In all fairness, if you're going to go to a country and happily be ignorant of their customs, traditions, law and religion, you deserve an accident to befall you.

On the other hand, this is a prime example of the Sudanese government exploiting the situation for their own gains.

Mohammed is the most common name in Islam, there are even mountains with the name!

It is an example of prejudice against westerners, in the same way that that prejudice exists against Islam in the west.

Except it was the children who decided to name it Mohammad, meaning that they were ignorant of their own customs, traditions, laws and religion. If they're going to send people to jail, shouldn't they send the children to jail for being traitors?

Technically not traitors. And yes, it was their idea, which is why she only got 15 days, and not forty lashes, most likely. And to be fair, I don't know how old these kids were, but I can see them setting her up for a fall. If i perceive a foreigner to be one of the people that are causing massive problems in the region i live, and are persecuting my religion, i'd be happy to see them sent down.

I'd just like to point out that I'm not that horrible a person, i'm just allowing for the possibility.

Again though, she should have been wary of the name Mohammed. It's just wise when dealing with Islam. Common sense, people...

She got off easier than what they could have given her. Still, she's being deported after serving 15 days in their prison. I'd be counting my lucky stars if I were her.

Please no intolerance in this thread. Admittedly, it seems a bit silly to me too, but we have to be acceptant of different people’s beliefs. Too often have I known good people to let themselves down by forgetting that their way of doing things is not always the right way.

I agree. I mean if a guy came to my door and said "We are here representing God and asking you to join us." and I said "I'm an Atheist! You have just insulted my non-religon." I would be the one people would be pissed at.
