Composition and Appearance:
Tall and proud, with a noble air. Relana Isolde Tanoor is the epitome of elegance. A svelte body befitting royalty, Relana is a beautiful(Some would say handsome) woman. She has an olive complexion, and her bearing is strong and stern. Her hair is held back with a gold circlet, and then fans out across her shoulders. Her eyes are near silver, hinting at Arkanian in her heritage, although both her parents were human. She wears a silver-gold lipstick and silver eyeshadow, giving her an almost metallic look on her skin in the right light.
She wears long, flowing dresses, fitted to her body to show her angelic features. She most often wears sombre, cold colours, and she has distinct hand-raps that crawl up and loop around her middle finger. Her hands are adorned with various rings of different sizes and value, but are very simple. She has a tall bearing, at about six feet, much taller then most women and even men. However, she is thin, befitting her angelic figure.
Her stare is intense, which she has developed to an art form, and uses it to no ends in the Senate. It has become so well known in the Senate that allegations of treason have been bequeathed because one could not speak truth in her gaze. Her bearing is overwhelming to most, and as such she is not easy to become close to. In essence, she is the perfect politician.
Personality:
Relana had grown up in a very aristocratic and closed family on Corellia, her homeworld. As such, she was raised apart from the average Corellian, and along with her sister Linora, were taught that Corellians were a cut above the rest of the humans, especially the Coruscanti. She is very intelligent, having been taught by the famed Alderaanian scholar Darik Balc. She is very adept in the art of statecraft, something she discovered early on in her life.
She is estranged from her mother and father, who shunned her when she married an Alderaanian, thus breaking the Ensterite of her family. The only family she stayed close to was her sister, Linora, who she could not see often, due to her involvement in the Jedi Order. She isn’t easy to get to know. She has effectively distanced herself due to her political involvement and is wary of almost all she meets, wondering what they’ll gain by acquainting themselves with the Chancellor.
History:
Born to a family belonging to the Ensterite sect of Corellian culture, she was raised in a closed, very select group. Forbade to have any relations with off-worlders, she grew up with a prejudice of Corellian superiority. Her sister, the only one of her family who she really connected with, was taken by the Jedi when Relana was only eight. Her sister was only five, and dreadfully frightened(To be expected, really). After her sister left, she was forbade by the Jedi to see her, and they didn’t meet again until Relana was eighteen.
During those ten years, Relana was tutored by the famous Alderaanian Darik Balc. Darik taught her many traditional subjects, as well as etiquette and other lifestyle subjects. At the age of sixteen, Darik discovered Relana’s talent in statecraft, and began tutoring her in all the little obscurities of the craft. She continued her tutoring until she was twenty-one, when she was elected to the Corellian Legislature. At that time, Linora had successfully been Knighted, and was free once again to communicate with her family. Much like Relana, she had grown distant form their parents, which was expected. What was not expected was the close tie that the sisters had developed so many years ago had not dwindled in the least.
Over the next four years, Relana climbed the governmental hierarchy until she had been elected Senator of Corellia at the age of twenty-five. It was on Coruscant she met her future husband, Artemis Bac. He was trying to get a meeting with a Senator, any Senator, to help him with a problem of some importance to him. Relana agreed to see him, and he began to relate his troubles. It appeared a mining company has been polluting the rivers in a more remote area of Alderaan, and that the planetary government didn’t have enough power to try and stop them. Interested in the man’s charm and genuine caring, she agreed to aid the man in his cause.
The fight was long and drawn out, but in the end, Relana was able to pass a law stating inter-planetary companies could not bend specific planetary laws with influence, and they were forced to submit to the govern of the planet while operations were carried out. It would be this fight that would gain her the acknowledgment of the senior members of the Senate and even the Supreme Chancellor. At the same time, Relana’s sister Linora was promoted to Jedi Master. After a short time, Linora had successfully convinced the Council to support Relana in her run for the office of Supreme Chancellor at the age of twenty-six. She was elected in a landslide victory.
Around the same time, she met Artemis Bac once again. He was a Sergeant in the military at the time, and they quickly became close friends. They married in a quite ceremony on Alderaan three years later. Ten months later they were blessed with a baby boy, Adrian Tanoor-Bac. Even though Relana seemed quite happy on the surface, in reality she was plagued with the stresses of leadership. There were countless Senators hoping to get rid of her as Chancellor, and many of them tried to pin her relationship with Artemis Bac, who had climbed the ranks of the military and held a rather high position. They blamed the Chancellor of favouritism.
Nevertheless, Relana managed to organize both her political and personal lives, and effectively separate the two. Her official residence was on Alderaan, on the island city of Belleau-a-Lir. Although she spent little time there, due to the massive amount of time she spent on Coruscant working. Her family would travel with her, until Adrian had turned five, and started schooling on Alderaan.
It was long and arduous, but by the age of thirty-four, Relana had cemented her value to the Republic, and it became apparent that she would be Chancellor for a time still. At the age of thirty-five, Relana has managed to turn a chaotic Republic into a powerhouse, and has seen some of the most fervent expansion during her rein.
