Tavell Hamber

Biography
Tavell was a highly skilled TIE pilot in the closing decade of the Sith Empire. Flying in a squadron led by a Sith warrior and pilot called Darth Irius. Tavell flew regularly under Irius’ command and the two garnered a mutual respect for their piloting skills and the ferocity they displayed in combat. A ferocity that, Irius joked, would have made Hamber a formidable Sith had the pilot displayed any Force sensitivity.

Born on the planet Eriadu, Tavell was a bastard son of agri-workers and made to work in the fields until old enough and trusted enough to use the more expensive machinery, particularly the Crossbow flyer. The Crossbow, a lightweight combination of low density alloys and native timber was a relatively fast and nimble albeit primitive combustion engine powered aircraft used to dust crops and hunt large destructive species of bird that, if left unchecked, would destroy crops in a matter of days. It was sheer luck that an imperial dignitary was passing through in a speeder escort and saw the aerial prowess overhead of the young Hamber and located the boy. Tavell joined the Imperial Cadetship and upon reaching the required age, was fast tracked into the flight academy. Suddenly faced with technologies that not only catered to his skills but allowed them to flourish and exceed his limitations, Tavell was fast in becoming an exceptional pilot. His feelings of duty to the dignitary that, in his eyes, freed him made him an even more exceptional warrior. Driven, loyal, and relentless, Tavell was a fierce and unforgiving warrior who flew under the supervision of Irius.

When the Sith Empire fell, and Tavell’s fighter was shot down and his rank and priveleges expunged, Tavell returned to the only other place he knew and for ten years he flew the now ruinous Crossbow for a handful of credits, enough to buy beer and the company of women. His ego crushed, his pride fallen and his spirit in tatters he sought oblivion.

And then the Empire arose anew.

Now cynical, but tired of the mindless bloodshed he was sought out to join the new iteration of the Empire, under a new Emperor, under a new direction Tavell cleaned himself up and climbed into a TIE again.

Personality
Tavell was once a monster. His remorselessness has been tempered by age, defeat and revelation. He has seen the horrors he committed firsthand and it has left its mark. He hopes this new Empire has learned from the past and seeks to be a peacekeeper in this new Navy rather than the brutal weapon of his past. He is loyal to the idea, to this new Emperor and to the pilots and crew around him. That said, he is dogged, strong willed and honest. To his friends he is affable, grumpy in a lovable way and has their back. To his peers, he can be moody, self righteous and reactionary. To his superiors, some might say, he is their lapdog. A name that some of the younger pilots have adopted as his callsign, in part mockery of his willingness to follow orders and his callsign Hound.

Skills
Tavell is a formidable fighter pilot. His previous years of flying in combat alongside the Sith have honed his skills in a fighter to exceptional degrees. His adherence to orders is seen as restrictive by others but to him it forces a pilot to be creative within the boundaries of the rules, forcing you to think INSIDE the box. More than capable of flying shuttles, dropships and low altitude gunships all dependent on mission parameters, but his love is for the fighter and his fighter of choice is the TIE. As all pilots are, he is trained and experienced in close combat should he fall behind enemy lines and is skilled with a blaster.
