The Rodians flew away and the Human returned to the mine. Tiberius remained behind the bush until he was certain there were no other colonists around. Once he was sure he would not be spotted he swiftly and quietly regrouped with Vayla over by the machinery. They were soon joined by Pêro who had remained in the main hall during the unfolding of events. Tiberius explained to his companions what he had heard.

“Yeah, I’m no expert, but those rodians didn’t exactly seem like upstanding members of society.” Tiberius responded to Vayla’s initial comment about the Rodians being criminals. “It seem like the colonists are getting some kind of compensation for whatever was in those metal crates.” He continued.

Tiberius let out a little chuckle at Vayla’s pun. It seemed like the decision was unanimous, they would need to venture into the mines to find their answers. Pêro was right, though, it was likely that they wouldn’t be received with open arms by the colonists. “Everyone stay on your toes.” The Jedi said looking at his fellow knights.

He directed his attention towards the mines and began to make his way there. He did not follow the direct path that lead straight to the mouth of the mine, however. The path was lit by bright lights and Tiberius didn’t want to risk being seen. Instead he took the long way around, remaining in the shadows to conceal his presence.

Although he did take a longer route, the trek to the mine was not much longer than if he had taken the path. As he reach the mouth of the mine he noticed that it was unguarded. The knight peered into the entrance. There was a long hallway that descended into the mine. There was a dim glow that came from whatever lay down below.

Unanimous, their decision was. Unity is no small thing. So often we take it for granted among each other, even us Jedi, but we need it now more than ever. Easily one to get carried away by her own thoughts, Vayla blinked herself out of a budding daydream and nodded at both her companions.

“Right you are.” Their hosts, such as they were, would indeed be a bit displeased at three Jedi Knights knocking on their front door. No, their backdoor. Their village is now an afterthought. So said Knights would indeed need to stay on their toes if they hoped to keep them. “Together, then.”

As one, the trio of Jedi set off. Tiberius had the right of it, deviating from the main path to keep out of sight. Time, after all, was on their side. At least, it did not seem like these colonists were in any rush to leave.

In fact, they did not expect anyone to visit them anytime soon. That explains the lack of guards. Though, the naked eye is deceptive. What lies in the maw beyond the mouth? Vayla found herself hugging the wall just outside the entrance, closing her eyes.

It would be obvious to her companions what she was doing, and they just might join in for a threefold cord. There might not have been guards at the immediate entrance of the mines but plugging a pair of sentries a little way in was logical.

Vayla, however, sensed nothing as she saw with the Force. A kind of three-dimensional map behind her eyes painted twists and turns for tunnels just ahead, with the odd crate and equipment here and there, but if there were souls then they were deeper down.

“We seem to be in for a trek. These mines are a bit of a labyrinth and, naturally, dimly lit.” Fortunately, beyond the brightness of her lightsaber, this Jedi Knight came equipped with a flashlight. So underrated. "Shall we?"

Even with the other two Jedi believing that these colonists were dealing with criminals, Pêro still felt unsure about this line of thought. While these people could be making deals with these unsavory types, the G’weneen would not call them as criminals because of it. At least, not yet. He would investigate more before coming to this conclusion. This could be happening because of their desperation to survive.

Once all of them agreed to investigate the mines, the Jedi started to walk toward it. “If they show some hostility toward us, I think that we should not retaliate with too much strength. We know that they are dealing with criminals, but we don't know the reasons behind it. Desperation can be a terrible councilor.” having spent some years of his childhood in a poor community on G’wenee, Pêro had seen how desperate people were pushed to make things that they would come to regret later.

Moving carefully through the village, the three Jedi would reach the area of the mines. As expected, they didn’t see anyone while they walked. If it wasn’t for the scene that they had seen early, Pêro could say that this village was completely abandoned.

Didn’t take much time for them to reach the mines. Tiberius was the first one to approach one of the entrances. While he looked inside it, Pêro noticed that there were several marks on the ground. They showed the constant movement of several individuals entering and leaving this place.

