Spintir - Spring

It had been several months since Jon and Kali had taken the first steps towards their new reality. On Spintir, Fall had turned into winter, and winter had turned into Spring. With the melting of the snow came the time to start building. Jon had been splitting his time between Raxus and Spintir since his retirement. However, Kali had been away on assignment the last month, so he had thrown himself into the work of building. It had been a difficult adjustment, spending so much time apart, but he knew that was temporary. It was worth the struggle now to build the life he wanted for them.

"No! Not like that!" he called out to one of the construction droids they had purchased to assist them. "Cut it like this..." he said, moving over and showing how he wanted it done. The droid chirped sarcastically, somehow managing to convey a mocking tone. There were times when he loathed these machines, but he needed the extra hands if he had any hope of getting this built before the winter of the next year.

The days were still not hot, but they were warming each day. It was midday, and Jon had been out here since dawn. He had long since discarded his shirt. His beard had grown longer since his retirement, less groomed than his days as an Imperial Officer.

The house was little more than a frame at this point, but one could say the shape of the place was coming about.

"Hold that board into place," he told the other droid as he climbed a ladder and began hammering, nailing it into place.

Life on Raxus was quite similiar each day. The Empire had recently suffered a few planetary losses, apperently Raze was after them too and it was more important than ever to keep the Squires prepared. Kalique didn't want to see either of them lose their lives to the abominations, but just like the regular struggles of battles, war and the constant fight against losing control demanded victims.

It was a hard truth, but one she accepted. Still, this didn't mean she wasn't hopeful for the new generations of Squires. She did everything she could to prepare them as good as possible, yet this meant there was a lot of work. On Raxus she functioned, she served, she fulfilled her duties. Her mind was constantly focused on work and there weren't many breaks she could take to catch her breath in, but that was why she was overly grateful when she got time off and could leave Raxus behind for a moment.

She saw Jon regularly, but obviously much less often than before after his official retirement. It was difficult at first, but as always, they made it work and she valued the time spent with him even more now that it had gotten much rarer again. Today she finally found herself enroute to Spintir again though and she had been looking forward to it for weeks, so her excitement couldn't have been any bigger, as on Spintir, where their future was created each and every day, things were just different.

For as long as their place wasn't build, they stayed with his parents and so Kalique had already greeted them before she made her way over to the building site. Obviously, she also quickly had to check in with the now juvenile pups who had also greeted her excitedly, but she'd check in on them alter again - for now she couldn't wait to see Jon and what he had already done.

It was impossible to decide whether the cozy fall athmosphere on Spintir with all the colorful leaves and gentle thunderstorms had been more beautiful than the full beauty of the early blossoming spring, but once again she found herself mesmerized as she entered the clearing. It was surreal that here right in the middle of this stunning scenery she found the first frames of their future home and Jon together with the construction droids amidst everything.

She warmly smiled from one ear to the other, assumign Jon had heard the approaching speeder, and she literally broke into a jog after she had alighted. It felt...unreal to see what he had already managed to construct and she was overwhelmed by her emotions as she was finally home.

Ever since he had made the step of choosing to step down from his duties, he was also much more like the Jonathen she had met all those years ago and seeing it made her happy every single time. If he wasn't going to climb down right away to embrace her, she'd impatiently shift her weight from one leg to the other until the board was secured properly before she'd finally wrap her arms around him, utterly speechless and yet completely overflowing with joy.

He heard the speeder approach but assumed it was one of his parents coming to check in on him or coming to help, so he didn't bother turning around for the moment as he held his side of the board with one arm and continued nailing with the other.

Jon glanced over as Kali rounded the corner, his brain taking a second to connect that she was actually here. "Wait..what?" he said, a smile already plastered on his face. "Give me just a second." he said, turning back and nailing the last nails in that board, securing it in place.

"You should have told me you were coming," he said, climbing off the ladder. "I would have.." he was cut off as she embraced him, his comment turning into a warm laugh. He was dirty and sweaty but hadn't seemed to bother her much.

"I missed you," he said quietly before kissing the top of her head, meeting her gaze, and properly kissing her, heat fuelled by their time apart.

