Jun could hear the sounds of combat atop the platform. He couldn’t stop to gaze up and wonder how she doing, he had to focus on his task. Jun sent a telekinetic wave to shove the foremost lines of leech and tendril covered monstrosities back. He had to make it to the next eye. He had to destroy it.
—————
The creature’s offensive push was denied by Vanya’s swift reaction. The creature withdrew its tongues and raised a hand to mirror Vanya’s own. It was unaware of the beam of light hidden within her green flames. Instead, the creature poured forth its own flickering grey fires. The two gouts of fire would clash, slamming into one another for a brief moment and stalemating.
Then the beast’s grey flames began to concede ground.
Its single red eye widened in horror, its voice hurriedly picked up pitch and tone. A mere heartbeat before the beam of light collided with the beast, there was a dull thrum that echoed through the chamber. The sound of a string being plucked broke the silence.
—————
The sudden thrum caught Jun off guard, he’d just plunged his hand into the next eye. But when he heard the noise he glanced up, the platform was gone. He realized that he didn’t feel the wet slime of the eye in his hand, just the cool stone of the wall against his fist.
His eyes glanced back at the shambling people, several of them were collapsed in the ground. They were unconscious but alive. They’d done it.
But where was Vanya?
—————
Time had slowed down to a snails pace. The creature was leaning back, the beam of light just beginning to puncture its chest. Then a young Iridonian woman stepped from its back, her pair of burning red eyes matched the single one of the creature. Her face was stoney, she had accepted her fate but somehow she was able to share a few moments of life still.
“This strand of fate was plucked with my final sacrifice, Jed’ai.” She stated calmly. “We cannot kill one another here, so come and bear witness to what I died for.”
There was no real hostility in her voice. It was neutral, spoken as a matter of fact. She had died to share this singular moment, to see what this strand of fate had to offer her. This was the way of her Order.
Wordlessly, her gaze would turn upwards towards the trio of moons above them. The leftmost moon had the shape of an eye burned into its surface. The center moon was covered in something, with closer inspection, distant wriggling could be made out on the surface. The final moon had its crust shattered and red crystalline debris was spread out and caught in a gravitational orbit.
Those moons would align, distort, and then the space they rested in would transform. The scene that played out before her was that of death on a galactic scale. But it played in reverse. She would watch as twisted creatures ravaged worlds and monsters consumed populations. In response, naval forces bombarded afflicted worlds, rendering them void of life.
The scene rolled back to a ritual being conducted. Countless beings combined their might make this moment possible. There was a shimmering veil that pressed inward. A sickening splitting sound echoed from the nothingness and all those in attendance were consumed by a black mist. The sound of flesh being torn and bones being broken clashed with the screams of the unsuspecting. When the cloud cleared a being stood in a newly crafted body, it’s eyes opened to reveal a piercing golden gaze.
Further the scene rolled back.
On the other side of the veil, something whispered in the dark. Its voice carried beyond the line that separated the realm of the Force and their galaxy. It called to those who hunted for power, to those that craved dominance, and to those that simply sought destruction. Its voice was sweet, it acted as a lure to the unsuspecting. But in the darkness of it’s prison a pair of massive golden serpentine eyes opened.
The vision ended, the moons returned to the night’s sky. The Iridonian woman lowered her gaze and returned it to Vanya.
“You must have questions and we have under that beam of light strikes me down.”
