Timeline Change Date and FL Applications

Hi everyone. I know you've all been eagerly awaiting this piece of news, so I can now officially tell you that the date of the timeline change will be Sunday, February 21st. So just under two weeks!

This week, we will be undergoing the Faction Leader (FL) application process for the three main factions: the Jedi, the Sith, and the Republic. To give you a bit of background on what those FL character spots will be:

• The Jedi FL will be the Jedi Lord. The Jedi Lord is the leader of the army of Jedi Knights and reports to the Jedi Council, which in our timeline will be an NPC group rather than a playable group. So because the faction as an OOC institution is centered around the Jedi Knights and their army, the Jedi Lord is the FL rather than a Jedi Council member.
• The Sith FL will be the Supreme Leader. They are the ruler of the entire Sith brotherhood, including the Lords of the Sith and the Sacred Band of Ziost. The Supreme Leader can come from either the Lords of the Sith sub-faction or the Sacred Band sub-faction. They are not required to be a Force user.
• The Republic FL role can be filled by either the Chancellor of the Senate or the High Commander of the Border Alliance. This is because the Border Alliance, while part of the Republic, basically does its own thing, so the FL role in the Republic is very much an OOC-based one while the Chancellor and the High Commander continue to do their own thing.

Now that you have a sense of what these roles are, you are invited to apply for one of them! To do so, answer the following questions:

1. Which faction are you applying for?
2. What makes you suited for the role of Faction Leader? Be specific.
3. How well are you at discussing and resolving matters, especially those involving conflicts of interest?
4. Can you work fairly with other factions leaders? Can you organize events with your faction that may not necessarily be victories or net gains?
5. If you became FL, would you have a preference for who your AFLs would be? Who would they be and why?
6. Where would you like to see your faction go in the story? What goals do you personally envision for your faction? How is this different and interesting to what other FLs may offer?
7. Being faction leader means having relative autonomy over your faction, including setting the direction and the story of the timeline with other FLs. What makes you the most qualified person for this role?
8. How much time can you dedicate to the position? Can you ensure that you will be able to consistently organize activity for your faction? Are you willing and able to dedicate the time to drive the story without staff involvement?
9. Do you understand and accept that, by becoming FL, you will be leading the faction that was developed by the think tank, and the staff will be tightly regulating any changes made to how the faction is set up and organized?

Once you've answered those questions, please PM them to me and @Green Ranger for review. The deadline for submission is 11:59pm Eastern Time on Friday, February 12th. We will then decide who the FLs will be by Sunday, February 14th, giving the new FLs a full week to get up to speed on what's been developed for the factions.

If there is only one Leader of the Sith and no council, does that mean our Sith characters may chose to be called Darth whatever. Regardless of rank. Or will that be reserved for those picked by the FL?

Huh the idea of the leader of the Sith not being a FS seems really cool to me. Not 100% on making a Sith, but that could really be a cool story to tell.

Quick question though (and forgive me if this was answered elsewhere), will the writeups be posted a few days prior to the launch? It'd be great to be able to read up on them before we begin.

Are we changing the very core of the Sith? I mean I can't think of a single Sith in canon or Legends that would willingly listen to a non-force-sensitive (Tarken was a close ally of the Emperor and Vader was not exactly willing from what I understand of their relationship). Otherwise I look forward to seeing who is chosen.

I am not to sure about the whole SBZ faction leader thing either, however it seems divided 50/50 with those I've asked. The original post of the SBZ said that these were guys that past the harsh crucible and trials that the Sith set for them... If the SBZ is leading the Sith, then it's the SBZ setting the tests themselves.

I don't know I can't really get my head around it at the moment.

Well, from my understanding the Sith (FS) used to rule the empire and failed (at least in a galactic scale), so it might well be possible that one of their trusted non-FS has taken over running the Empire's day-to-day business, while the Sith (FS) are working to regaining or improve their individual strength. I also see it as quite possible that some Sith could see the non-FS Supreme Leader as a mere puppet for their goals or something. The best reason might probably be that the Sith were to locked in their jealousy with each other and therefore an impromptu Supreme Leader has been selected, until their struggles can be sorted out.

There are multiple ways to go with it, all of which would be fun. Regardless of who it was, a non-FS leader would have a harder time keeping control than a Sith would. But the story potential is fantastic and that's what excites me.

And then there's also this to consider. If a non-FS person did somehow manage to make themselves leader of the Sith, and the Sith actually ended up agreeing with it and respecting them, imagine the kind of person this leader must be, to garner the respect and potential fear required of the Sith for them to follow that person and not just kill them and take their place. That would be the kind of thing that would need to be built up and earned through roleplay, most likely, but it's just one of the many possibilities, each of which excites me quite a lot.

Also, I can't say I'm too fond of the title "Supreme Leader." Something more along the lines of Dark Lord or something would be better, in my opinion. Or, if somehow Kira did manage to find herself as the leader of the faction, High Priestess :P
