Her answer never came as the door opened and the large Canthar bouncer appeared in the door with backup. Nick stiffened slightly, his hand not quite reaching for the blaster at his hip.

Thalia tried to convince the pair to let them hideout, but there seemed to be no convincing. If Roz was as ruthless as her reputation said, it didn't really surprise him. Nick finished the sloppy wrap around his ankle and painfully slid the boot back on his foot before taking her hand and standing back up.

The fact that he was even allowed to leave, spoke highly of Thalia's reputation in a place like this. Causing a scene would only get them killed, they needed to get out of here.

Within seconds, they were once again out in the rain. The daylight was fading and a long day was looking like it might turn into a long night. "Some friends you got there," Nick said, agitated to be back out in the weather. He reached for his comm. He could call for backup but that would only cause everything to escalate. A lot of people would die trying to root out the gangster from wherever she was hiding. His best bet was still to try and sneak in and handle this quietly.

"We gotta get off the street for the night," he said thinking about where they could go. If this had been Coruscant, his options would have been much wider but he didn't have the contacts here than he did back home.

As the streets grew darker the storm grew even stronger which kept the streets mostly empty. They had to hide from a couple of patrols as they passed. Knowing that they couldn't keep it up all night, Nick moved across the street to run down looking motel. It looked like it rarely had any customers, instead of going to front office, Nick went to one of the furthest rooms and pulle out a small slicers kit. It wasn't exactly by the books, but the alternative was a likely death and he couln't afford the owner tipping off Roz's goons.

He leaned up against the wall and hacked the door. After a few seconds, he was through and the door slid open. Nick stepped inside with his gun drawn, as he quickly scanned the room before replacing the blaster. "Its not much but broom closet was all booked up tonight." he said with a grin.

They left and Thalia was just as annoyed it was still raining, her already soaked clothes now felt colder, the comment that Nick made about her friends felt like it was more pointed than it needed to be and she mumbled under her breath about something pertaining to no one has friends in this world. She stuck close to him, he seemed to have an idea of where they were going as she was out of ideas. Her ship was still docked, but getting there meant going through Roz's territory.

The night came and the rain continued to fall, the sky occasionally lighting up from bolts of lightning and the rumbles of thunder drowned out their steps as they headed towards a run down motel. She started to head to the front, but realized the Ranger was instead standing next to a room, banging on the door before pulling out a slicer's kit. Thalia watched him with curiosity as it seemed someone who was straight by the book, had some rules of his own. The door opened and Nick entered first, drawing his blaster and making sure it was clear while Thalia followed inside, seemingly less concerned about others being present. He quipped about a broom closet and Thalia folded her arms.

"Tsk, tsk..." she shook her in exaggerated disappointed, "I guess this will have to do then..." she said slipping off her jacket and flipped on the radiator in an attempt to warm up and dry off. The room settled with quiet as Thalia became lost in her thoughts, trying to figure out a way to throw Roz's team off their trail, but there were questions, more specifically about the Ranger.

"So...uh...Do you have a name Ranger?" she asked, finding a starting point, "For courtesy, I'm Thalia Windraider, not much else than that." she said, "Though are you really a ranger? Is that a real badge, cuz I am starting to question why you haven't comm'd in for back up." she shrugged her shoulders.

He ignored the insincere chiding. They were out of options, and this was just as much for the owners protection as it was theirs. He wasn't above the law, but if walking that line helped him take a monster down, then so be it.

He tossed his own jacket on the table, lowering himself slowly down into a chair in the corner of the room. The lights were down low, lightning occasionally lighting up the room. He occasionally peaked out the corner of the shades that were drawn shut. There was no one outside. Maybe they would be alright until morning and could come up with some sort of plan.

Nick was silent, almost starting to nod off when Thalia broke the silence. She reminded him that they never had actually exchanged names. "Nick." he said looking out the window before turning back to Thalia. "Nick Shaw." he answered before shifitng to a more comfortable posistion. "And yeah, the badge is real." he said "That isn't what Rangers do." he responded.

