Before the guards that were in front of him could move away, Pêro made the machine move directly toward them. It would collide against them, but the Knight would stop it before this could pass over the two. Jumping out of it, the G’weneen approached the guards.

Once certifying that they were still alive, Pêro went to help his fellow Jedi free the slaves. The Knight started to walk around the place trying to find where they could be held. Then, he heard some screams and after following it, the G’weneen had found some people imprisoned inside a metal cage. “Don’t fear, I’m going to free you all.

However, before he could do it, a flashlight illuminated his back. He quickly turned in time to see that some guards had found him and were ponting their blasters at him. Pêro used the Force to enhance his agility, in time to escape from the bolts that were fired at him. He summoned his lightsaber to his hand and started to deflect it.

Using the Force, Pêro yanked the blaster from the guards hands. While they flew toward him, the Knight used his lightsaber to cut them in half. As they were unarmed, the guards tried to run away. However, the G’weneen used the Force to push them against a rock. The criminals fell unconscious on the ground.

Turning back to the cage, Pêro used his lightsaber to cut the chains that were holding the door closed. As soon as they saw that they were free, the people ran from it. There were only four individuals there, but they were talking and crying so much that it seemed to be much more.

Please, you need to stay silent or more of them will come.” he Knight tried to calm them down, but they continued to cry and thank him. Then, his commlink alerted him that a message had arrived. He picked it and heard Vayla saying that she had captured the Governor. A rare smile appeared on his lips and he turned to the ex-slaves. “Follow me. We are going out of this place.

Tiberius made his way back to the main passage to make his way back to the other Jedi. When he got to the main passage, though it was filled with captives that were filing out of the mines and making their way out into the cool night air.

He heard Vayla’s voice come over the commlink. She informed the two men that she had captured the ringleader of this operation. It seemed that their work here was coming to an end. Tiberius replied over the commlink, “Let’s round up any stragglers.”

Entering into the main chamber Tiberius was able to detain several of the rogue colonists. He led a group of about ten out of the mines. Upon exiting the mines it looked like someone had already alerted the authorities. There were several ships that now inhabited the previously deserted landing pad outside of the mines.

There were also Lennix employees who appeared freshly arrived. No doubt here to recover what was taken from them. Several officers were taking statements from the former prisoners. Tiberius was approached by one officer who asked about his involvement in everything. The knight told him how the Jedi had received a distress signal and how they had come to investigate and what they found. It seemed like the only thing left for Tiberius was to reunite with his companions so they could all leave together.

Governor Cassava had proven to be a poor leader, both before and after the tragedy that had befallen the colony. He pushed for freedom, pleaded for rights, was not quite corrupt but no less a coward.

When Lennix did more than threaten to pull out of the mining operations, Cassava did more than threaten to retaliate. He led his colonists into the mines where they had holed up. That wasn’t enough; they appealed to less than legitimate elements to sell their findings.

This and more, all confessed under guilt instead of duress. Brave enough to admit when wrong and defeated, at least. Vayla would give him that as she watched the handcuffs tighten around his wrists.

She turned to her two companions, her fellow Knights, and each one was as brave as any Jedi ought to be. “It happens, I guess,” she spoke musingly. “We came here to save these colonists. Personally, I figured pirates might have been plaguing them…”

Her thoughts drifted into the wind, a breeze tickling her hair against her face as she gazed between the sky and the ground, watching the horizon that bridged them beside corporates and colonists and everyone and everything in between.

“Maybe we did save them after all—from themselves.” She shrugged it off. “Well, mission accomplished, gentlemen. I’m ready to disembark when you are.”

The debriefing at an end, Vayla turned to head back to the ship, thinking all the while about what is right and just, about slavery in more than one form, and how effective the Jedi Order was in doing anything about any of it come the end.