Pulling back, but still holding her, "So, what do you think, so far?" he asked, eyes scanning the progress that had been made. They had painstakingly gone over the plans for the home in the months after their decision to do this, but seeing plans and seeing it actually start to come to life were two totally separate things.

Kalique found it relatively amusing that Jon didn't even notice her at first, but it only made her smile widen as the moment he did turn, his eyes fully widened. "That's surely a sight to behold..." yet another incredibly attractive side of him she hadn't seen like this before, but there was something about the shirtless, happy man with the hammer.

"And miss a chance to surprise you? Nooo" her voice was a little muffled as her head was nuzzled against him, but as she withdrew her head, there was a warm smile planted on her lips. "I missed you, too". Missing him was painful, but every reunion was worth it and she knew it was only a temporary circumstance anyway.

As she asked her for her opinion, she directed her gaze at the actual construction site again, finding the progress amazing even if it was only the frame. "It's incredible...I mean, how you did you even do all of this by yourself?" yes, he had some droids, but it wasn't the same and the actual building had literally started.

"How long have you been at it?" she wanted to know, meeting his gaze again. It was still somewhat incredibly that they were really getting closer quickly to the life they've dreamt off and she was saddened by the fact that once again, she couldn't have been around as often as she had wanted to. "So you gotta update me on all the next steps. As long as I'm around, I'll help you as much as I can".

"Well, not totally by myself." he said, sparing a glance at the two construction droids. "Dad has been here when he can, and I have gotten a hand from a few others here and there.." he said, following her gaze around the structure. He had certainly had practice at construction all throughout his youth. They had constantly been repairing or building something, but this certainly was a huge project for him.

"Today? I have been out here since dawn, I guess.." he said, noticing for the first time it was past midday now. He took a step back as she asked about what he was working on now and the next steps. He didn't want to spend what little time she would be here working, but he knew it was important to her to have a hand in this process as well. "Right now, I am working on this room." he said, pointing to the part of the building he had just been hanging boards. "At the risk of making the droids jealous..." he said with a chuckle. "I could use an extra pair of hands?" he asked. The more animated droid, making another sarcastic set of beeps and tones in the background.

"I need to run into town later and pick up an order of supplies that has come in." he added. He picked up another board and started moving it into place.

"You get to see the puppies?" he asked, glancing over at her. "They are getting big..." he commented. Jon had been taking care of them, making sure they got enough exercise, going through the training exercises that Kali had wanted them to go through while she was gone. He had started to grow pretty attached to the lot of them.

Of course his dad had helped...how could she have not expected that? "They're so busy themselves..." obviously, it was a kind gesture, but Kalique felt bad about how they still tried offering their helping hands here while they had a whole farm to take care of themselves.

"Since dawn?! Sounds like you need a little break!" He was not one to take breaks when he was really engaged with something, a trait they literally shared, but even if he had been working here the whole time, he didn't seem that exhausted yet, and obviously, he just happily carried on.

"Oh sure! I'm fairly certain I've never used the Force for construction work, but I'm sure for transporting heavy goods I can speed things up...if you're really asking me to...I don't even know, measure stuff, accurately hammer down nails or whatever, I do have to warn you though...This house won't probably last a year" she replied amusedly, not at all hiding that she wasn't crafty at all. He was usually a great teacher when it came to that, but she trusted his abilities blindly and her own not that much..

He moved to a board and knowing that one of the snappy droids had just held it in place before, she got into position though. "Okay holding I might manage", she hoped. She waited for him to instrcut her where to put it exactly while she'd watch him hammer then. "I have! It's unbelievable...they're outweighting Bandit already I guess". They were almost half a year old and would start rapid growth soon.

"Did they behave? They're hitting teen stage now...they can't ever even attempt biting" she threw him a grin, really hoping they hadn't, but she didn't see any fresh scars or bruises so far, which was relieving. Kalique knew that they fully accepted and loved him and that neither of them had aggressive tendencies per se, but with them testing their boundaries, she was hoping there wouldn't be any issues.

"Neither have I." he joked when she commented about never using the Force for this type of work. "Don't sell yourself short; I am sure you could pick up all of this in no time," he said confidently. She was the most competent person he knew in the Galaxy.