"If I called for more people to come, it would only escalte things. We would be looking at all out war in the streets of the district. Innocent people pay the price when that happens." he said looking down at the floor. "I don't know who I can trust here anyways. Roz may have the local PD on her payroll." he said with a shrug. "So thats where the Rangers come in. We work alone, most of the time atleast." he said

"What about you? You never said what was so important that has kept you from bailing. Surely there are easier scores out there." he said as he kicked off his boots, eyeing his ankle for turning his attention back towards her.

Thalia remained quiet as Nick answered her questions and more importantly explained what his purpose was as a Sector Ranger. She understood his position as he explained, she knew the criminal underworld was ruthless in their methods, they were never above using others as collateral in their will for power. She recognized almost everywhere, including the very slavers who owned her parents and herself. He emphasized the work alone part, but she couldn't help but to give a coy smirk to his situation now being other than alone in his work. Though before she could ask him other questions, he turned his focus back to her, inquiring her situation with Roz.

Thalia met his gaze with a look of disapproval as she was certain she explained her business with Roz when he had her cuffed in the warehouse. She sighed and decided against that battle, "She made a lot of people unhappy lately in some bid for some jewelry that supposedly was owned by Naboo royalty after the rise of the former Empire. Many think she she cheated and now some are paying a really high price to get those gems back." she said leaning back in her seat and tilting her head backwards over the back of chair, "I could back out, but I can't make that decision now that I am associated with you and you seem to have a death mark with that maggot." She smirked.

"Terrible eh? Being stuck with a lowlife such as myself. So how are you going to stop her? Walk up and tell her she is under arrest for kidnapping and who knows what else?" asked Thalia.

He listened to her story, oblivious to the fact that she had already told him. He must have taken a bigger blow to the head than he thought.

He let out a quiet laugh at her last statement. "Nothing to brings both sides together than a price being put on people's heads." he joked. "Simple plans or a simple cop." he said with another laugh. Nick then turned his thoughts to if they could even pull this off. "We need to draw her people away from the sewer long enough to get in and out." he said, eyes staring off into the distance as he thought.

"No anyone who can help us with that? I have some funds at my disposal for use in investigations." he said. "Once we can get in, we will need to free any slaves we can and capture her before her goons catch wind of the distraction." he continued.

If he couldn't capture her and extract her, he would take the next best course of action. He could find himself in hot water if he went around killing people but that was a price he was willing to pay to take this monster out of play.

Thalia closed her eyes and listened as he spoke of his wish-washy plan to lure out the worker ants and then capture their queen. Her own thoughts turned on that idea, but it seemed like there was nothing in that plan that would lead to any sort of success. Nick asked who would be available to help and Thalia sighed, "Corellia isn't my home either, I have no one here. Tan was my only connection, but ..." she stopped and sat up with a single finger in the air to prevent him from speaking as an idea formed. The girl was silent for a moment, her eyes starring intently beyond the floor in front of her as she tried to organize her thoughts, think of its outcome.

"What if..." she paused, double checking her thoughts, "what if we don't go into her hideout." she told Nick and stood up, mumbling to herself as she further organized a plan. "If we go to try to get there, we're going to be overwhelmed and we're going to die, that is just fact. You know her crimes, we don't need to catch her in it, so," Thalia begun to pace back and forth in front of the bed as she processed.

"We lure her out or wait until she gets out. Someone like her probably enjoys luxury, credits, flaunting her wealth and power. There will be less of her goons around and if she is in public, especially around other crime bosses, they're not going to stick their neck out to help her." Thalia paused and looked at Nick giving a shrug, "You already knows she is a slaver, arrest her outside her safe hideaway for threatening a Ranger of the FWA, then send in a better armed troop to clear out her hideout, surely they'd be able to pull more evidence and hold her for more charges."

Thalia walked over to the bed and sat across from Nick, "What do you think?" she asked him, "I'm sure for enough credits Tan can drop a clue to where she likes to go in the evenings."

Of course she wasn't from here. Nothing was easy about this warrant. He sat forward, rubbing his eyes before looking over at Thalia again. Before he could speak she raised a finger to silence him.

He listened to her plan, it wasn't a bad one. They would still probably end up dead, but it at least had the foundation of something that wasn't suicide. He thought it over, scratching the stubble on his chin.

"Not bad." he said. "I still don't like our odds taking her out in the company of other criminals. Who knows who she has bought or who may just want to kill a cop out of principle," he said as he tried to build on her plan.

