Shady Work On Tatooine

*She sat in the cockpit of the low profile fighter and looked at him. She was in the mood for trouble, and it looked as though Xin had said something about her that didn't hold well with this guy.*

That would be me. You got a problem with that?

 

[Shara]

Mau watched the confrontation with mild concern. Something about this woman seemed... dangerous. She didn't like it.

She rested a hand on her blaster, shifting nervously.

'Never a dull moment with this guy...'

Rayz grew increasingly nervous now, which was very unlike him. Xin however, had been a wonderful fighter though, and if she held some sort of fear for this Shadow, than she was certainly not one to be underestimated. He relaxed his shoulder and drew his hand into position where he could quickly get to his blaster on his belt. He also carefully watched Mau from the corner of his eye. It appeared as though she was ready to back him up, should the need arise.

"No problem," Rayz said to Shadow, "it's just that Xin mentioned something about a Shadow while incoherently mumbling in the back of my ship."

It pained him to speak of Xin like this, but he felt that it was better for him not to lead on that he'd developed a bit of an attachment to Xin in the short time he'd known her.

 

[SophiaM]

*Shadow got out of the fighter and leaned against the blaster cannon.*

Awwww, the little Zabrack had a crush on her. And she was right to fear me, I wiped out her family. And for good reason too. They were a threat to the republic, and people like her don't deserve to live.

*Her head jerked and she spoke again, but this time her voice was despereate.*

Shut up bitch! Quick! I don't know how long I can keep her back. Where am I?

 

[Shara]

Mau edged closer, blaster half out of its holster. She had no clue what they were talking about, and got the feeling that she probably didn't want to know, but she didn't like this woman's tone.

She glanced at Rayz, questioning. He was nervous, she could feel it. And if he needed her help she was more than prepared to give it.

Startled by what he had just heard, the expression on Rayz's face changed from one of intent concentration to one of confusion.

"E-e-excuse me," he asked?

His mind ran quickly through what he had just heard. At one moment this Shadow seemed speak in a quite contemptuous tone, the second statement that she made seemed almost startled. He decided to answer the question, rather than to push against the statement about Xin.

"You are on Tatooine in a docking hangar. I do believe you were in the process of threatening me or something," Rayz said in a confused tone that reflected the look on his face?

Rayz felt Mau moving closer, and not wanting to further agitate this Shadow, he subtly signaled to her behind his back to stay where she was.

You've got to help me. Shadow stole my body. I'll explain later....

Who you calling bitch?

*She took a computer spike from her belt and jammed it into the port in the back of her neck. She was silent for a moment and then spoke again.*

Sorry about her. I've got to get to a tech lab station and quick. Otherwise she'll come back.

 

[Shara]

Against her better judgement Mau nodded at Rayz and came to an uneasy hault, hand still on her half drawn blaster.

'Weird....'

Rayz was still quite confused with what was going on.

Somewhat frantically, Rayz asked, "what the hell is going on here? Are you talking about yourself in the third person?"

Rayz finally cleared his head and asked, "what kind of help do you need?"

Long story short. I'm an augment. Fatal virus caused my body to decay so I implanted my brain with new tech and replaced most of my bodyparts. Shadow is an A.I. i created for the republic and she became self-aware and stole my body when I was jacked in to the network.

"So if you are not Shadow, who are you then" asked Rayz, still remarkably confused by the events that had just transpired?

Major Masuko Jaal, Republic Scientist and inventor. And you are?

~Ill winds often arrive at the worst possible times. N'veris was like that, arriving when things balanced the most precariously, when all it would take is a nudge to send things spiraling into chaos. The Snake landed on the desert world of Tatooine though not IN that oh so busy hangar. As she stepped out of the vessel she paused, drinking in the atmosphere. Her long black tresses danced in the dry wind as her equally dark-eyed gaze turned towards the hangars, she could taste it on the wind... conflict. It was like smelling a favored dish long denied. She sauntered in that direction, a hungry look in her eyes.~

 

[Shara]

Mau scowled, grumbling under her breath. She didn't entirely understand what was going on, but she knew whatever it was would mean more work. And of a very unpleasant sort.

"Meh."

"Okay, let me get this straight. You are Masuko, but you are also Shadow," Rayz asked?

This was beginning to get a bit wierd for his tastes. He had noticed before that this Shadow or Masuko, or whoever she was had uncommon strength, but he was still having trouble grasping the events going on before him.

"I am Rayz... Both of you," he stated.

Now that the tension had calmed ever so slightly though, he motioned to Mau to come forward. The confusion here was significant, and he felt that it would be better to have help available should the need arise. Again behind his back, he motioned toward Mau to approach.

 

[SophiaM]

*Masuko sighed and turned round. She saw the fighter and tilted her head. She reached inside and picked up the visor that Shadow usually wore. She turned back round and looked at Rayz and Mau.*

Seems that Shadow managed to commendeer the research ship, oh well. Look. It's really hard to explain, think of it as split personalities. I'm Masuko, I own this body, it's mine by birth. The other me is Shadow, the bad one that needs to be got rid of. And I need your help to do that.

*She put the visor over her eyes and slipped it upwards so it was on top of her head keeping her hair back.*

 

[Shara]

Mau obeyed Rayz's beckoning without hesitation, lithely striding up to stand beside him. She gave the other woman a cold, searching glare.

"I don't like this." She said in an undertone. "I don't trust her. Them. Whatever."

As strange as her explanation was, it made relative sense to him. It appeared that Masuko had Shadow under control for the moment, but Rayz remained quite cautious because the Shadow character within her seemed quite dangerous.

Rayz began to relax and regain his senses. He could feel the presence of both Masuko and Mau, but there was someone else approaching the hangar as well. There were enough people in this hangar already, and Rayz really didn't want to have to keep track of another who just happened to stroll in.

"I'm sort of in a hurry here. What kind of help do you need," Rayz asked Masuko?

 

[SophiaM]

I need to get to the ship Shadow stole, but I don't know where it is.

*She points to the fighter.*

And not this ship, this is only a fighter from it. Once I'm on the research ship, I can get rid of her, but I need you guys to help me find the ship and keep watch over me while I hack my own brain.

"Okay," Rayz said in a disbelieving tone?

"What is the range of these fighters," Rayz asked? "If I know that, it'll be easier to figure out how difficult it'll be to find your ship."

The fighter looked to be a short range model, but he had never seen one like it before, so he had no idea whatsoever how far away the parent ship could be.

"Being that your fighter obviously won't carry all three of us, I'd suggest that we take my ship into orbit," Rayz stated.