There is something happening inside it. Several individuals were constantly passing through this entrance.” Pêro said, pointing to the marks on the floor. After Vayla used the Force to search through the mine and said that they should enter it, the G’wenee nodded. “Let’s go, but we still need to be careful to not make them see that we are coming.

“Agreed.” Tiberius said in response to Pêro comment about not using too much force against the colonists. His fellow knight was right, it was not the Jedi way to kill unless necessary, such as when an enemy was too dangerous to be kept alive. However, that might be easier said than done if the colonists were armed with the blasters that they had found earlier.

He nodded with surprise as Vayla pulled out a flash light. He was impressed that she came so prepare. Tiberius on the other had did not come quite as prepared. The knight looked down at the marks on the ground that had been pointed out by the observant Pêro. “You think it might be patrols?” Tiberius asked squatting down to examine the markings on the stone ground.

Tiberius gaze moved from the entrance floor back into the mines. What awaited the trio in the dimly lit depths of this labyrinth? Would the Colonists be hostile towards them if/when they encountered them. What were they supposed to do when they found the colonists if they had resorted to crime?

Tiberius stood up still peering into the mine. He looked at his companions. “Ladies first.” He said with a joking bow and a gesture of his hands for Vayla to enter. He did this, not because he was fearful of what may lay beyond the entrance, but because of the three Jedi she seemed to be the only one equipped to cut through the darkness. Sure they had the force, but it was less draining to use a flashlight.

At the mention of patrols being responsible for the foot traffic, Vayla shrugged a shoulder. “Perhaps. Could just as easily be routine walker movements like we just witnessed with those Rodians.” Those Rodians had been armed. Our colonists surely are too.

Vayla hoped that they would not have to be dealt with violently. Whatever evidence was stacking up against these wayward miners it wasn’t yet enough, and the benefit of the doubt truly was owed to them.

Had they simply had enough of an uncaring corporation? Did they get involved in something that made them panic and retreat to the mines? Whatever the case, the Jedi were here to investigate and resolve, and no utility belt could stand in for the tools of a Jedi’s own mind.

Of which, the flashlight really was just a standard issue component of Vayla’s utility belt, though perhaps that kind of preparation was itself underrated. She did not switch it on just yet while offering Tiberius a smile.

“Such a gentleman.” Light shining on the walls would give their approach away, however, so for now they should rely on the interior lighting; dim but bright enough to move. “If there are patrols further along then they might mistake our advance as another one—or take it for intruders.”

The Jedi passed mine cart after mine cart, this one empty and that one filled with rocks, but no precious minerals. Makes sense. Would not leave those exposed.

“Junction ahead.” The main tunnel forked off into three separate tunnels. Cautiously, Vayla shined her torch toward just the opening ground of each. As expected, one avenue looked the same as the other. “Where to?”

[justify ]”Both can be correct. What we saw early in the village shows that this mine is being used, the movement of people coming from it can be constant.” Pêro said, while looking at the tracks. The opinions of the two other Jedi were plausible. “If what is being extracted from there is something very valuable, I believe that there are great chances of a patrol going around to protect it. We need to be careful.

Pêro raised an eyebrow when Tiberius said that Vayla should go first. While she had the flashlight to illuminate their path, the Pantoran would also be the first to face any danger that approached them. While he was certain that Tiberius was really being a gentleman, the way that he said it sounded as if he wanted to protect himself behind Vayla in the case of an attack.

Anyway, Vayla was the first to enter the mine, using her flashlight to illuminate their path. Pêro followed her through the tunnel, paying close attention to their surroundings. The place wasn’t so different from any other mine, with several carts laying in the place. Unfortunately, the ones that weren’t empty were only filled with rocks. There weren't any clues for what the miners were exploring.

