BIOGRAPHY

Though you'd never hear him admit it, Taris was good to Ohto. Born to a nice enough and well-respected family on the surface of the planet, Ohto's youth was one of comfort and security that many on Taris only dream of. Not quite high up nobility, but he was never in danger of going hungry or moving into some storage container that never sees the Sun. While Ohto was not too far from the destitute undercity geographically, but growing up it always seemed that part of society was nothing more than a distant fantasy. When he spent his youth lazing around during the day and being dangerously irresponsible with wealthy friends at night, his status protected him from consequences without fail. Despite this, he has despised the planet for as long as he can remember. If asked, however, his reasoning for this is limited to vague platitudes and insincere societal criticisms.

Truthfully, Ohto probably would have borne a distaste for anywhere in the galaxy he was thrown simply because that was his nature. Taris was only his victim by unfortunate circumstance. Whatever his reasons, he de
sperately grasped at a ticket off the planet as soon as he was able to. His parents didn't approve, of course, but the Imperial Academy molded young Ohto from a youth who spent his time chasing flighty interests and cheap distractions into the dedicated, organized Ensign Barshe. His follwoing years of service to the Empire continued his transformation into Lieutenant Barshe of the Imperial Air Corps. Despite himself, Ohto learned a great deal during his years at the academy. Perhaps most importantly, he developed a sort of stubborn determination, which he credits to the instruction and wisdom of Zord Leeche Daskim, who is nothing short of an exemplar of everything heroic the Empire has to offer.

This was far from the only important bond forged for Ohto at the academy. Fellow Tarisian, and currently fellow Lieutenant Rax Halligan has been a useful friendship for Ohto for many years. Rax's charisma and fast talking has smoothed over more than a few conflicts Ohto's abrasiveness have caused, and while Ohto does not approve of Rax's corrupt tendencies, he is more than willing to overlook or even assist as thanks for the help he has received. Meeting at the local bar known as "The Clique," Ohto, via Rax, became associated with other Imperials such as Murith Severan and Kolar Na, both of whom he found to be quite talented in their own ways. Lastly, the being known as SumMook entered into Ohto's circle, and while Ohto found the Ugor's amorphous nature a strange thing, he quickly grew to respect the alien's industriousness and ambition.

Unfortunately for Lieutenant Barshe, he has been unable to detach himself from the miserable rock of Taris. No requests for transfer or reassignment have yet been accepted. High orbit and the odd stay on a corvette are nice breaks, but he'd rather put the place out of sight. The only part of Taris worth anything, as far as he is concerned, is a quaint little bar not far from the Academy.

PERSONALITY

Ohto comes across to most who meet him as standoffish and rude. This is not an entirely inaccurate assessment, and likely a major reason for relatively slow promotion despite a respectable service record. Still, he is not without redeeming qualities. An unyielding loyalty to his friends and allies, and of course to the Empire, is foremost in his motivations and decision-making. Far from the fickle boy he once was, Ohto's willpower is as hard as durasteel. He is not averse to hard work, although an arrogant streak will sometimes cause him to shirk duties he considers beneath him. While not doing these menial tasks, his most beloved pastime is sampling the various foods of the galaxy, the delights of which take him far from the grey walls of Imperial architecture. What Ohto detests most in the Galaxy is whatever situation that he happens to be in at that moment, regardless of what it is. As such, he is an ambitious man, believing the next promotion or reassignment will finally bring him the satisfaction he seeks.

SKILLS

Exceptional organization and a talent for numbers and money are not the foremost skills you might expect from a fighter pilot, but Ohto has honed them nonetheless. Combined with his austere life of rigid routine, this enables him to stretch the unimpressive salary of a Lieutenant significantly farther than expected. He is also quite talented as a home cook.

In the seat of a TIE Fighter, Ohto is no ace by any means, but he is as competent as one might expect an Academy-trained pilot to be. A cautious and traditional doctrine leaves him about as safe as one can be in the relatively frail TIE. While his command is not defined by daring maneuvering, his approach makes him a reliable and consistent officer, the benefits of which cannot be overlooked. Besides his piloting, Ohto is a marksman of admirable quality with a blaster pistol. His dedication to his friends and allies also extends to soldiers under his command, and as such he is well-respected by his squadron despite a reputation for disagreeableness.

APPEARANCE

Ohto attmepts to sell the bearing of a strong and decisive commander, but he is not aided in this effort by his short stature and somewhat overweight build. Nor by his beady eyes and what is left of his hair, which are both unremarkable shades of brown. He is distinguished to some degree by significant facial scarification. The scars, however, predate Ohto's military service by several years, and instead originate from crashing a landspeeder into an errant gonk droid while inebriated in his late teenage years. A remnant of his undisciplined youth rather than his dedicated service.
