THE STYGIAN REACHES
SITE LORE
The Stygian Reaches is a region of space outside the normal Galaxy. Accessed via a hyperspatial guideway between the Maw at one end and Linchpin Station at the other, reaching the Stygian Reaches is a difficult and dangerous undertaking, but for many, a worthwhile one. Having been cut off from travel since the early days of the Old Republic, the Reaches contain wonders not seen by beings from the old Galaxy in tens of thousands of years.
The Stygian Reaches are a strange and mysterious place. Once connected to the old Galaxy, the Reaches were home to human colonists from Xim the Despot's long-lost empire, communities of whom survive today and who have preserved something of their founding culture in the form of the Satrapy of the Frontier Territories. This faction shares the Reaches with another, more mysterious group known as the Eternity, a nominal star republic with a majority Red Sith population, the origins of whom are unclear. These two blocs comprise the largest powers in the Reaches, however that is not to say the region is otherwise empty; countless habitable worlds and intelligent species inhabit the rest of the Reaches, as do at least as many factions...
Of particular note, the Stygian Reaches have - for the most part - only recently emerged from an oppressive, 10,000 year dark age following an event known as the Great Unmaking. This event, aside from putting a distinctive spin on local technology, led to a breakdown of regular communication between many planets, with only a few multi-planet civilizations retaining cohesion. The network of hyperspace beacons which makes travel possible in the Reaches is slowly being rebuilt and reconnected, an undertaking which calls for brave explorers to set out into the unknown, and rediscover what has been lost.
With the re-connection of the Stygian Reaches to the old Galaxy, a new era has begun. Beings from afar may travel to the Reaches, and discover for themselves its many mysteries. The map will be drawn by those with the initiative to explore, and for those willing to brave the transit, high adventure awaits!