"We can wait until she goes to leave, take her then." he said. "You sure you trust your friend and he won't just sell us out?" he asked, not sure how he felt basing their plan of the intel of a stranger but they had little in the way of options. If she thought their odds were good with Tan, he would give her the go ahead to make the call.

He seemed to be on board with the idea, but still had his hesitations expressing concern about who else would be present and looking to add a cop to the kill list. Thalia frowned, knowing that was a very real reality and one she could not reassure that it would not happen. He suggested an alternative to take her in route to the event and Thalia's eyes widened with interest; they would have better odds taking her speeder out than showing up in a room with other criminals. He asked about Tan though and Thalia quirked an eyebrow.

"You can't trust anyone." she stated, "But I do trust the odds that it would benefit him more than it would hinder him and his club." Thalia explained and then allowed herself to fall backwards onto the bed. She starred at the shadows on the ceiling as she thought some more, "We should catch him after his shift. If we go now, we might accidentally tip off one of Roz's informants." she turned her head slightly to look at the chrono on the nightstand between the beds, "He gets done around dawn. You think we'd be safe here?"

Thalia sat back up, her eyes shifted to the window where Nick had occasionally been peeking out, "If she can, she'll continue to run us down. I've seen this before...a lot." she frowned, her thoughts fell back to the mines as she had known a few who tried to escape, but the threat of slavers never ended. To an extent she wondered if her own freedom was an illusion and really her feeling to keep moving and never settle was her intuition telling her the slavers were out looking for her.

She was right, you couldn't trust anyone and yet he found him in a spot where he had to trust this woman. For now, he would just have to continue with the fact that if she was going to backstab him, there would already have been easier opportunities.

"Safer than out there," he said with another glance out the window. He said, shifting in the chair to get comfortable. Being in the corner felt somewhat safer to him. He listened to her suggestions of waiting until morning, that was the best plan. If they went back now, they would only be endangering her friend.

He looked back towards her as she sat up in one of the beds. "I know." he said sympathetically. "Once we get the information from your friend, you don't have to continue. I can get you out of here if you want. We have guarded safe houses far out of reach of Roz." he offered as he met her eyes, her face hidden in shadows.

Nick grabbed his jacket and draped it over himself, his hand wrapped out his blaster in case they were found throughout the night. If she didn't say anything else he would drift in and out of light sleep, often keeping an eye out.

She listened to Nick explain quietly her options once they can get the information on Roz. It was an odd trade she felt especially after he was going to arrest her not hours earlier for pulling a weapon on a cop. He draped the jacket over him, his eyes closing in a much needed sleep that she knew he was fighting for since they had arrived at Tan's club. She laid back down, pulling her knees into her chest as she laid on her side. Unlike the Ranger, sleep did not come easy for Thalia, closing her eyes only met vivid dreams from her life back on the Collective causing her to wake rather abruptly several times before the last one she decided sleep was not going to be an option.

Haunted by the things she had seen herself do with the invisible energy that came from her palms, she had begun to question if she were even a safe individual for someone to be around. She struggled to hide it, control it, letting it betray her as it came at its own discretion. Glancing back at Nick who was still asleep, she wondered if he had noticed anything unusual and worried if he would tell anyone what he had seen. She even thought at the worst, maybe others saw her as an anomaly and she was unable to tell herself.

Her thoughts returned to reality at the snort of Nick snoring and Thalia turned to look at the clock noting the time. She inhaled deeply and threw her legs over the side of the bed, taking a good stretch before poking awake the Ranger.

"Hey, best we get going, he'll be getting off soon." she told him, checking to see if her own jacket had dried.

He had slept harder than he would have liked to of thought. When Thalia poked him, he jumped, momentarily forgetting where he was. His tired, bewildered eyes came into focus as his brain caught back up to his situation. "Alright...yeah." he said tiredly.

He stood, several bones cracking as he stretched. He re-holstered his blaster and slipped his jacket back on. It was just before dawn, the sky just starting to show the first hints of light. When they were ready, he opened the door slowly, peering out to see i anything looked out of place. It was perfectly still in the surrounding area. The seedy nightlife had been winding down for the last couple of hours, Nick just hoped that meant Roz's goons would be less abundant for a few hours.