Then, the three Jedi arrived at a junction where the main tunnel forked on three. “Well, we can split, with each one going to explore one of the tunnels. Or...” he crouched, while looking to the ground. “We can explore the one in the middle. It’s the one with the most tracks. It means that it’s the one being used more often.

Tiberius followed his companions into the mines. Tiberius hadn’t spent a whole lot of time in mines, but it looked about like what he expected it would. The walls were cold stone, the floor was cold stone, the ceiling, you guessed it, cold stone. Initially, the tunnel making the mine was wide and tall, but it gradually got narrower. There were several mine carts that the group came across. Some were empty and some filled with rocks. Tiberius stopped an examined on of the rock, but it was nothing special. He put it back and continued on his way.

It wasn’t pitch black yet. The tunnels were very dimly lit, enough light to make your way around. They came to the fork in the road. Vayla shined a light and each of the entrances, and Pêro noted that the center one was the most used. Tiberius weighed their options in his mind. There was of course safety in numbers, but splitting up might lead them to more clues on what was going on.

“It’s probably best to stick together. Suppose we should take the middle one then? What do you guys think?” He looked at his comrades for their thoughts. If the colonists were as well armed as he thought it could be bad news if they came across a single Jedi

Vayla considered the options at hand. Three tunnels, three Jedi. They were Knights, no less, and each one was likely worth about ten colonists in terms of combat. Yet, these are not our mines, this is not our turf. The miners had mapped these mines out like the back of their hand.

“Knight Fenric is on the right track,” Vayla nodded. “And Knight Erval has found that track. Let the three of us go as one.”

She didn’t wait beyond those words but everyone seemed to be in agreement already. Stepping forth, Vayla kept her flashlight out but kept it low, even covering a portion of it with her hand. The light had grown dimmer and dimmer until all but darkness lay ahead.

“I sense…life.” If she could feel it then her companions surely could too. “Meters ahead. A chamber…” She remembered their conversation from before. “...Or a patrol.”

The feeling intensified as the Jedi trio traveled onward. There was a metallic echo across the rock just then, and another, but Vayla could not discern if it was machinery or a handheld tool. In the dark...a machine, surely?

If we don’t find anything in the end of this tunnel, we can return and search in the others two.” Perô said. Although he was nearly certain that their answers would be at the end of this tunnel, they should be prepared in the case of finding nothing. “And even if we find something, perhaps we should search there too. Who knows if there isn’t anything being hidden there?

Once the three agreed to explore the tunnel in the middle, Vayla stepped forth. Pêro noticed the way that she was holding her flashlight. It was low in the ground and her hand was partially blocking the light. It was a clever idea, this way the people would not see them arriving.

For some time they walked through the tunnel, there wasn’t anything different there. Pêro saw more carts with rocks, but nothing that could be considered special. Perhaps they really had chosen the wrong tunnel. The G’weneen was starting to believe that the tracks that he found could be old.

However, Vayla completely blocked the light of his flashlight and said that she had felt life ahead. Instinctively, Perô brought his hand to the hilt of his lightsaber. If it was really a patrol, they would need to defend themselves, without hurting the villagers. “I can hear the sound of something coming from deep in this tunnel.” he whispered. The sound seemed to be coming from some type of machine. “We need to continue, but carefully. There can be a trap.

Tiberius nodded. “We should definitely check down these other tunnels after we find out what’s at the end of this one.” Pero was right, there could be something important down one of the other tunnels, but right now they weren’t an a big rush.

Tiberius pushed on with his fellow Jedi. They seemed walked a fair distance before Vayla sensed life. Tiberius felt it as well. It was not far ahead of the trio. Then came the metallic noise accompanied by a low rumble.

Tiberius advanced slowly, being mindful of any traps that might lay ahead of them. Peering around the corner Tiberius saw a large open cavern and was dimly lit by lights that hung on the walls of the mine. There was scaffolding with three different stories, and what appeared to be watch towers. Atop these towers and on the highest levels of the scaffolding there were individuals armed with blaster similar to the ones that they had found previously.

