lives of others as his was stolen from him. He made connections in the underworld selling spice in the spaceport and hiring thugs to run errands for the local gangs. He clawed his way through that vicious playing field until he was able to carve out a slice of paradise for himself.

AIDAN PRYDE Former soldier and mercenary. Became acquainted with Moksha through a non-affiliated contract, and has enjoyed the Chistori's employ on retainer for several months. The pay keeps him in line, and he keeps his reservations to himself.

Chronology

"That’s how you get deathless, volchitsa. Walk the same tale over and over, until you wear a groove in the world, until even if you vanished, the tale would keep turning, keep playing, like a phonograph, and you’d have to get up again, even with a bullet through your eye, to play your part and say your lines."

HALCYON DAYS — Nar Shaddaa, a dilapidated opium bar seated on the skyline. A gathering and a contract; meetings and partings.

HA! I don't even want to know how you plan on RPing this guy. He seems to believe he's the catalyst for Karma in the galaxy, yet he's a Nar Shaddaa crimeboss?

If you can pull this off I will be impressed. But then again, if anyone here can, I know it's you <3

Corellia? I read Nar Shaddaa.

If you didn't read, don't comment, that's how I play it.

As you can see, I don't read 90% of crap.

Regardless, so glad to see a Chistori.
So glad.

Oh? Do you have one, by chance?

Nearly did once, so I did a lot of research on them. I have wanted to make one myself for a long time though so do expect to see one from me after the timeskip.

Nice. I tried researching them as well, but the wiki is rather lacking. The karma aspect (and the legends, superstitions, etc.) was by my own design.