He moved the board into place, and then Kali held it with the Force. It was perfect; the board didn't move in the slightest as he nailed it into place. It sped up the process significantly. "I could get used to this..." he said with a smirk, glancing down at her. "You're much easier on the eyes than my normal help, too. " he joked with a wink before they repeated the process with another board.

"They are going to be big, that's for sure." he said, continuing to hammer nails in place. "For the most part. We did have several incidents, but other than my favorite pair of pants, there have been no casualties," he said. "They will need large enclosures pretty soon if you intend to house them here for much longer." he commented. They would need somewhere they could run around a bit more. "I took them hunting last week, they did alright." he added.

He held a board in place and then offered her his hammer. "Here, you try." he said. He passed her a nail and showed her where to place it. Jon secured the board as he walked her through where and how to drive the nail in.

"You won't be the one with a nail in his hand" she grumbled under her breath as he proved to be so optimistic, however a smirk immediately tugged at her lips as she was actually never one to turn down a chance to learn and expand her skills. She'd just have to be...less clumsy, she figured.

With her in a safe and Jon hammering, everything went perfectly well. She could maneuver over new boards and study his work, before she replied, "Well, my view isn't bad either...". She even found it somewhat relaxing, and building your own place with your own hands was something different.

"Yes for sure...they're growing like weeds" she had contacted the ones who had provided the enclosure last time, but given how well they had done so far, she had even considered keeping them here, around the new property in a much looser way. "The poor pants..." He had truly loved the pair...but Kalique remembered where they had found them, so she already took a mental note about ordering the same pair again to compensate for his loss.

Rhia and her had made huge progress with the actual force bonding and so Kalique was almost certain they wouldn't hunt farm animals...their prey drives were literally lower unless commanded otherwise, so perhaps it was worth a try. "Oh that's great to hear!" it just added to her pervious train of thoughts, making her more hopeful. It was generally grate to see that Jon managed to handle them so well, so she wasn't really worried about the rest.

As he offered to switch roles, she let out a dramatic sight. "My noble blood doesn't even allow me to handle tools" she quipped as she threw him a smirk, but she obviously took the hammer and the first nail before she intently followed his instructions. "Okay it looks easy..." and it soon turned out it was relatively easy!

She nailed the first - pun not intended - and carried on with another as a warmth flooded her again. "Can you believe this is even happening? Like look at us...I'm just so grateful" building their own place in the most breathtaking surroundings and starting this new path together still excited her each and every day. "Okay, next" she couldn't even deny it was fun to hammer those nails into the boards.

"I love the optimism." he said sarcastically with a chuckle as she grumbled, putting a nail through her hand. If he had really thought that there was a chance that had happened, he wouldn't have even suggested it. Sometimes, Kali thought she was much more clumsy than she actually was. He found it amusing.

"A tragedy, to be sure, but such is life around here," he said with a shrug in regard to his pants. He enjoyed working with the creatures.

It came time for her turn, and she played the noble card. "How could I have forgotten, my lady. Please forgive me!" he said, climbing down the ladder. He took her hand and gently kissed the back of it. A moment later, he burst into laughing and handed her the hammer. She picked it up quickly, which wasn't too surprising. "Now, just a million more to go!" he said with a chuckle.

They settled into working for a bit. "Doesn't seem real, right?" he said. He had felt that way. "Sometimes, I wake up and get freaked out because I forget I'm not on Raxus. Its so quiet at night.." he said.

"How long are you here for?" he asked. It was a question he'd rather not ask, but it was best to know upfront.

She did believe him when he threw that numbed at her. Building a whole multi-room house was nothing like anything she had ever done and putting in a few nails herself just made her realize how much work it really was. "As much fun as hammering is, we could also just call for some backup". They could simply hire more helping hands, but she had a feeling as this was their own, well mainly his project right now, he also wanted to do the majority himself.

"I bet...I still can't get over this view" she added softly while they continued. The air was fresh, but the spring sun rays warmed them just enough to be perfectly pleasant. Kalique was fine in her shirt, but Jon had been on it far longer, so she didn't doubt he still didn't need his.

"Five days...it's not a lot but I'm looking forward to making the most out of it with you". It was almost a week. It was once again a rather spontaneous get away, but this was exactly why she valued the precious time off with him even more.

