Hello everyone! I hope the title caught your eye. I am interested in trying to use some fleet assets and my Mandalorian characters to start a small indie faction called the Rancor Squadron. I think it will have a bit of "Phoenix Squadron" (from Rebels) vibes and goals with a bit more Mandalorian flavoring to it. If you think you might be interested in threading with @Hauron Solus he will be my main PC that is going to be working to improve Rancor Squadron while his dad, @Kotii Solus does his best to support him and work on his own issues off to the side.

If you are NOT a Mandalorian, don't worry! You can still join this Squadron! Are you force sensitive? Also don't worry! Are you a droid? Come on over you bucket of bolts we'll take everyone!

Please take a look at the writeup below and provide feedback. I plan to submit this if I can get enough interest. Thank you.

GENERAL

  • Rancor Squadron or "RANCOR SQUAD!" is a small but growing and elite squadron of Mandalorians. It may be more appropriate to call them a small fleet but they have yet to grow significantly in size. They are a primarily a mercenary outfit that travels the outer rim working escort missions, bounty hunting and more. They travel to dangerous locales as soldiers of fortune risking their health and wellbeing in an effort to claim prizes. However, more often than not, they will travel to a location in order to study and claim artifacts for themselves. They are known to be picky when it comes to choosing jobs.

The truth of the matter is that Rancor Squadron is a breakaway group of Mandalorians that disagreed with the Sith Empire and stood against Fenyang and his successor, Nox Solus. This has led to many of Rancor Squadron consisting of what some Mandalorians consider 'dar'manda'. In their own eyes these Mandalorians are freedom fighters and rebels unwilling to quit or give up in the face of adversity.

  • To know the history of Rancor Squadron one must know what came before. The ever mobile Rancor Squadron gets its name from its founder having a Rancor as a pet. Both Kotii Solus and Hauron Solus traveled Mandalia and recovered eggs from a Rancor nest prior to the schism in the Mandalorian community. In the following years they raised these beasts to be mighty steeds. Now it is all who join them, that can "ride the rancor" and be a step closer to the Mythosaur riding ancestors.

Kotii Solus was the leader of the then Werda Verda (archaic translation of "shadow warriors"). He had a
reputation for hating slavers, spice and Sith which he attacked using House Solus during his time as their leader. While he managed to assassinate a Zyggerian monarch and decimate their Royal Palace with a bombing involving a explosive laddened GR-75 transport, this only stifled slaving operations in the short term.

Kotii Solus would lead a group of Mandalorians in a loose warband however many of them still did not fully accept Kotii as their leader and went their separate ways. The ex-Solus Alor
attempted to kill @Nor'baal Desilijic but was gunned down along with scores of his followers. Kotii was the lone survivor of this masssacre and was imprisoned as a result. Once learning of this, his son coordinated with Jedi forces and planned a rescue mission. Breaking his buir out of bondage was one of the first steps to starting over.

Having accomplished some level of stability and consolidating what was left, they had to start over. Many Mandalorians had lost faith in Kotii and needed to take care of themselves and their immediate loved ones. The Werda Verda were fractured and no more. Thus, Hauron made an effort to reach out to those who may still be willing to help or in need of it themselves. In the process the young Mandalorian became friendly with members of the Jedi Order after the battle of Onderon. Furthermore he secured the three corvettes and a carrier that would be the first capital starships of Rancor Squad and their new homes.

Thanks in part to long standing relations with the Wookiees of Kashyyyk, Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl has secretly granted permission for Rancor Squadron to set up three bases on Kashyyyk's moons. With a base on each moon Rancor Squadron is also in close proximity to Dosh, and help defend the system against future threats. These bases are a new home for those not traveling with the fleet and are a quickly becoming a source of identity. As many Mandalorians have ties to Concord Dawn and its many moons, they find living in Kashyyyk's system a different but welcome change.