Nick let Thalia direct him, constantly looking around to see if there was anything out of the ordinary. She made it seem like it wasn't far which he was glad for, sleeping in the hotel room chair had left him a bit sore. "So have you thought about what you are going to do after we finish with Tan?" he asked, referring to the offer he had made the night prior. While he didn't know what exactly she was after, it seemed unlikely she would get her hands on when they took Roz down since they were doing so away from her base.

The city had a different aura at this time of night...or morning, however one wanted to perceive it, but for Thalia, the shadows were different, throwing her off to some extent as she navigated back to the club where Tan would be exiting. Nick kept up and Thalia was glad she had him as extra eyes, he spoke up though, asking what her plan was after speaking with Tan. She thought she had answered him back at the hotel, but could not recall for certain, "We'll get Roz, I got a feeling you will be bringing her in today." she told Nick, "I was lucky to escape from slavers, if there can be one less slaver in the galaxy, the better." the girl glanced at him and slowed her pace before she stopped just short of rounding a corner to where the club is located.

Thalia took out her comm to check the time, "I don't think he left yet." she said glancing once more to the back door. She breathed in deeply and focused her attention as they waited. Moments would pass before a door slammed shut and Thalia peeked once more around the corner, seeing Tan. "Ok, here he comes." she held out an arm to keep Nick behind her as she watched quietly. As Tan neared the corner, she waited for him just to pass before approaching him from behind.

"Tan." Thalia hailed and the cather turned to look at Thalia, eyes wide with surprise to see her out of hiding.

"Baby, girl, you can't be out here, or with him, Roz is still looking for you two." he hissed, shaking his head with annoyance and perhaps almost disappointment.

"I know, we want to know where we can find her tonight. Negotiate a deal of sorts." Thalia explained, reaching into her pouch to pull out some credits. Tan remained quiet, his yellow eyes glowed as he glanced at her hand and then to Nick and back to her. He was at least thinking about it now, she knew he needed to find just the right words.

"I really can't help you Thalia," Tan shrugged, "Roz and her goons will be hitting the streets soon, heard she had a rough time at the Casino Roach , she's not going to be happy to know you two are still out and free while having bled credits all night.["

Thalia starred at Tan for a moment and then nodded, taking his palm and exchanging the credits, "I understand Tan. We never spoke."

Tan nodded and then continued about on his way while Thalia turned to Nick, "We need a speeder." she patted his chest and then walked past him, hurrying back the way they came to find a couple speeders parked for the night.

He listened as Thalia spoke with Tan, anything he had to add would only get the way of their goal. This wasn't going anywhere, he half expected to blow them off like he ha the night before but just before, he gave them the slightest hint, or at least Thalia thought so becuase she quickly ended the conversation.

He nodded at the need for a speeder. His was back near Roz's base and the entire area would likely be locked down pretty tight. Though, the tone in her voice indicated she likely meant less than legitimate ways of obtaining said speeder.

Nick took off after Thalia, pushing himself to keep up. His leg had recovered somewhat was still stiff. "I am guessing you don't mean borrow one from a friend, huh," he said as they entered a garage filled with parked speeders. Nick sighed. "I am going to get fired," he said as she found a speeder.

"We are returning this when we are done," he said in a hushed tone, looking around to make sure no one was looking.

"Um...sure...they can have it back, we just need it for a short moment." she said, hearing the disapproval in Nick's tone. She reached under the dashboard and began to fidget with some wiring until the speeder started up and Thalia got inside. Nick wouldn't even be fully seated when she took off; her skills with the speeder were sharp, turning on a credit around corners as she accelerated toward the casino that Tan had mentioned. She glanced at Nick, partially to make sure he didn't pass out from all the traffic violations that were occurring right now.

"Roz is going to be exhausted, her guards were probably on duty all night also...this may pay into your favor." she said cutting through a pass that was clearly meant for pedestrians.

"Everyone will be tried, maybe not as enthusiastic to give their best if Roz has been in a spoiled mood." Thalia reassured, "Plus they think we'll be hiding, not meeting her for a confrontation."

When they reached a few blocks ahead, she slowed the speeder, seeing the bright lights of the casino rise above the rest of the homes and businesses in the area. Thalia leaned forward some on the steering column, her eyes squinted as she attempted to get a better look. "I can't tell if that is her..." she said frowning, "What do you think?" she asked him.