"I'm pretty sure we can get a lot of planning done..." after the next nail, her emerald gaze flicked over to him before her gaze roamed across his chest. "And other things..." she added with a smirk, before she called the next nail towards her. "What kind of supplies do we need later on?".

"We could..." he said with a shrug. That would be expensive, and while they were not in a rough financial situation by any means, they were down an income. There was still a long way to go in the project, especially when they considered the cost of developing the land beyond the home so they could begin producing. Besides, this kept him busy, and he liked the feeling of building this for his family. "Maybe if it falls too far behind schedule, that would be the best option.." he admitted. He wasn't prideful enough to make unwise decisions for the sole purpose of protecting his ego.

"It really is something. You know, I left for the military because I wanted to see the Galaxy, not knowing how much I would truly miss this place," he said. He obviously wouldn't have traded his time in the military for anything, but there was no doubt it had increased his appreciation of his home.

He nodded. It wasn't enough, but there wasn't going to be a number that felt right to him, knowing she would need to return. He let out a breath. "We will make the most of it." he said with a grin. "I am just glad you are here now," he added.

"What I need to finish the roof," he said, tilting his head upward. It had been framed out, but he would not get finished before the rains of the late spring and summer came. "The only reason I could work on this." he said, pointing to what they had been working on, "was because I knew it was going to be dry for the next few days," he said.

"Speaking of which." he said, looking up at the son's position. "I should probably get going to get that." he said. "Come with me?" he asked. "Totally understandable if you want to rest first.." he said, but it was obvious he wanted her to tag along.

Kalique saw him ponder and she knew the reason behind it. Even if the missing income from him, they were fine, financially. The Demici's had lost their reputation, their honor even, thanks to her cousin, and their spot on the council, but they hadn't lost their fortune.

Kalique was still paid well and what she had put aside from the Demici funds was always still the safety net. Kalique still knew this wasn't just a question of financial matters, but she was glad he conceded a little. She nodded agreeingly as they carried on, and smile spreading over her lips again as he mentioned having missed thus place.

"Yeah...I've haven't seen you thus happy and relaxed in a long time and you know, who could ever blame you. This place is still like a dream". And building their own future home was even more unbelievable. The sadness that followed her statement hurt her, but she forced herself to reciprocate the smile. There was never enough time spent with her favorite human in the Galaxy and obviously parting would be hard again, but this wouldn't be forever, she reminded herself.

"Oh okay...fair" there weren't many clouds around and the sky was rather bright, beautifully light blue, but she was glad it had stayed dry for a while. "No! Of course I'll come". Kalique had never been one to rest a lot, but obviously here she would really make the most out of their shared time.

"Where are we headed? Hilltop or something further away?" she curiously asked after she finally set the hammer down, checking her work for a moment before she turned to follow him.

He knew her family had money; her father had offered him some on more than one occasion. He wanted them to be self-reliant. He knew Kali felt the same way; she had never relied on her family's riches. She had what she had built herself.

It had not been an easy choice to make, leaving the military life behind. That is what he had known; that was his identity. Who was he now? Who should he become? These were all questions that spun around in his head at night. There were certainly stresses here, but they were rarely the topics of conversation when they got to communicate. He wanted to be there for her and support her in whatever way he could.

She smiled, but there was something beyond that. It lingered at the corner of her eyes when she didn't think he was looking. "Then what's wrong?" he asked, taking a step closer to her. He knew her; there was something bothering her.

They had been together long enough for Jon to read between the lines, to decipher all the slightest nuances ans thus tell that the smile planted on her lips wasn't fully genuine. He noticed sadness that bled into it and he immediately called her out on it, making her stop and meet his gaze.

Even if on Raxus, there was usually a lot on her mind, here, most sorrows were usually blown away. Yet today she couldn't shake the feeling that she missed out on a lot and that she neglected her duties here by having to leave him alone so often. "It's...you don't have to worry" she began, reaching for his hands.

"I just..." Kalique was also someone who often struggled with expressing her true emotions but it had never been difficult in front of him. "It makes me a little sad that I'm off...working most of the time while you're building our future right here" she thus admitted, another sad smile tugging at her lips.

