I actually do like the notion of Palpatine having a recognizably Roman sounding name, or perhaps even a Germanic one.

Acilius Palpatine, Lucilius Palpatine, Marcus Palpatine, Ricimer Palpatine, Lucius Palpatine, Decimus Palpatine, Aurelius Palpatine, Licinius Palpatine.

Those all actually sound kind of good to me tbh, although given the comically ridiculous nature of a bad guy being named Palpatine in the first place, almost nothing will sound that good in the first place.

When I was working on my Alternative Saga, I went with Lucius Palpatine.

Ricimer Palpatine

Have to say, I like this one the best. Sounds "foreign", not of our world sorta like obi-wan, while also sounding pronouncable and intimidating.

Sheev...I honestly don't know how to pronounce it. Like, is it like Chevy without the "y"? Or is it more like the prison weapon Shiv? Is the h silent and its actually Seev, like Seeve the pokemon?

 It makes no sense.

I like Marcus or Aurelius Palpatine.

Marcus is distinctive, noble. Aurelius is distant, but royal and commanding but also not too farcical and cartoonish. So for my rewrites I could have had a young Machiavellian Senator/Politician named Marcus *Something*, who upon winning over the Republic decided to take up his original family lineage name of Palpatine. There was a lot of that in those rewrites, subverting audience knowledge of the material with differing names. John Skywalker being another example, with Anakin being a Jedi name he takes up later.

My name is Maximus Obi-Wan Kenobius, Commander of the Clone Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant of the true Emperor, Marcus Aurelius Palpatine, father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my vengeance, in this world or the next.

I did my best to not snort. Now I have water stains all over the desk.