On the lower levels Tiberius was able to spot individuals who appeared to be a little unkempt compared to the others. These unkempt individuals seemed to be mining, some with hand tools and some with handheld mining drills, which explained the sound of machinery.

It seemed to Tiberius that the colonists had enslaved other colonists and were now using them as slave labor. The knight ducked back behind the corner and relayed the information to his companions.

Down in the hole in the caves below, the hole grew ever deeper, the latter being none other than the mystery that had befallen these colonists. Who seem to have fallen upon one another. What were they doing exploiting each other to toil for their mines?

Keeping out of sight, Vayla had to see the scene for herself. She trusted Tiberius’ words but just as much wanted to map out a visual of the cavernous chamber for the inevitable that awaited the three Jedi.

Bare light. Three stories on scaffolds. Towers. Armed guards. She had a good idea where their blasters came from. Indentured miners. She squinted at a few. Ah. That explains it.

Rejoining her two companions, Vayla searched their gazes. As ever, they needed to be a united front for whatever they needed to do next.

“Three of those miners are in uniform. Unless I’m blind, their outfits are corporate. Lennix, I’m guessing.”
She further guessed her companions could guess what that meant but voiced it aloud anyway. “Those miners might never have been playing on the same team to begin with. A security detail repurposed as prisoners, perhaps?” She shrugged.

“Whatever is going on here, however desperate these colonists are, they have not abandoned their operations. Which further begs the question…” Vayla searched her silent flashlight as though it held the answer. “...Who sent the distress beacon...and why?”

After Tiberius told them what he had seen, the G’weneen became surprised. If Pêro thought that the situation couldn’t become more strange, he was totally wrong. Some way, the colonists were slaving each other to work on this mine. While it gave an answer to what happened with them, now new questions were rising.

Differently of Vayla, Pêro decided to not go see what was happening with his own eyes. While he waited for the return of the Pantoran, the Knight thought about what they could do in this situation. They needed to free the enslaved individuals, but at the same time they would need to neutralize the other colonists.

For the G’weneen, if they came to the point of enslaving their equals, these colonists were criminals like the Zygherrians and other great slavers. These individuals needed to be stopped immediately, not mattering if they did it because of the despair. There was no justification for slavery.

His musings were interrupted by Vayla’s return. Pêro paid close attention to the description of the observations that she made. The slaves were works of the Lennix, this made the situation even more bizarre.

Then, a thought crossed Pêro’s mind. “Do you think that the colonists could have slaved the Lennix’s workers that remained on the planet? If they were really part of the security team, it would explain why we found several blasters.” however, it still didn’t explain who sent the distress signal or why the colonists remained on this planet to use the mines. These mysteries still remain.

The trio sat in the dimly lit mining tunnel weighing the implications of what lay around the corner. Vayla was right, it was clear that mining operations were still going on. Vayla had caught the detail that Tiberius had not. Several of the miners were wearing corporate uniforms.

Tiberius was trying to piece things together in his mind. Lennix employees working as miners. Criminals at the landing pad buying the mining product. Perhaps it had been a mutiny of sorts. Maybe the colonists had taken control and found a buyer for whatever they were mining down here.

Pêro was able to get his thoughts together before Tiberius and said almost exactly what Tiberius was thinking. The Jedi knight nodded in agreement. “Regardless of what’s going on here we have to do something about it.” Tiberius’ gaze passed between his two companions.

Tiberius thought for a moment about what options the Jedi had. A frontal assault could be dangerous and the commotion could alert guards in other parts of the mines. A sneak attack would be ideal, but maintaining stealth with the vantage points that the guards had would be difficult.

Tiberius wrap his fingers around the cylindrical hilt of his lightsaber and removed it from his belt where it had been secured, but he did not ignite it just yet. Again, Tiberius looked at his fellow Jedi. “From what I saw there were only a handful of guards. I think the three of us can handle them. What do you guys think?”

