Anyway, now that Snowden has his year in paradise, I wonder what he'll do now.

Watch his back, try desperately to not allow paranoia to take over his mind, earn money for when his asylum ends, wonder and plan endlessly on what will happen and what to do when his one year is up.

Honestly, poor guy.

Also, as a general statement, no government is perfect, in fact is venture to say no government anywhere is even 'good' by the standards we demand. Some are better than others, that's clear, but no government is 'good'

In relation to the article Hollow just posted. What the ****. And this is why I use non-tracking Internet search software.
Or so I hope it's non-tracking.

@Hollow

Have you ever looked up how to make a pressure cooker bomb? My husband, ever the oppositional kind, asked them if they themselves weren’t curious as to how a pressure cooker bomb works, if they ever looked it up. Two of them admitted they did.

Which while disagreeable (note that it was her husband's employers who tipped off local authorities, not some sort of dragnet by los federales), is not quite the same as UNCLE SAM IS IN YOUR GOOGLE which is rather ridiculous given the sheer amount of data and the processing caps and limits which even the government doesn't quite have the resources to surmount.

And no, this doesn't mean that the Department of Homeland Security isn't an authoritarian boondoggle which should be abolished.

On a side note, I am internet-acquainted with the woman in question. I find this story a bit hilarious because myself and other stupid hippies tangled with said lady on the interwebz during the Bush Administration because, and I quote:

I get more and more discouraged, more upset at the tone the AWC [anti-war crowd] has taken. I will not this time apologize for calling them traitors. I will not back down from those words. When you support an insurgency against your country's soldiers, when you declare that you are in bed in with the enemy, then you are a traitor. And you should be treated as such. I wish that every vet who has returned home from Iraq would see those signs and act upon them.

Which I suppose makes Mrs. Catalano a perfect representative of newfound libertarianism amongst conservatives because, as in all things, it always comes down to how government personally affects them and other hypocritical assholery.

Protip to conservatives: next time you may want to join us premature anti-fascists and not be dicks about it if you want to be taken seriously later on when there's a scary black man in the White House.

Although XKeyscore does sound a lot scarier than PRISM or any of the other programs we've been hearing about.

And I was only made aware of that initial article regarding the pressure cooker searches, I didn't follow up with any articles thereafter. Slightly less peeved about in that case, but like I said, this other program is a lot more disconcerting.

There was supposed to be one guy, and he was terrible at his job. That doesn't mean there's a conspiracy.

Lincoln gave the dude a vacation, the dude said he shouldn't take it for Lincoln's safety, Lincoln forced him to take a vacation.

The guy was supposed to be standing guard but instead he decided to go to a bar.

You seem to be saying that Lincoln killed himself. Not that I'd expect a conspiracy theory to sound rational or logical or anything.

Well then, my teachers are all liars. Not the first time though.

To elaborate, the guard was a police officer named John Frederick Parker. He went to a bar during intermission and no one knows if he ever came back to guard Lincoln again (but he definitely was not there when the shooting happened). Even if he had been there, Booth was a famous actor who probably would have been allowed into the box anyway.
