I've been knowing these two here for years, and I am basing this off of what they have posted in the years. Besides, you should know by now what I've said is not much of a stretch. I'd appreciate it if you stopped talking to me and replying to my posts. Kthnx.

Kthnx nothing. You're here in the thread with me as well as I am here in this thread with you. Now I did edit my post with "IMO" so calm it down.

I lost my christianity over the course of about a year. And no matter what you may believe I felt a strong pull towards the gods of Asatruism.........and that's my belief. So I would like it if you wouldn't insult me further. Same for Sheo.

No insults intended here, how did you lose your Christianity and get pulled to Asatruism? How did you discover it? I'd really like to know. I personally think getting 'pulled' into near-extinct religions or pop culture revived ones not too real. I am sure you can understand my sentiment.

Just gonna put this here. I think we're all guilty of forgetting about it, so let's all take a moment to read it one more time.

Doesn't apply to just this thread, but this one seems as good as any to make note of it.

Indeed. I am trying to keep as civil as possible. I just dislike when certain users, the same one(s) over and over again come into my threads and keep at me, despite the fact I make it perfectly clear I want interaction with them.

Look dude, I already apologized for my past transgressions with you. I feel that I rectified that past post well enough and things are still pretty civil.

I lost my faith in chrisianity because I cannot believe in the christian god.....Looking at it after thinking independantly about things and not believing everything I've been force fed over my life I realized that an all caring god who is all knowing and all powerful and fully benevolent....but still willing to say **** YOU YOUR'RE GOING TO HELL! is impossible. I cannot accept that there isn't a higher power of some sort however. I did research into other religions and I felt a strong emotional pull towards Nordic paganism. I can't really explain it that well....it just feels right.

I love it when people pick a religion as if ordering a dish in a restaurant. It's faith À la carte.

"Hmm...I'll just browse wikipedia and see which one fits me!"

Not going to lie, I honestly think Niner and Sheo are just bandwagon jumping. This is literally no reason they should have gone from:

no god at all and staunch athiest -> weekly attending church Catholic -> Pagan

or

Staunch Catholic -> agnostic/athiest? -> Pagan

In a two month window. No way.

It wasn't over a two month window. It was over the course of a year and a half, furthermore you have to have not been apart of whatever the wagon is before hand and have a bandwagon on which to jump.

Bandwagoning: the phenomenon of a popular trend attracting even greater popularity.

So, here's the deal, paganism has to actually be popular in order for it to be bandwagoning. Of the entirety of the world around 1 million define themselves as pagan or neo-pagan. Of Asatru there is literally only about 6,000 practitioners world wide.

So not only is SIN insulting, he's wrong, as are you.

Year and a half? You were still attacking religion earlier than that.

Of course, on here. That doesn't mean I share what's going on in my personal life or in my head with everyone here. I continued my arguing because it was what I was familiar with, and I was arguing as much with myself as an opponent, I assure you.

Edit: Sorry, didn't see your post there Bac.

I'm curious, of our pagan SWRPers, how many of you actively practice your newfound religion? And what you do in such circles? I'm taking "the Secular and the Sacred" for CORE classes, and I'd like to understand more about people's modern beliefs and practices.

I'm not completely sure what you mean by 'actively practice'. I'm not involved in any group, if that's what you're asking - I think religious beliefs should be contemplated and decided upon by each person independently, for himself or herself.

@Sin: Stop being such an asshole please. I couldn't care less what you think of me or my beliefs, but you're a staff member here and it makes the site look bad when you have no respect for other people.

I mean, do you go to ceremonies/events involving paganism? Do you follow traditions that were drawn by pagans?

I'm all for finding whatever makes you happy, but if you aren't following the practices of your religion... you're essentially being a theist who doesn't want to conform with the popular religions.

I'm not sure calling anyone an extremist within the confines of religion can be done in a respective manner.

There are definitely situations where being called an extremist would be respectable. At least within one religion, being full of zeal for your God can be seen as a good thing. Even outsiders could appreciate the level of devotion in certain instances. If one were to give all their money to the poor and follow a holy man, they could still be as a virtuous(and possibly deluded if one does not agree with the particular holy man) and certainly, they'd also be an extremist considering their level of devotion.

I've never been to a ceremony or event; as I said, I don't want to get involved with organized religion. As for following the traditions, I wear a Mjolnir pendant (or occasionally a 'valknut') and that's about as far as it goes.

While you seem to be trying to put a negative air around it, a 'theist who doesn't want to conform with the popular religions' is exactly what I am. In fact, I'd say this describes just about any religious person who doesn't blindly follow the dogma of some church, temple, cult, or whatever.

I am with Viggy on this one. As for traditions....well I have tattooed runes that have significance to me on my arm....and there are a few other tattoos I have planned.