    Threads of interest/importance:
    • Auction (Ship acquisition)
    • Founding (TBA)
    • Networking (TBA)
    • Rancor Recovery (TBA)
    • Training (TBA)
    • Recruiting (TBA)

  • Rancor Squadron at the surface level can seem like a cold mercenary outfit that only is hired for jobs that involve danger and violence. However Hauron Solus and the members of the Squadron have deep ties to their Mandalorian heritage and still hold the values of their people highly. Hauron himself had been sold into slavery before being rescued by Mandalorians and therefore he shares in his father's hatred for it. Sometimes they will even consider discounts and waving fees ordinary PMCs would require just for the sake of gaining intelligence on where slaving operations are occurring. Fighting an army may cause a member of Rancor to double their price, while fighting a slaver may cause them to fight them for free.

While Rancor Squadron is organized and structure in a military fashion, it is closer to a family. Members are free to leave and carry out personal business but they rely on one another to make it through the galaxy together. Life his hard and the leadership of Rancor Squad has at least tried to keep an open mind, allowing new foundlings and members to join.

There is no hard restriction on the type of work that R.S. is willing to accept as long as it pays well and is not ethically compromising. In fact they are trying to only accept humanitarian and non aggressive jobs. This is both to improve their budding reputation for future clients, but also to instill the values in new members of the squadron that may not have the same degree of morals.

  • While most Mandalorians acquire and maintain their own armory of weapons and equipment, Hauron has made efforts to donate his family's coffers to the cause. While not vast, this helped acquire a handful of ships, weapons and supplies that are essential. A portion of all work goes towards the Squadron to maintain assets and processes such as licensing so that they can operate legally in various parts of the galaxy.

Donations are heavily appreciated and relied on for growth. High paying jobs are often highly risky and end up costing the squadron a lot. They do not hesitate to use their fuel to chase down a target or move their ships into the line of fire to protect a ship their escorting. But this leads to more repairs and longer periods in the docks. With just the beginnings of a Private Military Corporation starting they are pinching credits but ultimatly making it work with the good grace of its members and allies. Most members have the following personal belongings or are otherwise provided to them by Rancor Squadron after joining. Often members daub their armors in colors of red, black, orange and white but many Mandalorians fly their own colors with the Rancor sigil painted somewhere on their craft or armor.

  • Non-Mandalorians, A.K.A. Dar'aruetiise can increase in power level and gain more renown supporting Rancor Squadron but they will never be given a rank beyond dar'aruetiise unless they take on the Mandalorian lifestyle.

    [Rank 0] Verd'ika
Many Mandalorians are born into their way of life or are adopted into it at a young age. When it becomes clear that someone wishes to pursue a life as a Mandalorian in Rancor Squadron they begin their training as a verd'ika. Some people are adopted into this way of life as Verde but others get an early start. Verd'ika are often trained by their direct family on the basics but participate in group missions. Lower stake jobs and training are used to wet the feet of the next generation of Mandalorians and get some real world experience before earning their independence as warriors in their own right. Verd'ika is the equivalent to the rank of Private for aruetiise.

    [Rank 1] Verde [Starting Rank]
These are the members that fill two primary roles, armorers and warriors. Both fight and perform duties in and out of combat. This is often the starting rank for many who join Rancor Squadron as an adult. However some choose to become foundlings earlier on in their lives as children. Foundlings are often trained along side the Verde with more supervision and caution. Verde officially hold the rank of Alor'uus, or the outsider's version of the Corporal rank.

    [Rank 2] Al'verd / Ver'alor
After some extensive effort and perhaps luck, verde that prove themselves capable earn the rank of Ver'alor. This means they are not only capable fighters, but leaders and skilled individuals in their respective fields. Often soldiers will take on the title of "Rally Master" if they are focusing on the path of the warrior or "Forge Master" if they are focusing on the path of the armorer. The translation for Ver'alor in Galactic Standard Basic is Lieutenant. Sometimes if given command of a particular mission, a Ver'alor may outrank an Alor'ad if decided by the Tsad'alor. In this case, the Ver'alor is called 'al'verd' or "commander" as they are the lead officer in charge. Captains and the group leader can also be referred to as the "commander" so long as they are the sole leader in charge of the mission.