"And I obviously miss you...often" this part he already knew, but she was indeed hoping for a shift in her schedule better sooner than later. "But I'm not here to dwell on the sadness. I want to use this time with you as best as we can" that was what mattered, and she was happy to assist him right now at least. "I love you so much", the feeling often overwhelmed her still, but she had no words for how happy he made her.

She stood for a moment, deciding if she wanted to push off what she was feeling or not. Jon had long accepted that Kali did a lot to control her emotions. As an Imperial Knight and a user of the Force, it was important to remain in control. Jon didn't necessarily understand how it all worked, but he respected it and her for it.

She grabbed her hands as the words started to form. As she opened up, he frowned slightly, not at her, but it hurt him to see her hurting. He listened until she was finished. Jon fixed things; his instinct was to jump into this problem and find a solution, but there were times when just listening and being there were what was needed; he felt like this was one of those times.

He took a step closer as he finally spoke. "I am just building a house. You are my future," he said quietly. "You are the only reason any of this is special. The only reason this is worth doing," he said. He reached up and pushed back a stay strand of hair that had worked itself free while they had labored. "I miss and love you," he said finally.

"We always make it through, right?" he asked, a small smile returning to his lips.

He unclipped his tool belt and hung it nearby before finding his discarded shirt and pulling it on, buttoning it as he turned back toward her. "Before we head into town, we need to stop by the house; there is someone I want you to meet," he said with a smile, making his way towards the speeder.

Not that Jon had always understood her, even when she talked about things connected to the Force, things he couldn't grasp like that, he also knew exactly what she needed and how to respond in just the right moments. His words warmed her heart and she squeezed his hand, his words touching her so deeply that her lower lip slightly quivered.

It was a faint wave of tears that threatened to broke free, but as her emerald eyes were slightly laced by the welling emotions, his smile was way too infectious to let them win. It was a statement they had often exchanged, yet it was true like nothing else. "We do..." she softly answered with pure love in her eyes before he readied himself to leave, and she mentally added a sweet, 'and I still can't wait for what is to come'.

The sadness faded and was replaced by the joyous warmth he so often triggered within her. The mood grew more lighthearted as they made their way back to the speeder, his sudden remark, however, throwing her off her guard. "Whaaat?" now that was interesting. She was more than intrigued, but her curiosity spiked at once. "Who? Come on, you absolutely can't just tease me like that!" she nudged him before she threw him a pleading look. Kalique could be patient, but this came as a complete surprise.

"We do." Jon took comfort in those words as they started to leave.

He turned and faced her, walking backward. "You can surprise me, but I can't surprise you? That doesn't seem fair!" he joked, wearing an obviously fake frown. The happiness was apparent in his eyes as they climbed in his speeder. They would have to get the one she had driven down here later.

Jon started the speeder, it rumbling to life. He turned to face her. "I know I have said this, but I am really glad you are here," he said warmly, leaning in and kissing her, lingering for just a moment before pulling back. He placed a hand on her leg as they pulled away from the build site. " So, how are the squires doing?" he asked as they drove down the dusty farm road. They had a couple of minutes to catch up before they arrived back at his parents.

"Alright, I'll be right back. Close your eyes!" he said, waiting until she had done so before he went around the back of the house and the kennel they had set up there. He returned a minute later, carrying a small bundle of fur.

"You can open your eyes" he said as he placed the small puppy in her lap. "Every farm needs a good farm dog..." he said with a smile. "This is Luna. She earned that name because somebody just loves to howl at the moon..." he explained, though he wasn't sure how much Kali earned as the puppy enthusiastically leaped at her face, licking furiously.

"Yes! I believe that's exactly how I remembered this was how it's supposed to be going" she was obviously joking, but she tried to keep a straight face before her lips curled into a grin. "Come oooon, tell me" she really wanted to know, at least in which direction this was going, but he didn't concede and she had to stay curious.

Once in the speeder, she reciprocated the kiss before she gently placed her hand on his. "So am I...I was at my ship so quickly that I wouldn't have even had enough time to call you in advance" she replied softly, and it was true. Her focus had been on getting here and surprising him was just another lovely side effect.