Once again, Vayla was glad that everyone appeared to be on the same page, including why those Lennix workers might now be working for the colonists as their own miners, and apparently without pay. However, as bad as it was, there were worse things in this galaxy than slavery, and such was probably just a piece in a bigger puzzle.

“Right you are,” Vayla acknowledged the unanimous assessment of the situation. “Both of you.” And that something had to be done to both get to the bottom of it and put an end to it. Tiberius’ lightsaber hilt came out. Vayla mimicked the motion, trading her flashlight for her own.

“I think it’s too risky to go for a diplomatic approach, at any rate. Something tells me we won’t be politely turned away and will have ruined the element of surprise in the process.”

She knew there might be a counterpoint to that but moved on for now, stealing another look at the chamber. “We could use all that machinery to our advantage. We’ve got the Force; we could sabotage equipment, walker units, create some chaos while keeping in the shadows.” Shadows. The only time the dark allies with the light.

"Knight Erval?" He would either agree or offer further input before it was time to move on once again.

After Tiberius spoke, Pêro nodded in agreement. It was obvious that they needed to do something to stop what was happening there. They couldn't leave these people being enslaved by colonists, even if it only happened because they were desperate enough to do something like that. It still was a crime.

The G’weneen heard the plans that Vayla and Tiberius proposed, reflecting on their chances of success. While the man wanted to act immediately and attack the guards, the Pantoran wanted to be furtive and sabotage their equipment to create chaos. While both plans were very different from each other, Pêro needed to admit that both could work.

By following Tiberius’ plan, they would be able to free the slaves faster. However, it also opened the possibility of the criminals using the victims as shields against the Jedi’s attack. On the other hand, by following Vayla’s plan they would take more time before being able to free them, but it had less chance of the captives being threatened during it.

When Vayla asked his opinion, Pêro already had decided who he was going to support. “I think that we should follow your plan.” he said, looking at the Pantoran. “While it would take more time for us to free the slaves, there is less chance of them getting hurt during it.” then he turned to Tiberius. “Perhaps if the opportunity appears, we can bring down some guards during the chaos.

It looked like he was out numbered on this one. Both his companions opted for a more stealthy approach. There was nothing wrong with this plan. He agreed with Pêro’s take on the situation. A frontal assault could result in more harm coming to the prisoners. However, Tiberius believed that they had the element of surprise on their side. Regardless, The jedi knight would defer to the judgement of his friends.

“It’s decided then. We’ll stick to the shadows.” The knight said acknowledging the group’s plan. Looking back into the chamber Tiberius tried to get one last lay of the land. This time in addition to the scaffolding and the beings that were working in the mines Tiberius spotted a large vehicle with a large drill mounted on the front at the far end of the cavern. There was also a conveyor belt that seemed to be used to transport whatever it was that was being mined down here. There were also unmanned walkers lined up along the rock wall. There may have been more but Tiberius was trying to stay out of sight for now.

The knight looked back at his companions. “Shall we get to work, then?” He turned back around and silently crept into the cavernous room doing his best to hide behind rocks, crates, machinery, anything to conceal himself from being seen.

Tiberius hid behind a large rock for what seemed like an eternity as he waited for a passing patrol to go by. In reality it was only about 5 minutes that he was waiting behind the rock. While in hiding from the passing patrol he over hear the conversation of two of the guards.

"This is my last day on this shift."

"Oh yeah, where you moving?"

"Sector 7 had an opening, so I applied."

"Not bad, should be a quiet last day."

Eventually he made it over to the vehicle mounted drill. He made his way behind the vehicle to hide from any eyes that may see him and then crawled under the vehicle. He ignited his lightsaber and severed the tracks that would allow the vehicle to become mobile. He didn’t know what the other two Jedi were up to, but he assumed they were doing something similar.

Vayla followed suit behind Tiberius, using the environment to conceal herself in much the same fashion. However, she deviated from his same path, putting some space between them as she headed toward a different way.

