Hey! New member with a species question! Not sure who to ask but since you're labeled the fun killing admin I figured you'd be the best pick at the moment. Love the title by the way!

Any who the race I want to play as is known as a Shard. Their not in the list of characters that are allowed but they aren't in the forbidden list either, so I'm wondering if they should be allowed or not. There are actually several reasons why they shouldn't be allowed but I thought I'd check first.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shard

Basically they are sentient crystals that capable of using droids as bodies, as long as those droids have been modified to do so. This in and of itself could cause a problem because in a battle that results in the Shard's droid body being destroyed the Shard could survive thus allowing a player to be immortal in a way, but stuck since they would be unable to place themselves in a new droid body without help. This could be avoided by simply saying that the destruction of the droid body also results in the death of the Shard.

Another thing to consider is that there have been a small handful of Shards that are force sensitive. Should this be allowed at all since if it is you could have some really crazy moments, such as an HK-50 using a lightsaber and the Force. However it could result in a lot of insteresting rp threads considering that an inorganic object using the Force is in direct contradiction to what both the Sith and the Jedi believe possible with the living Force and thus shouldn't exist.

However the final problem with the Shards is that they weren't discovered until the Galactic Republic just before the Clone Wars began. So technically in your site's time period they haven't been found yet. HOWEVER they were part of the expanded universe that has been declared no longer canon so we could bend the rules and say that they were discovered recently.

So... yeah... would I be allowed to play as a Shard or not really?

Another question is are we allowed to invent a new race altogether? My guess is the answer is no but I thought I'd ask.

While I can't answer the Shard question, I can say that yes, you most definitely can create your own race here on swrp. We actually have a board made specifically for that, located here.

I'd take a look at some of the approved sentient species to get a gauge on what it might take to get your own species approved. I know one general rule of thumb is that they need to add something to the universe that can't be covered by another race; they need to be unique. No sense making a 7 foot tall hairy, strong as an ox race when we already got Wookiees, ya know?

I'm sure someone else will be along to help you with your Shard question. Maybe @Breeso?

Hm, well I myself have no say in the matter but that is rather interesting. And to make a point, there have been droids to have been force sensitive. You remember that astromech droid in episode 4? The one that blew a fuse or something? Well in the EU it was stated that the droid had force abilities, as far as manipulating the mind of his owners to let him go free and even manipulated C3PO. Even having the ability to see a bit into the future.

That being said, it would still be up to the admins but if allowed the Shards could be interesting.

Hey there, welcome to the forum! Uh, I'll have to look at the Shards more closely later when I have a bit more time (or you could ask Clayton). However, I like the concept!

Welcome to SWRP!

It appears everyone else has already got you sorted out, at least, for now. Keeping that in mind, if you have any other questions or concerns, we at the forum are always here to lend you a hand.

Have a fantastic stay.

Welcome!

Shards are no go. Never will be.
Sorry, dude. Find another exotic species to tickle your fancy. if you need help on that front ask @Prudence

As for new species, you can post the write up on our unapproved species section of the board and one of us will get to it.

You've got all the pertinent links in your PM so cheers!

I'm amazed! Why didn't I find this site sooner???

Now the hard part... what type of character should my first character be??? I can't make up my mind sometimes!!

Hm... How about you guys give me your opinion on which one I should try?

Female Cathar Sith Lord, Tigress: A former slave, she was given the chance to become Sith when her force abilities were discovered. She failed one of the tests and was sentenced to die but after an intense battle that she won, and an accident afterwards, both convinced a watching Sith Lord to give Vash a rare second chance that she didn't waste. She became a skilled duelist but has developed a vanity issue, to the point that she uses a blue lightsaber instead of red because the red saber didn't go with her blue eyes. However she has a rather repulsive habit of bathing in the blood of her 'worthy' foes. Also, I need a lot of help coming up with a better name for her. Tigress? Seriously? When did my imagination take the day off?

Male human force-sensitive, Ayga'Ros Teraan: a young man that gets lost on a hunting trip on Tatooine This relative of the Teraan noble house on Alderaan, which he has never been to, believes he's done for when he fines a holocron in a cave next to a completely decayed Chiss corpse. The holocron was a sort of diary kept by a force-sensitive warrior named Vash'Teka Vola who started out as a Sith, fled and joined the Jedi, but finally decided that neither path suited her. It contained just about all the lessons that Vash learned and from them Ayga'Ros learned how to survive in the sands of Tatooine using both sides of the force and finally got off the planet. However when he realizes how bad the war is getting he realizes that taking the neutral ground like Vash did might not be an option for him, but he's not sure which side to join either. He was raised to be moral and ethical, but what kept him alive the most while wondering the desert was the dark side of the force. And thanks to a lack of mental fortitude due to a mild developmental disorder he's worried that he might not get the chance to make the decision himself.

Male Jawa: nicknamed Fuse from his short temper and his love of explosives, this tiny bounty hunter made a solo living for himself on Tatooine by hunting down Sand People and then working for the Hutts. No one ever saw him coming, and now with a ship of his own he is heading into the stars to make a name for himself. Typical joke character.

Though I do love the Sith, and a Jawa character would undoubtedly be hilarious as heck, I gotta personally recommend you try out Ayga'Ros first.

Just keep in mind that the force on this forum is rather black and white, so tread carefully, friend. Nonetheless, they look like a great character, and certainly one with unique potential for a myriad of storylines. Not only to mention that it'd give you a lot more liberty to explore the galaxy as a whole, so then you can check out which faction is best for you first.

Of course, you're still more than welcome to make both the other characters, as all members can have 3 characters maximum, as long as you stay in only one main faction (that being either the Sith, Jedi, or Republic).

Hope that helps!

Personally i liked your sith idea. I liked her back story and i'm also incredibly biased when it comes to aliens. So many humans in the rp that i've always enjoyed seeing more diversity

Wait... wut? Not sure if I understood that right. from the looks of it it seems as if I make my Sith character and I have her join the Sith, then that means anymore of my characters that I make will have to join the Sith? Even if they turn out to be very anti-Sith?

No you don't have to join the Sith with each of your characters. But you are not allowed to join another main faction. You could perfectly have either
Indie characters, or join one of the minor factions (if I'm not mistaken) But you are not allowed to be in two main factions at a time :)

Hey there!

Well, yes and no. There are three main factions to pick from: the Republic, the Jedi Order, and the Sith. You can only pick one, and stick with said faction. However, that doesn't mean you must stick to that faction and that faction alone with the rest of your characters. Any character is more than welcome to become an independent, or "Indie," which doesn't apply to really any main faction.

For example, if you join the Jedi Order. You can have two Jedi Knights, and then you can have an anti-Jedi bounty hunter or smuggler.

Hope that helps.
