Senator Starros 'killed in action' as Lothal falls

Dedicated and outspoken Lothalite Senator, Cal Starros, has been killed in action during the invasion of Lothal by hostile Mandalorian forces, the 'Hyperlane Herald' can report. The Senators wife announced the news earlier today, saying that her husband had "died defending the world he had dedicated his life to".

Senator Starros served as his planets representative to the Galactic Senate for three decades, having previously served in the planetary Government of Lothal, prior to which he worked for several years in the Lothalite Planetary Defence Force. An outspoken voice in the Senate, known for his condemnation of the Sith Empire, and robust support for the Jedi Order, Starros was a popular figure on his world, and frequently saw commanding victories in his successive races for Senate.

Starros, who died after being fired upon by multiple assailants in Loth Cities main square, leaves a wife, three children and seven grandchildren to share in the mourning of the citizens of Lothal.

Lothals Government, which has been replaced by the Mandalorians following the invasion in which Senator Starros was killed, has not been able to comment on the matter, with many sources confirming that those not killed in the invasion, are currently in hiding.

He devoted his career to the promotion of Lothal and her people, and to seek to create a unified force on the northernmost borders of the Free World Alliance, against what he considered a 'rising Sith thread'. More recently he was noted to have reopened a Jedi Temple on Lothal, the fate of which is now uncertain, as well as to have supported FWA Senatoe Korre in her successful bid to become Prime Minister.

A long-standing supporter of the individual sovereignty of FWA member states, Starros was a controversial yet popular figure in the Senate itself. Cal Starros was born sixty-nine years ago and was killed in action one day before his seventieth birthday.

Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl couldn't hold back a howl of grief as the news broke- Senator Starros had been killed when the Mandalorians had stunned the galaxy by invading Lothal. While he and Starros hadn't always seen eye to eye, the Wookiee recognized that one of the FWA's staunchest members had been lost on that day. Even more disheartening was the fall of Lothal, it's innocent peoples murdered by the new Mand'alor and his Death Watch.

Never in his 400+ years had Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl felt the burden of leadership that he did now- with Starros gone, he remained as one of the few vocal members of the Free World's Alliance still advocating for an offensive war against the Sith. He hadn't realized how much he'd been leaning on Starros, whose death in the wake of Senator Hawthorne's murder struck far too close to home. Both had been inspirational in their own right. Both now lay dead for opposing tyranny.

About an hour later, Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl stood behind a podium to address the press.

"Senator Cal Starros died as he lived- defending his people from the threats of tyranny and subjugation. It is in his memory that Kashyyyk condemns the invasion of Lothal. It is in his memory that we shall continue to stand against evil. And it is in his memory that we will liberate Lothal. Senator Starros' spirit will stoke the flames of resistance until Lothal is a free planet once more."

Stepping down from the stand, the aged Wookiee felt every one of his 421 years weighing on him. How many more of these speeches did he have left in him? And how many more would he have to give before he inevitably joined Starros and Hawthorne?