    [Rank 3] Alor'ad
Earning a bit of a unique reputation by this point, Alor'ad or Captains are responsible for commanding a capital ship or numerous starfighters. Often these are Mandalorians that have earned the title of "Alor" in their own clan and gained the respect of their community. These leaders are true freedom fighters and understand the goals of Rancor Squadron. Alor'ad may even lead groups on extended missions apart from the main Squadron. They make up the unofficial "War Council" and provide tactical insight and wisdom to the Tsad'alor. The rank of Alor'ad translates directly to "Captain" in galactic standard basic.

    [Rank 4] Tsad'alor
Considering the size of Rancor Squadron, there is only a need for one group leader at this time. The responsibilities of this individual consists of directing and managing the entirety of Rancor Squadron. If the squadron were to grow in significant size and number then there could be multiple Tsad'alor, each responsible for a battle group. Thankfully a Group Leader can rely on their al'verde to provide wise council. They need to be the face (or helmet) of the squadron when dealing with clients that are outsiders. The Tsad'alor is more than just a leader of a single clan, they must bring multiple families together and know how to lead them through a warring galaxy safely and successfully.

  • Every foundling is raised to survive in a dangerous galaxy. Wilderness survival and navigation, first aid, self defense, arithmetic, strategy, and more are learned at a young age. If members join Rancor Squadron as adults they learn in due time before they are given responsibility. It is up to each and every member of Rancor Squadron to protect one another and defend it if need be. Dar'aruetiise often are working alongside the group because they have an appealing skillset and professionalism that allows them that freedom. If additional training is needed for unit efficiency before a job they may run drills with outsiders but this is usually all there is. Even trusted outsiders are still outsiders in the eyes of the insulated and isolated Mandalorians.

Upon gaining the rank of Verde, a Mandalorian may choose what type of path they wish to follow. They can be and Armorer, or a Warrior by following the path of Beskar or Beskad respectively. Some may even follow each path for a time before settling on one. Many Mandalorians are encouraged to learn multiple languages so they can communicate. Diplomacy and de-escalation courses are reinforced with those interested in leadership positions.

The various skills that a member of Rancor Squadron picks up only increases with time. Working alongside various organizations and traveling the vastness of the galaxy allows them to the opportunities to experience dangers and wonders alike that, for better or worse. Many members of Rancor Squadron are specially taught methods of fighting force sensitives, AMS infected or assaulting enemies under water or in climate extremes.

The following are weapons and equipment that members of Rancor Squadron are highly familiar with:

    Vibroblade.
    2x (relevant) Grenades or explosives.

INTENT

This organization will be the faction led by my character @Hauron Solus and grow as their front for other operations. While they seem like a simple PMC they are really a rebel cell focused on fighting the tyranny of dark siders and slavers. Similar to how Phoenix Squadron started small and independent. We will see where this goes.

I totally stole this format from @LilyNion

Throw @Bel in there. He's a Sith rn, but he's going to cut ties with them to figure himself out.

@Hit Bug is not a Mandalorian, but he can use a gun to shoot things and would like to do more of that. Consider him interested.

Awesome! Glad to see the interest. I'm continuing to make edits to it in my workshop and will submit an official writeup before long.

Things I'll add are a roster and also a relations section.

Rewards, I'm curious to hear what you all want as faction rewards. Furthermore I'm wondering if there should be a separation between Mandalorian members and non-Mandalorian members but I may discuss that more on Discord.

This week IRL has been busy otherwise I would have probably already submitted something by now. Thank you for your patience.

I've updated the writeup and I'm debating if I should add a "Legality" section or just omit that for the time being since it probably doesn't matter too much at the moment. Let me know what you think please!

I'll switch out Bel for @Reddick Vanguard if that's alright!
I'll make the adjustment.
