Jin leaned back, draped an arm over the top of his cushioned seat, and listened as the Chancellor backpedaled. He despised that Emil was giving into the opposition so easily, but he supposed they had no other choice. The Senate was divided cleanly in half. While they could have shot down proposals with a tie-breaker, it would play out poorly in the public, and the Chancellor’s reputation was already battered as it was. He must have wanted an end to this crisis. Which was fair. Jin was equally tired of this whole bureaucratic circus as well.
He was so tired of hearing these speeches, and tired of making them, too. He wished nothing more than to return to his homeworld, to Fondor, and address the ongoing economic issues that had come with the recent sanctions. Another nightmare he was not keen to endure, but that was his job as Senator: to clean up other people’s messes. Including his own.
“Let the record show I do not approve of the Jedi running amok around key Core worlds, but I understand the Sith is a far greater threat to the continued stability of Fondor and the New Republic. They must be stopped at all costs. With that in mind, I vote yes to the original proposal and compromise provided by Chancellor Ro.” He nodded once, to the Speaker and Emil, then returned to his seat. He had made the right choice by standing beside the Chancellor, but could the Jedi be so readily trusted?
Jin supposed he would see soon enough.
