Trust was a dangerous word within the Inquisitorius, they had been taught from their very first day that they should trust no one, not even the masters above them. None were above repute, everyone should be questioned and everyone should be suspected at all times. It was a painful life to live, not allowing yourself to trust anyone, but it was one that suited Ryujin. A young life in the fighting pits of the Hutts where you could as likely be stabbed in the back as given a fresh loaf of bread by the man next to you. Had instilled mistrust deep within the young Inquisitor.

The one person they were told to trust was of course The Empress, for they survived to perfect her Empire, where the Sith and Imperial Armed Forces would bring in giantic stripes of land, legions of new subjects and copious amounts of coin for the coffers. It would be the Inquisitors who would make sure that none of that exploded into flames of revolt. But now it seemed that a second was pushed into the extreme prestige so as to not be questioned by the Inquisitorius, Darth Raze, the new Dark Lord of the Sith. Andruil’s right hand man and apparently enforcer.

Ryujin snarled a little when he heard the announcement, that is what he and his brethren were for, they were to instil the Empress’ rules within the Empire. They did not need another at the head to take this roll from them. But for now he would grit his teeth, he was there to do what the Empress commanded, if it was to allow this man to be free from their inquisitive eyes then so be it.

Raze was no mystical new blade for the Empress, he had been one of the most prominent Sith around for the past decade, baring perhaps the Empress herself. The file that had been composed on the Sith was thick if not overly impressive, it mainly just spoke of the exploits of the man. From what Ryujin could tell he was one hundred percent Sith, he disappeared from Sith Space from time to time but so did many Sith. Darth Caelestis had a tendency to do so as well, though where he would go would always be a mystery now he lay cold and buried on Moraband.

So at least at this moment he had no reason to distrust the man, even if he was allowed to do so by those above him. But even if he had no reason and was allowed no reason, curiosity scratched at the back of Ryujin’s mind, an incurable itch that would only be satisfied when he met the man. The meeting was done behind the back of Darth Anaris the new Warden on the Imperial Council, Ryujin had no dislike for the Sith, but as was his nature and their creed he was not to trust the man. So through the Inquisitor channels he had requested a meeting with Darth Raze.

It was a basic request on the surface, Darth Raze was new in this position and as one of the Senior Inquisitors present on Korriban at the time. He had reached out to give the man an update of their internal situation, since conveniently Darth Anaris was away in the East.

Ryujin in his guise as Inquisitor Susanoo stood at the unknown entrance to the Inquisitorus Headquarters on Korriban, deep within the main temple which served as the centre of the Sith Empire on the planet. To Darth Raze it would look like a normal corridor that led to the rear galley, service quarters and public toilets. A few lowly Sith moved throughout the corridor, none paying Ryujin little attention. He was dressed in the black’s of many other Sith Champions and Acolytes who prowled the Temple. His physical looks however were altered, his hair was a deep strawberry blonde, it was styled into a top knot. The bottom half of his face was covered with a fake prosthetic jaw, scars appeared either side adding to the effect, eyes the typical yellow of those fallen into the Darkness.

Raze was immediately busy as soon as he took up the mantle of Dark Lord. Not only was he now exposed to operations on Exogol, but he was also briefed on other branches of the Empire such as the ISB. While he knew about it already, there were certain branches he hadn’t interacted with just yet. Most of it was a need to know basis, and he had no need nor desire to know any of it prior to his ascension.

He was waiting at the entrance of the headquarters, both surprised and impressed at being contacted by a Sith Champion. Normally Champions and Acolytes were far too spineless to ever seek him out, which suited him just fine. The downside was that it meant most of the order was composed of Sith that were subpar and low quality, a trait that would hopefully change over the coming years.

The Dark Lord kept his gaze trained ahead, watching the others milling about. It took a few moments to realize one of them had approached him but didn’t bother to say anything. The Dark Lord stood in silence, internally amused by the quiet approach. The Inquisitors had a reputation of sorts, and so far he fit that bill.

“I had expected a brief from the Warden,” The Dark Lord stated curtly, but there was no disappointment in his tone. He kept his gaze trained on the acolytes meandering about, “What is your role?”

It was impossible not to notice Darth Raze as he neared the little intersection that led off to the Inquisitorius Headquarters. Not because of his colossal bulk, or the terrifying mask and armour he wore. No it was the feeling of death, destruction, anger, passion, rage every aspect of the Dark Side that he had been taught as an Acolyte to strive for. Flowed off him like a torrent, it filled the air around him with energy. Ryujin couldn’t help but smile, at least with energy like that he wasn’t hiding a secret Jedi background that was forsure.

