Affiliation:

Ownership:
Phèdre nó Delaunay

Intent:
The Oracle is the brain child of Phèdre. Out of boredom, she decided to create a system specifically designed to hack into any nearby network. The Oracle has four purposes. The first purpose is data retrieval. Once she has unrestricted access to a data network, she'll look for any bits of interesting data. The second purpose is data manipulation. Data manipulation is most often used to hide her presence or remove any evidence she was even there. The third purpose is defense. Phèdre is not a skilled fighter, and so relies on misdirection. The fourth purpose is for mischief.

This is not intended as some magical hack-all device.

Model/Name:
Oracle

Type:
Oracle is a custom built super computer designed by, and built by, Phèdre.

Power Supply:
The Oracle has a small internal power source, capable of powering the device in a standby mode for 24 hours. The device relies on external sources for power when operating at full capacity.

Size:
Oracle is 3 feet tall, 2.5 feet long, and 1 foot wide.

Composition:
The outer case is hardened against EMP and is made up of normal computer parts found in any military built super computer.

Description:
Designed and built by the sole owner, the Oracle system is the home of Shade and a super computer packed with hacking software. The case design is fairly simple, just a large metal box painted matte black. The case itself is thick and sturdy, hardened against EMP blasts and minimally armored. The back of the case has several large plugs for connecting to her ship, and the front has a kick ass glowing light that changes color. It looks big and intimidating, and totally *bleep* cool.

Despite its small size, it's processing ability is equal to that of a much larger super computer. This amazing bit of technological wizardry was accomplished by the amazing and talented Phèdre. The computer is home of the Super Awesome Self Aware AI called Shade, and assists his mistress in her adventures within cyber space. Already a super hacker, with Shade helping, Phèdre's hacking skills becomes much more bad ass.

By reinterpreting data, Oracle displays a virtual world to Phèdre's eyes, making hacking more intuitive, and a hell of a lot of fun. To further increase immersion in her virtual world, Phèdre wears custom made goggles and gauntlets. The goggles act as a screen, displaying the virtual world created by Oracle. Sensor's in the goggles detect her head's movement, and Oracle interprets the movement, translating it into movement in the virtual world. The gauntlets she wears are totally bad ass and strike fear into my enemies. Although they look soo cool, they're not as useful as they appear. Made of lightweight material, providing minimal protection, the gauntlets contain the same sensors as her goggles. The gauntlets allow her to "interact" with the virtual world, again, Oracle interpreting movement, and translating it into the virtual world.

Aura Goggles

Trick or Treat

Oracle is the pinnacle of hacking technology. Excelling in both offense and defense, there's no system it can't hack. Well, almost none. Okay! Military has some decent counter intrusion software, and some of those private corporations have decent stuff too. Anything else? Hah, may as well not even be there. There's nothing I can't hack into with Oracle, given enough time. If I'm extra careful, and take my time, I can hack into even military networks. One wrong step however, and I'm made. Of course, once I'm in, it doesn't mean I have the run of the place. I still have to be careful to avoid tripping any alarms. Big flashy stuff, like turning off life support or overloading the reactor, tends to draw the attention of the automatic defenses.

The auto defenses are really *bleep* cool to watch. Big flying monsters purifying the virtual world with fire, returning it to its default state. The civilian auto defenses are especially fun to watch. Not as bright as their more advanced counterparts, they tend to make a mess of things, both in the virtual world and the real world. They're not full proof. If I move quick and dirty, I can do what I came to do before they have a chance to undo whatever it is I did. That leaves traces, traces that can be followed back to me, if they have decent counter intrusion software, or a hacker. It's all about what you change, and how you change it.

Big important systems, like weapons and life support, are generally more dangerous to fool around with than other systems. The less important systems aren't protected as well, such as comms. It takes skill and finesse to do what I do. Spoofing systems to make it seem like they're working, when they're really not. One of my favorite things to do is to insert a bug into ship sensors. All the bug does is make it so I disappear from their scanners. From one system I can leap frog into another, reaching any system that is connected to the network. Of course, anything physically separated from the network I can't hack, but that goes without saying.

Hacking into nearby networks is a cinch from the ship. I just piggy back onto the data stream and blow past the firewall. Past a klick the stream starts to slow down, creating lag. At 5 klicks there's significant lag, not enough to make hacking impossible, but enough to slow things down. Past 10 klicks, things become impossible, I have to rely on worms and prebuilt bugs to do the work. That's only really an issue in space, where there's lots of nothingness between ships. On a planet, I have something special.

Byte

When not on the ship I bring along Byte, my backpack. It's less of a back pack then it is a miniature version of Oracle. With it, I can hack into any system with its universal smart plug. Just need a terminal or data access point, and boom, I'm in! Byte works with Aura and Trick or Treat, but in an emergency I can use a fold-able keyboard and screen stored in the bottom. The pack is EMP shield and also lightly armored, which makes it fairly heavy. Luckily, I'm not some weak human, so I don't have any problems toting it around. Shade doesn't really like the backpack, says it's too cramped in there, but he doesn't like to let me out of his sight. He can be very protective sometimes.

If we're in a thread together, and you're worried about what sort of defenses your ship/base/whatever has, let me know. We can work out something together. This is not intended as some magical hack-all device.

After talking it over with Jiang, he said there wasn't any reason for the ship. The only thing that really needed a write-up was Oracle itself. So here is the write-up for Oracle.

Alright, wrote a bit more. Tell me what you think of it now.