He sat down and she took off. Nick cursed as he felt like he was going to be thrown from the speeder. He searched desperately for something grab a hold of. "You are going to get us both killed." he said as she took another corner, speeders having to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting them.

She spoke normally as she weaved in and out of traffic like it was no big deal. Nick was used to high speed speeder chases but he was usually in the drivers seat. Even still, Thalia took recklessness to a whole new level. There was no doubt she was skilled, but Nick would have payed nearly any amount of credits to get out.

Finally, after almost causing a 30 speeder pileup, she slowed the speeder. Nick finally started to breathe again. "You're never driving again when I am in the speeder." he said looking over his shoulder at the traffic mess she had caused in the last intersection.

They arrived at the casino Tan had told them about and Thalia pulled the speeder over. They were further down the street so it was hard to see but he finally spotted what she was looking at. The Grindalid crime boss was moving towards a large covered speeder. "Thats her." he said. "She is more gross looking than I had imagined.." he said with a twisted expression on his face. Roz was clearly not happy even from this distance.

Roz's speeder pulled out, and two speeder bikes pulled out and fell in behind them. "Alright, keep our distance for now. We need to wait until they get into less populated streets." he said

Thalia nodded after he confirmed it was Roz as she exited out of the casino, she glanced at Nick as he added his comment about how gross she looked with contorted face of disgust. "I dunno...have you seen a Hutt up close?" Thalia frowned watching the speeder take off with two bikes following from behind. She started the speeder up again, leaving behind the mess of traffic she had caused as she followed some lesser traveled byways to keep their distance from Roz. Luckily her speeder would be easy to trail at this hour, the bikes keep close by as it moved in the lines of traffic overhead and Thalia frowned, feeling a slight impatience to this stalking.

She began to pick up some speed, "Get your blaster ready." she told Nick, watching the transport holding Roz divert off course, she followed with her finger and turned the speeder to follow, however taking an adjacent course. There was a feeling the stirred inside her, one that told her the very point she would need to turn, though for Nick, what it seemed like was Thalia was going in the wrong direction while increasing speed. She took a turn, making a rather unorthodox cut through a skeleton of a high rise and out the other side, jetting through a space in the traffic and cutting across the front of the speeder bikes that were following Roz.

As the bikes spun out of control, it left the worm's speeder open as Thalia looped their speeder back around, now aiming for Roz. They would only have minutes before any help would arrive for the criminal.

They followed from a distance for a few minutes. Thalia clearly growing impatient. "Just a little further," he said but Thalia ignored him and slammed the speeder into motion.

Another round of curses came from Nick as they sped towards the group. He gripped his blaster. "This is stupid." he said more to himself than to anyone else. Expecting to engage with the group, Nick was shocked when they passed by and started heading in a completely different direction. Thalia had clearly lost it. "What are you doing?!" he said pointing back the other direction. "They went that way!" he said but she continued to ignore him.

He looked forward just in time to see them screaming towards the base of one of the sky scrappers. "Thalia....slow down...THALIA!" he shouted as they broke through a gate and zipped through the underbelly of the building. They almost died at least ten times but she managed to just barely miss every obstacle.

Seconds later, they exited the building and slammed into the speeders they had been following a moment ago. Nick let out a grunt as she spun the speeder around to follow Roz. "We will have to transport her out of here in her own speeder." he said switching his blaster to stun. "Pull up beside her." he said.

As they did, a door slid open and one of her guards popped out and shot two shots towards them. They buzzed just passed them and Nick returned fire, striking the man who slumped forwards and fell out on to the ground below. Roz's driver slammed the speeder into theirs. "Alright hold it steady." he said as he stood. He braced himself as another slam shook the speeder before he leaped through the open door. Roz was yelling in some language he didn't know, but he quickly shot her twice with two stun rounds which he hoped would keep out for a bit.

Just as he was about to deal with the driver, the speeder swerved again, and Nick was nearly thrown out the open door. He just barely caught out to something in the speeder but still teetered on the edge.

