Apparently you don't understand what a soldier is. A soldier is a person who fights battles within a larger army, and by that definition, Jedi are not soldiers under ordinary circumstances, as they are not a military force and were never intended to be such. They can be called upon to act as soldiers when need be, but that is not the reason for their existence, unlike a standing, professional army. Their peacekeeping does not involve occupation or threat of force, but peaceful negotiation and reconciliation. It isn't insulting to actual veterans to point this distinction out, and you trying to claim such is rather disingenuous.

Would you rather that he used the words "Armed sorcerous people capable of waging war for a cause" as that's what this line of argument was started by. People said that they weren't raising an army, but an army is what they were supposedly getting.

Now we know that it is NOT the case and not what Lutomi and Co. were going for, so this line of thought is rather pointless. In fact, this entire thread should probably be locked.

On the second hand Jedi do not become Jedi in the hopes and dreams of fighting battles or serving in wars, they do so to learn about and study the Force and grow as people, Jedi are not soldiers, they are spiritual philosophers with the ability to help others, to which they often attempt to utilize said abilities to that effect.

While this is kind of right, I would present it this way. The Jedi serve the will of the Force, specifically the light side of the Force. By following the will of what is effectively the embodiment of life itself, they serve life, i.e. every living being in the Galaxy. To do this they take on roles such as healers, diplomats, philosophers, and yes soldiers. Jedi have always been soldiers, all Jedi might not be soldiers but there have always been some soldiers within their ranks. Jedi, when the situation demands it, have to be warriors. In oder to defend those that cannot defend themselves they have to be that.

Guys, I asked you to stop. Now thats enough, this isnt a question any more,

If you'd like to argue about the merits of militarizing the Jedi, go to the Jedi OOC as suggested. Its probably a good discussion right now, and the leadership will actually have something regarding it in our next newletter.

So, please stop here, as this is over.

And go somewhere else.

Go on kids, get!

The conversation people are having in this thread pertains directly to the ethos of Lutomi's submission. It is relevant and people are more than welcome to keep responding here.

The faction was not approved, and there is no intent yet by the maker of this faction to change that, and they are discussing what it mean to be a Jedi.

This is something that is more appropriate for the Jedi OOC.

The Jedi are Soldiers when they have it be, and the same goes with Peacekeepers needing to be Soldiers and Soldiers needing to be Peacekeepers.

The line is not one that is easily seen however, it's not something that clearly divides a black and white scenario that allows you to point at it and go "Oh look, that's a soldier and that's clearly a peacekeeper!"

It's more or less the reasons and causes to look at that determine when a Jedi is a Peacekeeper and when they are a Soldier, and same for those that aren't Jedi and are Soldiers in real life that are forced to act as Peacekeepers. Like fighting the Sith and their destructive oppression? Soldier for a good cause and a in-the-long-run Peacekeeper. Fighting because you don't like this dude and his land? Bad Soldier and totally not a Jedi.

The Cause makes the Warrior, the Warrior doesn't make the Cause, if that makes sense.

*EDIT
Just wanted to clarify that/get that out, didn't see the ending bit there, sorry TAC and Co.