Ryujin slowly moved up to the man so as to not attract suspicion or appear a threat to the man. He had seen a few Sith get more than a bloody nose by walking directly up to the wrong person. Once noticed Ryujin gave the man a bow of the head that fitted his position as Dark Lord and one of the two ‘trusted’. “Warden Anaris is playing in the West.” Ryujin replied, his modulated voice gave no hint of accent or descent. “I am Inquisitor Susanoo.”

The man was expecting a briefing, that was interesting. Perhaps this was a fortuitous happening, one that the Inquisitor could turn to his advantage. “Please follow me.” He continued before turning away from the Sith Lord back to where he had waited. Behind the spar of one of the wall braces was a small crack in the stone bedrock the Temple was carved into. From a glance it looked no bigger than a handbreadth and half as deep.

Ryujin walked straight towards it, Force Energy began to rapidly expand out from him. Darth Raze would notice that this energy and power not only came from the Inquisitor but the gap itself. A wave of darkness would fall over those who surrounded them, though they would not know unless they were looking for it. Raze and Ryujin would pass from their vision, not truly invisible, if one was searching for the Dark Lord or the Inquisitor they would see them, but to everyone else in all intents and purposes they were.

Ryujin passed through the crack in the wall, his body blending into the stone, a hologram protected by arcane arts of the ancient Sith. On the other side, two men dressed in Inquisitor armour stood with lightsabers drawn. As they spotted him they relaxed slightly. He had only left them a few minutes ago so they recognised him and he had no need to recite passwords and numbers. “I would advise not holding your lightsabers at the man behind me.”

As the Dark Lord entered, he would not find the two men with Lightsabers raised but instead, to heads bowed. “Welcome to the Inquisitorius of Korriban, Mi’Lord Raze.”

Raze observed the trick with the gap in the wall, quietly drinking in sight of the curious bit of Force use. As a lifelong academic, creative and different practices of the Force always fascinated him. Illusions and variations of it were never his strong suit, but he knew the ISB and Inquisitors had to rely on the art extensively. He looked around, vaguely guessing how he and Susanoo had appeared to the others just by the way there was a collective sigh of relief from some.

They stepped through and the Dark Lord gazed at the two with the sabers that promptly bowed their heads. He paid them no heed, looking around to take in sight of the facility. It was different from anything he had encountered before.

“How many bases of operations are there?” He asked, his genuine curiosity and interest bleeding through even with the modulation, “Do your operations extend into Alliance space yet?”

With the alliance he had broached with the Mandos, he wanted to set up more Imperial intelligence amidst their ranks. At the end of the day, Mandalorians were stubborn and stupid. Them lashing out for no particular reason and spitting on the alliance was inevitable. Raze was a man that always kept contingencies in place. Being the ISC President and also the Dark Lord had made him incredibly efficient in covering his tracks and keeping safeguards.

“What kind of jobs does this particular branch take on?”

Stepping past the entrance and the two guards, they entered into a large circular room. It was sparsely decorated with a sigil of the Empire on one wall and that of the Inquisitorius on the other. Eight doors lead off into different directions, two Inquisitors walked through the main room giving neither of the men any attention as they passed. Turning to face the rather lanky Sith Lord he looked up into the mask’s dead eyes. He doubted many looked the Dark Lord in the eye, but he had no reason not to.

Ryujin had been trained since his induction into the Inquisition to fear no man, woman or alien, Sith or Jedi, as it was as likely he would need to slay one as the other. Even if this man was the second most powerful man in the Empire and one of the ‘trusted’, one day he may be deemed unworthy by the Empress if so. It would be Ryujin’s duty to remove the Dark Lord from this plane of existence. “Currently there are five Houses that I am aware of throughout Sith Space.” He replied. “Each house keeps itself as secret as possible and an Inquisitor will only learn of another when he needs to visit it. As far as I am aware we have yet to venture enough into ‘Alliance’ territory to establish a full House there.”

“The Lord Inquisitor of this House or the Imperial Warden will know exactly. However, I doubt it.”
He paused for a moment making sure no one else was within ear shot. Doubt and mistrust was encouraged throughout the Inquisitorius, it kept all honest and on their toes. But still he did not need heat at the moment from either of the two men above him. “Our manpower has been lacking. Lord Stolas spent more on the ISB proper than us, so we have had to make do. Plus too many Sith prefer to run around the galaxy swinging their lightsaber like a hero than do the dirty work of an Inquisitor.” Ryujin replied dryly.

He began leading the Dark Lord through one of the larger doors towards the ‘Grand Files’. “From here we monitor mostly the Sith Core Worlds. Housing mostly Venatores like myself. As such we mostly police the Sith themselves, making sure no power mad Sith gets and wild ideas, or does anything too stupid.”