The corner of her mouth curled into a grin as she hit the accelerator, now following at least one of Nick's suggestions to get close enough to Roz's speeder. They would certainly have to take her in her own speeder, she was certain the owner of this speeder would not like her worm goop slathered on the seats. Then again, she just caused several thousand in front end damage and as she had grind the speeder along side Roz's the cost of a paint job would need to be added. Nick was not going to like they couldn't possibly return the speeder after this.

Thalia let out a yell of surprise as the door had opened on the speeder, revealing one of thugs. He fired shots at Nick who returned fire, striking him with accuracy and leaving his body to slump onto the streets meters behind them. The speeder then swerved as the driver rammed into Thalia, she gasped, working to keep control of the vehicle as she threw the speeder back into Roz's. She held steady long enough for Nick to jump inside and take care of Roz, firing his stun bolts.

Thalia quickly swerved the speeder, avoiding a rear-end collision with a slowed speeder on the path. She quickly sped up, catching up but the driver swiftly threw Roz's speeder back into her own, causing Nick to lose balance, teetering on the edge as she tried to keep the speed aligned. The driver tried to shake Nick off, violently jerking the speeder once more to get him to release his grip.

"No! Nick!" Thalia yelled out as she extended her hand, the Force released from her palm, hitting Nick hard enough to return him safely into Roz's speeder. Though as she turned her attention back to the road, it was enough of a distraction to leave her without enough time to avoid another speeder, crashing hard into its back end. She felt her head smack hard against something solid and her world immediately spun as she tried to push herself to continue, only to fall out the side of the speeder.

Just as he was about to fall, something slammed into him and pushed him back inside. He fell against the unconscious body of Roz, arms twitching around. Nick felt his stomach turn as he pushed himself up.

He heard the crash behind him, turning to see Thalia's wrecked speeder. He had to go back for her. Roz's men would tear her apart when they finally caught up to them.

He took his blaster and held it to the driver's head. "Stop the speeder!" he said, clicking the blaster back to its lethal setting. "You so much as put a toe on the accelerator or turn the wheel any and ill paint the inside of this speeder with your cooked brains," he said pressing the blaster harder.

The man glanced back at him in a rearview mirror before finally starting to slow the speeder. "Okay okay." the man said in a shaky tone of voice. "Chill out, man. I've got kids." he said as the speeder came to a halt and he held his hands out. "Get out! Go!" Nick shouted and the man quickly obeyed.

Nick turned the speeder around and sped back towards the wrecked speaker. As he climbed out, Roz was starting to stir so he shot her with another stun bolt and she slumped back down. He found Thalia several feet from the wreck on the ground. "Thalia, are you alright?" he asked running up to her. They needed to go, Roz's goons would be here any second.

He reached down and picked the woman up and carried her back to the crimelord's speeder. They rushed away from the scene and Nick called for backup.

The next few hours were a blur. With Roz out of the picture, local security forces swarmed in on her hideout and her gang scattered. They recovered millions of credits worth of drugs and a group of slaves that had been destined to be sold off. Nick felt like he needed to sleep for four days but went to check in on Thalia who had been taken to a hospital.

"How is she doing?" he asked the nurse as he stepped into the room.

Thalia had lost track of time and where she was; at one point, she thought she had heard Nick, then there were others, faces she did not recognize, blurring into the realms of reality and fantasy. Though when she came too, she was startled by where she was not expecting herself to be. Her head and body throbbed though and as she tried to turn to roll out of the hospital bed, she took the IV line with her. The commotion had prompted the nurse aid droid to find someone who rushed to reassure that Thalia was safe. She of course did not want to be there regardless of how badly she was hurting and quickly removed the needle that was stuck in her arm against her better judgement.

The nurse left in a huff, failing to convince her patient to stay and rest and unfortunately ran into Nick who was legitimately concerned about her well-being.

"Oh, she thinks she is doing fine in there. Enter at your own risk." she stormed away to finishing charting at her station. When Nick would enter he would see Thalia gathering her clothing and belongings.

She looked up, expecting to be another nurse or doctor, but was taken aback when she saw Nick. Her eyes widened with surprise and her cheeks reddened as she quickly grabbed the back of her gown, closing any gaps.

"Nick! You're here?" she asked, but suddenly her eyes narrowed, the thought he had returned to arrest her for their initial encounter, "What are you doing here?" she asked once more with more suspicion in her voice, her head tilting slightly as she waited for his response.