The lighting wasn’t great in this cavernous chamber, typically so perhaps, but enough to light the way and for everyone to get their job done. Everyone amounted to anyone was not a Jedi, while everyone else was just so. And we don’t need the light to see. The light sees for us.

On her side of the room, Vayla found the primary generator. It hummed an endless, tuneless song, keeping the lights running. “Eyes up, Knights,” she whispered into her comlink. “Chaos, yet harmony.”

Perhaps the best way to commit to violence and incapacitate these colonists was to catch them blindsided. So, manipulating equipment with more than just one hand, Vayla cut the generator off and watched the room grow even darker. Become the light. Be the shadow.

With Tiberius' agreement, the Jedi had settled with their plan. They were going to use a stealth approach and then cause some sabotage. Pêro was satisfied that Tiberius was convinced to follow this plan without any arguing. This was the best course of action, bring down the criminals while the slaves would remain safe.

Pêro only nodded when the other man said that they should start work. The G’weneen watched his fellow Jedi start to move. While Tiberius moved toward one direction, Vayla went toward another one. Both of them stealthily moved, being careful to not be seen and to not make any sound that could alert the criminals about their presence.

Without thinking twice, the G’weneen followed them. Like his fellow Jedi, Pêro also decided to move in another direction. In his mind, if the three cover different parts of the cave, they would be able to make a more widespread chaos. The guards would probably be confused enough, giving the three Knights enough time to act.

After walking carefully to not be seen, Pêro stopped behind a pile of large crates. Next to it there was some type of vehicle that was used to transport machines and other heavy things. Some guards stayed in front of it, looking at the slaves. While he looked at them and the vehicle, an idea started to brew in his mind. He would only need to wait for the right time.

Then, Pêro received Vayla’s message through the commlink. The lights went off, making the place even darker than what he thought was possible. The guards that were in front of the vehicle entered in panic and using their distraction, the Knight entered and started to pilot the machine. Now the chaos would begin.

The lights went out. Tiberius was almost certain that he heard a scream come from one of the guards. The mines were pitch black, you couldn’t even see the hand in front of your face. Tiberius closed his eyes and used the force to see his way around. The cavern was starting to be illuminated again though. Beams of light shot from flashlights that the guards had. Still it would be hard for them to see much more that what was in front of them.

A patrol began to pass by the vehicle that Tiberius had disabled. “Let’s get to the generators. We gotta get the lights back on.” He heard them say. Tiberius slide out from under the vehicle and followed the patrol for a short distance. Sneaking up behind them Tiberius waved his hands behind each man’s head using Morichro and causing the two patrolmen of pass out and hit the ground with a thud. Their flashlights rolled away from their unconscious bodies. The knight sprinted over and turned off the flashlights.

Tiberius now made his way over to the watch tower, which was actually just made from scaffolding with a ladder that led to the top. With a quick flash Tiberius ignited his lightsaber and cut the supports for the tower. Just as quickly he deactivated his lightsaber so as not to give his position away in the dark. There was a loud creaking noise as the tower began to topple over.

There couldn’t be too many guards left. Now Tiberius turned his attention to the prisoners. He began going to those he could find and began releasing them from their bonds. “I’m here to help.” He would tell them, reassuring them that he was not going to harm them. “You’re free now.” “Thank you!” was the reply that he got most of the time often in a panicked tone. However, one of the prisoners told the knight “There are more of us. They keep us locked in cages. Where the path has three forks the path to the left will lead you to where the rest of us are being kept." Although the prisoner could not see Tiberius in the dark the knight nodded in acknowledgement of this information.

“There are more of these prisoners in another area of the mines.” Tiberius spoke into his commlink. “I’m going to go try and free them in you guys want to move on.” Without waiting for an answer Tiberius made his way back to the fork that the three jedi had come across earlier and headed down the path to the left.

