As revealed in Senate committee meetings and the news, Senator Gabriel Djibril has decided to have Obroa-skai secede from the Republic, claiming the Hutts have promised to leave his planet and any other planet that secedes alone. NPCly, a few Senators have joined him. Here is a list of the 'seperatists':
-Obroa-skai
-Colla IV
-Telti
-Ambria
-Umbara
-Tarhassan
-Gyndine
-Mimban
-Antar
-Korda
-Cartao
-Vena
-Donovia

Any planet that wishes to secede from the Republic and enter the Hutts' deal please post here the planet name and senator.
For those who believe this is outrageous and that I'm extending my limits, I spoke to both Empress Adena and Santoro about this idea and have gotten it approved, including the planets.

They're not betraying you, per se, they're only leaving you. They're not technically joining the Hutts.

You're technicalities don't mean anything in the propaganda and outcry that will follow, and these planets just damned themselves publicly in the eyes of the rest of the Republic. After the war ends, if the Republic exists, they'll always be cowards and leeches to the other worlds, not trustworthy or reliable.

Pretty much this.

While I do think a succession is an interesting plot twist, I hope it is known, at least OOC-wise, that Hutts are known for their lies and deception and are not above luring these worlds into a false sense of security. Once they leave the Republic they will have virtually no protection if the Hutts decided to dishonor their 'agreement' and occupy those worlds, and they will be seen as cowards by the Republic which means they will find little help from them.

All in all, strategically this was a bad move.

It not only weakens the Republic but it also weakens those worlds that left. Still, if you received permission from the faction leaders of both the Hutts and the Republic, than I guess they already have plans regarding these separatist worlds and I will respect their decisions.

Of course the Hutts' promises are empty, that was already known by Djibril.
The secession is meant to weaken the Republic. Djibril instigated this to have the Republic split in two, thus causing the Republic to not just have to deal with the Hutts and Bogan, but also a seperatists faction. However, the only true traitor would be Gabriel Djibril, who is secretly working with the Hutts. The rest are just cowards and optimists.

This will have to be reviewed and approved of by the staff before it is allowed to take place, as taking control of NPC senators is not allowed, and furthermore, a senator does not have ultimate say in his world's actions - he is a representative of that world's will, and while the staff tries to let senators have more or less free reign over their dominions, anything massive like this must be cleared through us if it affects a main faction in any way.

So, again, please call an all-stop to this and wait for the staff to either approve or disallow this turn of events.

Per what Adena said in another thread, Zeltros shouldn't be on that list since it isn't a member world of the republic at this time.

I know. I'm in the process of finding all entries of "Zeltros" and deleting them. I already deleted the one in The Story.

Except that's not how it really went in the Clone Wars. The Hutts aren't just crime lords any more, they're the legitimate government of half the galaxy with no signs of stopping. It's not like it was a stupid move if they think the Hutts will win.

But yes, both Adena and I liked the idea. Adds more intrigue to it.

It may be practical, but the rest of the Republic will still be mad at them. Just saying.

That's very much true. I wouldn't be surprised if someone doesn't try to assassinate Djibril. Still, Djibril's motives are still a mystery. For now it seems like Djibril is working to save Obroa-skai but to anyone's knowledge, he could be working side by side with the Hutts or using this to get close to Emperor Tusa and assassinate him. Would go for an interesting plot twist. :bitchez

No... we are the Republic. We don't quite work that way.

Last time we as the United States experienced a secession attempt, we were nigh unhappy about it. And at the time, we were a rare beacon of democracy.

To be clear Santoro and I liked the idea, And yes given whats happening in the Republic the timing is quite realistic for a stunt like this to be pulled.

I ( we) gave a tentative approval pending more look into the planets involved

While usually you'd be right, it would be impractical for the Republic to try to force the traitors back into their "union" right now. Splitting their forces between two wars would almost certainly bring about their collapse, especially in the state they're in right now.