"They're doing well...all behaving" she answered, before she asked, "How did spring treat your parents so far? Are they on schedule?" as she had just briefly said hello and as they had been working anyway, she didn't have much to catch up with them, so she was curious about what he had to share while she hoped everything has gone well. "Have you run into the Rolstens again? I'd be curious to know what they're thinking of our project" she added with a smirk as she leaned back and enjoyed the passing landscape.

As they reached the farm, Kalique excitedly glanced around, hoping to spot anyone close by, but didn't see anything just yet, so with a little grumbling, she closed her eyes. "Do hurry!" she still couldn't wait to find out, but tried to remain patient for now. Jon disappeared for a moment, but as she sensed him coming back, there was another small, warm presence with him.

Kalique waited for her sign to finally open her eyes, but it only came as he placed the puppy in her lap. Her eyes opened, and her gaze immediately met the overexcited puppy that instantly leapt for her face, greeting her in the most doggy way possible. "Nooooo way" Kalique managed to say, her voice was higher and just as excited as she was forced to turn her head a little.

Now this, wasn't just a surprise, but it was almost unbearably cute. "Are you serious?! I can't believe this...ohhhhh you are so adorable" even if she was talking to the puppy, the same applied to Jon and as she started scratching the little fur baby behind her ears, she looked up at Jon again. "This is...I don't know what to say" absolutely amazing? The best surprise ever? Literally what felt like the first actual addition to their family? Everything.

"She's so soft...welcome to the family little one" she softly said, addressing Luna again, who had formerly enjoyed the scratches but at the mentioning of her name started jumping again. "Okay that was worth the wait..." she tried reach Jon's hand to pull him close and into a kiss, but Luna kept trying to squeeze herself into the middle of it all. "Thank you...that's an amazing surprise. When did you get her?".

It was good just to catch up face-to-face. They obviously stayed in contact with their comm devices, but it was never the same as her actually being there with him. "Things always slow down during the winter, so they have certainly picked up in the last week as we have started having to prepare the fields," he said. It had become more and more obvious his help was needed. "It's likely going to slow down the building as I am going to need to split my time, but I am just glad I am here to help out. Both of them are too stubborn..." he said.

He scowled slightly at the mention of the Rolstens. "I ran into them a few weeks back, tried to be polite, but they kept talking about how they were also planning on building this bigger house..." he said, shaking his head. "...A family of jackasses..." he said with an annoyed huff.

They soon arrived home, and Jon almost vibrated with her surprise.

Jon laughed joyfully as Kali's face lit up. He knew she would love the puppy, which is what he told himself to justify picking it up the week prior. To be honest, he had wanted the dog just as much.

Kali pulled him closer, but Luna was not having any of it. She pushed her nose in between the couple, not having any of that. "Hey now! I saw her first." he told the dog as he picked her up. She was cute...too cute. He sighed as she started to lick his face. "Guess we will just have to share." he said, looking over to Kali and winking.

"We should get going." he put that puppy back down on the seat between them.

Of course they were fully back at it again. When Kalique had quickly stopped by earlier, they'd had already been amidst the fields, preparing the fields, probably working from sunrise to sundown again. "For sure...we are in no rush" once the roof was set, from what she had gathered earlier, but that was why it was good she could help him for now.

"Sounds like they have a lot to compensate for then..". It was amusing. The little feud wasn't really hostile, a part of Kalique thought they had too much respect or even of fear of their positions even if they'd never admit it to actually attempt harming them, but the constant gibe was surely something.

"Want to place a bet? If we were to tell them we're expecting, they'd do the same...", she couldn't help but think this further and the thought did amuse her, before Jon had presented little Luna. Kalique couldn't help but chuckle at his reply before Jon placed her down and Kalique held her carefully to secure her for the drive.

"What did Bandit say when he saw her?" she asked curiously as Jon began driving while it was impossible not to keep petting the soft puppy fur while she held onto her. The Wolves would surely love her too - they were super social and she didn't doubt they'd get along well. "So roof supplies and then back to the building site...what are the plans for the next few days exactly?" Kalique was excited to help, whether it was at the house or the farm as she was generally looking forward to just spending time with him.