After going down a little ways Tiberius made it to the room where the rest of the prisoners were being kept there were two guards stationed outside the door leading into the room. They caught sight of Tiberius and raised their blasters. Tiberius used the force to pull one of the blasters out of the guard’s hands. The other Guard fired off a couple shots which Tiberius deflected with his light saber. One of the blaster bolt flew back and struck the guard in the thigh and he fell to the ground grabbing his leg.

The knight pointed his lightsaber at the uninjured guard. “Grab your buddy and l get inside.” The guard grabbed his injured friend and they both entered into the room where the prisoners were being kept. “Do you have keys to the cells?” Tiberius asked the guard. He nodded and pulled out a key card. “Unlock the cells” Tiberius flicked his lightsaber between the guard with the key and the nearest cell where the prisoners were being kept. The guard let his injured friend down and headed over to the cells and began to unlock them one by one.

The prisoners began filing out. “Alright you two.” Tiberius addressed the guards again. “Give me the key and get in the cell.” The guard handed Tiberius the key and grabbed his friend. The two guards went into the cell and Tiberius locked it behind him.

Tiberius was able to catch one of the last prisoners before they were able to leave the chamber where they were being held. “What happened here? What’s going on?” The prisoner looked at Tiberius. “When the Lennix company told us they were pulling out the Governor of the colony organized an mutiny and took over. He enslaved the Lennix employees and any of us colonist who didn’t agree with his plan. Now he’s acting like a big bad crime boss. Before all the colonists were rounded up one of us was able to send out a distress beacon, which obviously worked if you’re here.”

“I see.” Tiberius began his response. “Thank you. Now get out of here.” The prisoner exited the chamber, following the stragglers who were also escaping.

Primary generator down, it would take a feat of time and labor to restore it to power. There were always secondary backup generators, however, and it appeared that the opposition was rushing toward them.

That made sense. The guards’ flashlights would serve them only so much and everyone knew it. So, Vayla held ground, remaining by the main generator and waiting for her enemy to come to her. In whatever form, the Jedi reminded herself. It was easy to call one’s opponent your outright enemy but she had no mind to kill anyone today.

They came. “Get it back up!” A guard commanded the others. “Find whoever did this and put a bolt in their head!” That settled that. Be the shadow. Vayla remained without murder as she became the light.

Emerging from behind a container, the Jedi Shadow focused the Force toward a singular point in space and let loose. A burst of bright light encased the immediate area, triply so amid the darkness, blinding every eye caught in its grasp.

The blinding light extended further to the area around, making much of the opposition do more than squint, and by then Vayla was already upon them. Instantly, she bounced between this colonist and that one, incapacitating high and low, and moved onto the next.

She received Tiberius’ message just in time. “Right behind you. Don’t wait.” Vayla knew that Tiberius would not as she moved on. She was about to follow her partner to the prisoners when she caught sight of a figure in flight.

That one took a separate path as the Shadow converged. The Force aiding her speed, she just as much jutted her hand and curled her fingers, pulling the male Human toward herself. The latter was halted in the corridor just as a hand wrapped around his throat.

“And you are?” Vayla demanded, her prosthetic blue eyes glowing like an electric hell.

“C-C-C-assava,” the man struggled. “I…am…the…GOVERNOR!”

That was fortunate. Chance or fate had ensured that both individuals would cross paths right then and there. Right then and there, Governor Cassava pulled a pistol from his hip and jabbed the muzzle into the Jedi’s gut. He squeezed the trigger.

A blaster bolt echoed across the rock. It struck only stone. Vayla had pushed the pistol aside with one hand and squeezed her other just a little tighter. The man was choking in her grip. “P-Please,” the word barely escaped his throat. “D-Don’t!”

The Shadow curled her fingers in, narrowed her gaze, those artificial eyes that she called her own burrowing into his. This is not the way. She released him. He fell to the floor, gasping for air.

“Knights,” Vayla broadcasted over comm. “I have found the ringleader. Let’s wrap this up.”
